Replacing a cashier is easier than the BoH people, because it's just going to be tied to the same ordering system as the POS. Doesn't eliminate the workforce.

Here in Canada they're already a reality.

I went to a McDonalds and there were like 8 of these things infront of the till. You punch in your order, pay by debit/credit or cash, and receive a receipt as proof that it's your order.

Some staff still make the things, but it looked almost dead in the back - like half of what a regular McDonalds used to be.

The manager was even walking around asking us if we had any problems with the kiosks.

It's funny because they are not only rolling them out in states with high wage, but also states with low wage.

At this point, not only do you need to accept not getting a raise to keep your job, you need to take a pay cut,

one step closer to basic income

>mfw we tried to warn them and they didn't listen

I remember my McDonalds had them in like 2005, and then they were removed. No idea why, the technology isn't new or revolutionary.

that's fucking awesome

I don't go to fast food places because I live in Atlanta and it's always dumb nigger bitches behind the counter. I'd much rather deal with a machine that can't screw my order up or spit in my food because fuck whitey.

It's cheaper and more efficient now. That's the important part, that it's profitable.

Yes but now the company doesn't have to pay the front of house people so paying the back more doesn't hurt.

Yes, yes. More automation. Slowly we will achieve the capitalist dream of maximum profits and almost no wages. And let most of the population die out since they are useless. Perfect!

>so paying the back more doesn't hurt

ahahahahahaha

I work for a credit card company (merchant services) and the cost of those POS systems ten years ago was insane.

Just maintenance contracts (18months) for servicing them would be like 2-3x the initial price of the units. That number now is exponentially less.

Sounds lovely. I hope they add these to drive thru as well.

Like mentions, cutting the wages of a few FoH people should help pay for the machine and its upkeep. But like I mentioned, it's not like it's some magic machine, it's just a modified PoS for customers to use.

BAN ASSAULT KIOSKS

Does a machine make the burgers too? That would be real progress, you go in the shop and there are no humans working there.

Hopefully they make a strong comeback, that and mobile ordering. Mobile ordering is even better because your shit should just be done by the time you arrive, assuming you've time it correctly.

well it was only a matter of time, not so much wages. dont tell me the difference between kiosk and people is $2/hr. it was going to happen.

that said, i really wish the backroom people were replaced instead of the cashier. i trust a machine with my food

There were like 5 total staff in the back, with the manager walking around.

3 of which were on the drive thru tills and shit.

There would have literally been 2-3 people working there if the drive-thru was automated. And this was at rush hour.

>basic income
>providing unlimited resources to a population without any negative feedback mechanism being sustainable in any way

No. This is a sign that people need to get out there and innovate. Offer exceptional service that a machine can't.

People crave attention and personal interaction - even if it is 30 seconds at a store. Any business that caters to customer service will find success.

Giving people money for nothing always ends in disaster.

Those who don't work, don't eat.

oi vey the automobile is going to destroy my carriage business, capitalist bastids!

too bad faggots like you will take forever to order and hold up the line

People are used to tough screen technology because of iPad, PayWave technology makes the whole card payment system cheaper.

>unlimited resources

?

Learn to build roads.

It's coming lad

Carriages got better grass mileage back in the day.

>haw haw we'll just take all the jerbs away an' let everyone starve! Wot could go wrong?

budum tsk

japan is way ahead of you faggots

Where were you when 1970 nipland absolutely btfo Westerners

I'll be laughing when it's your job that gets replaced.
>b-b-b-but I can't be replaced, m-muh STEM degree!
Keep believing that, lol. Computer AI is developing at an exponential rate.
>n-n-not true! AI is just s-science fiction!
Sure. How's that captcha treating you?

This is how the terminators in reality begin.
>automated robots made to run service industry
>go absolutely insane after having to deal with niggers day in and day out
>go on a rampage leaving a trail of carnage, blood and happy meal toys.

Fuck jewtube embedding just go to 17:40

If the poor people don't have jobs, why don't they just live on their capital gains income?

It'll be like walking into an Automat, except there won't even be people behind the machines.

>Keep believing that, lol. Computer AI is developing at an exponential rate.

I actually work in the technology field, user. Sure, it can replace shoddy customer service jobs such as macdonalds, but we aren't going to see anything close to automation replacing serious jobs within our lifetime

nice

>Neolibs suppress wages for decades
>People finally demand this be fixed
>Corperations respond by cutting employees
>"Haha! THis is a good thing! I love when the poor get poorer and the rich get richer!"
I don't get this mentality, what are you, fucking retarded?

You say that, but J. Robert Oppenheimer employed 400 women to do mathematical calculations for him while developing nuclear technology. Most universities had similar rosters. It was a good steady job for people who knew calculus.

Where are those jobs?

Yeah, sure. Important jobs are never going to be replaced, like surgeons, right?

Ooohhh wait. Surgeries that once took 36 hours to complete with a team of dozens of surgeons, nurses, and surgical techs, with a recovery time of days to weeks in the hospital can NOW be done by a team of 2-3 surgeons in an hour or two as an outpatient procedure, thanks to robitcally assisted, minimally invasive procedures.

