if you like jazz fusion or funk, look up this guy. You probably know him from Hellsing. This is his blog btw. Enjoy.

Been listening to a lot of Suilen lately.

The new Kayoko Yoshizawa album is a lot of fun too. The single isn't too characteristic of the album, but I still like it.

Ogre You Asshole is one of those bands that people on Sup Forums would never stop talking about if they knew who they were.
I'm legitimately the only fan of theirs here.
>Japanese Modest Mouse
older stuff, definitely. they got their name from the guitarist of Modest Mouse too; but their new material could not be any more removed. The 2nd, 3rd, and 5th links demonstrate this. they're more into psychedelia now.
I honestly really need to dive into their discog. Been meaning to for years. Any album you'd recommend starting with? RYM is borderline useless for Asian music.
That entirely depends on what you're into. As the other user said, they were pretty much the Japanese Modest Mouse for a few years. Their first batch of releases (S/T, Alphabeta vs. Lambda, Foglamp, their mini-albums) all have that Modest Mouse sound; but from their next album "Homely" and on (Homely, 100-nengo, Papercraft, and everythingsomethingnothing) they got wayyy more "out-there" and more into noise and psychedlia.
If you're up for it, start with Alphabeta vs. Lambda, that was the album that got me into them and expand from there. Start with that album and just move forward through their discography. Here are two examples to show you just how drastically their sound turned:

Their best releases, IMO, would be (in no particular order): Alphabeta vs. Lambda, FogLamp, 100-nengo, Papercraft, and everythingsomethingnothing
oh, and also listen to their "live album", Workshop which came out last year. They're an entirely different experience live and completely rearrange their songs for live performances. Compare

Thanks. I'll snag that tonight.