That's dozens of medically trained professionals that just got replaced by a robot. You still don't think it's possible?

Keep living in your bubble, chump.

Are you stupid or trolling, I can't tell.

the insecurity here is a little rank

Capitalist glorifies in destruction of workers.

Then wonders where all the consumers are.

Carriage drivers just got jobs as taxi drivers. No one lost their job. What are order takers doing instead?

See, the difference between a carriage being replaced by an automobile, and an order taker being replaced by a computer, is that the automobile still needs a human driver.

What you should be asking, is what happened to all the horses when their labor wasn't needed anymore?

>Does a machine make the burgers too?
They already have a machine that could make pizza.

youtube.com/watch?v=Pyrav_9Pbsc

And yes, "burger machines" already exist too. It's just a matter of figuring out the most cost-effective design to maximize profit. In fact, those machines already exists.

They also have self-checkout counters in grocery stores, and there are plans to implement this in department stores. So working as a cashier for retail stores like Whole Foods and Hot Topic would be gone, eventually. A store who got rid of 10 cashiers would only need to hire around 5 or so Loss Prevention associates, part time.

In short, many fast food and retail jobs would disappear.

This is the future the libshits chose. Hopefully, they got a useful degree, because their fallback careers as fast food workers and retail store associates would be gone.
>Gender/Diversity Studies BTFO
>Humanities/Liberal Arts majors BTFO
>non-STEM degrees BTFO

We'd be seeing more libshits getting on welfare, and if Trump wins...

>400 bugers per hour
FUGGG

>See, the difference between a carriage being replaced by an automobile, and an order taker being replaced by a computer, is that the automobile still needs a human driver.

Not for very long.

So you're telling me liberals are enabling the future of automation and innovation? Why is that a bad thing?

You have the right idea :^)
Were already way ahead of ya
t. grad student at johns hopkins

i just want a big-boy easy bake oven.

>Serious jobs

Except for manufacturing, transportation, banking/finance, farming, mining, or construction.

>Why is that a bad thing?
Did I ever say it was a bad thing to completely disenfranchise libshits by letting them destroy their financial future and turning a bunch of their own into the next generation of hobos and gutter corpses?

Come now.

I hear the kiosks are really cool. You can design your own burger with them. Can anyone confirm this?

dont forget law

I don't think you understand. Technology and automation is going to advance whether or not the minimum wage gets increased. Jobs are going to be replaced. This is an objective fact.

The difference is that liberals want to set up a social framework for a post-scarcity economy where the majority of jobs are automated, and conservatives just think half the population should starve to death.

>but we aren't going to see anything close to automation replacing serious jobs within our lifetime

I guess that depends on your definition of serious jobs.
One of the easiest jobs to automate are those found in the transportation industry, arguably easier than automating a McDonalds at this point. This is a huge source of middle income jobs we're talking about, this means there's even more of an incentive to automate the entire thing.
Once transportation and the medical fields become automated you're never going to have lower than 20% unemployment in the US again.

If the poor people can't afford kids why do they keep having them?

lol @ conservacucks

How backwards must your worldview be if you think menial tasks that humanity has had to toil under for millennia being replaced by machines and computer is a bad thing?

Liberals want this to happen, and want to create a society where the wealth created by such advances are shared by all. In other words, a utopia.

Conservatives are scared of the future and think we should live in the middle ages forever.

There was a time in human history where having a family wasn't seen as a luxury, you know?

Oh no, this is terrible! How will the USA ever recover?

A surplus of labor and the loss of menial tasks as careers? Too bad we are not the greatest entrepreneurs in motherfucking history, who will simply invent new industries that give our people better opportunities than flipping burgers anyhow.

Oh wait. That's exactly who the fuck we are. Let these jobs be mechanized. Let our entrepreneurs have a new labor pool to draw from. I believe in America enough NOT to think that losing cashiers is a bad thing.

That's why I'm going into research. It's one thing for an AI to do a complex task, but research takes a bit of creativity, which AIs won't be able to do for a long time.

Half the population SHOULD starve to death. Survival of the fittest.

You must be the coolest kid in the 10th grade.

I had my first experience with fast food ordering kiosk from a quickchek and holy shit was it great. I ordered my sandwich in complete detail in 1 minute while It would of taken 2-4 minutes + tip from some sassy teenager. I hope we get these things in most fast food places since they leave better customer service then actual human beings.

Wait, you didn't leave a tip on the counter for the people who made your burger??

gibmedats

>let's make low-skilled jobs illegal...
>complain when low-skilled jobs are eliminated

Fucking retarded politicians, I swear. You can't get more stupid people... Trump included:
foxnews.com/politics/2016/05/09/trump-shows-flexibility-on-taxes-minimum-wage-in-turn-toward-november.html

If its one thing I learned about Socialism, the first things to go are these worthless jobs of cashiers and kiosk attendants. Why do these low wage income suckers not understand that asking for more when they deserve less without dedicating themselves to something larger is actually killing their lifestyles?

>Muh Socialism
>Muh Equality
>Muh benifits
>Muh jobs

All into the trash with Socialism.

I was... 13 years ago.

So I work at Walmart and I'm a self check host. Self check machines will not replace regular cashiers until they stop being clunky as shit. From what I gathered, there are two maybe three companies that make self check machines and none of them care to put effort into making them work once you get them.

The machines are consistently slow and break down hourly. I manage eight machines and we only ever run 6-7 at any given time. All eight working is a miracle. That is just the machine side of it.

Customers are idiots. You can have 10 signs brightly colored with huge bold font saying "CLOSED," "CASH ONLY," "CARD ONLY" and the dumb fuck customers will walk up to it and go ahead and try and use the machine anyways and then bitch when they can't pay with cash when the computer even prompts you that the machine is "CARDS ONLY."

Next customers are slow and the sensitive machine's scales don't help. Any order can take twice as long as it would for a cashier to do. This isn't noticed with smaller orders but larger orders can easily take half an hour.

Lastly, I end up doing about half the orders anyways because customers can't figure out how to scan items, follow instructions on the screen, or put money into the machine.

Even if the machines get better, cashiers won't go away until idiots go away. And as my dad always says "50% of people are below average."

>In other words, a utopia.
And libruls have divorced from reality long ago.
Thanks for demonstrating this.

can't tell if this is an expertly crafted bait or a person who genuinely believes firing people to pay others more is a good thing

fighting for a "living wage" is a moral argument and has no economic basis and you destroy your moral argument by firing people.

Pretty sure people would rather make 7 dollars an hour than 0

about time that shit was automated.

they've gotten my order wrong for the last time.

once the minimum wage hits 20 an hour even the faggot cooks are done.

i hope you wont mind starving then

>>let's make low-skilled jobs illegal...

Where the fuck are you getting this from?

Soon...

they did this here with our bank basically.

Out of 6 teller stations, only 1 left, and the rest are machines.

The 1 teller line is full of people because old folks want to talk to a person when they bank. The rest of the lines are empty save for one dude who has to hang around and help everyone use the machines.

I went to another branch where they had people because it was still faster than using the machines without any lines actually. The fucking UI was atrocious, hard to navigate, and limited in what you can do.

At the moment, using their machines wasn't a good experience.

There will always be a demand for people to service other people though, this much I can guarantee you, Mr. Leaf.

if your low-skill job generates $6/hr in revenue, and you make it illegal for companies to hire you for anything less than $15/hr.... that's the SAME THING as making that job illegal to begin with. You're being priced out of the market.

>The 1 teller line is full of people because old folks want to talk to a person when they bank.

Old people always take the longest at banks because they won't shut the fuck up. I'm pretty sure most old people go to the bank solely because they're lonely and want someone to talk to.

So you also support the right of Jamal to kill your family to take your property, right? If you can't stop him, you're too weak to live. Gotta build those walled compounds and barbed wire fences and drive yourself around in a tank.

Man, these guys should have patented this shit.

This. If a nigger rapes and murders your 10 year old daughter, she deserved it for not being strong enough to stop him.

Checked

Just because dad will give you a job that you don't know how to perform does not mean that the devaluation of labor in the real world is a good thing.

No, it's not the SAME THING.

By your logic, it'll be just when I kill you and steal your shit in the coming revolution.
I already knew this, but it's nice that you agree.

liberal utopia is a make believe society where white men don't exist and minorities live in peace somehow

Hello, I'm common-sense and basic economics.. have we met?

No?

I didn't think so.

Why should I even bother working if I don't make enough money to do anything?

>>>r/im12andthisisdeep

As a millwright, this dream machine fave me a chuckle

If you live by yourself in a dilapidated house, are too retarded to use internet, and all you have for entertainment was shitty TV reruns with 30 minute drug commercials about ailments and blood thinners, you'd also want to get the hell out and try to talk to anyone that walks.

Just because you "feel" it's the same thing, doesn't make it so.

>Those who don't work, don't eat.

Maybe 100 years ago, you'd be hard pressed to find someone literally starving these days

>thinking equilibrium wage/balance can ever be met in a real market
How's high school treating you?

>Doesn't eliminate the workforce.

The POS ordering system doesn't eliminate the workforce. This eliminates the workforce.

youtube.com/watch?v=iQ_fSP3LGw8

... and cooks your food perfectly. And never forgets to take off the fucking onions.

Amazon runs entire warehouses the size of small cities with only a barebones staff. Inventorying the pickles isn't even a technological challenge. It's all about price.

The second you price human labor above the entry point for automation, human labor goes away.

The perfect fast food experience will be clean, sanitary, efficient, with not a single nigger collecting a paycheck. You'll hire a janitor to keep the eating area clean, and one cute white girl to just talk to people. (At least until we go full Japanese and replace the cute girl with a robot too...)

the company I work for put in kiosks after a negress fake TWO robberies of her cash drawer

nothing of value was lost

It's funny because half of the employees at my local mickie D got fired and got replaced by those machines too.
