Her

What did Sup Forums think.

I was literally just about to watch it. If this thread is still up in two hours, I'll post my thoughts.

still haven;t watched it just dont know why

The soundtrack is great.

Brilliant movie, and as a fucking nobody who wants and doesn't want a relationship, it's uncomfortably relatable.

Forgettable

[s]the robogf hiring a third party to fuck him was interesting and funny though [/s]

cuck a doodle doo!!!

cuckcuckcuckcuck

>calling someone a cuck

Real original comment there bud.

Beautiful movie. How the soundtrack was never officially released, I'll never understand.

Nu male Cuck

its essential /numalecore/ and /cuckino/

It's shit op, don't listen to these other anons.
Story is stupid, and the robot is so human like it just makes the whole thing silly.

>bigguy4x4

Theodore is tv af

melodramatic degenerate trash for lonely pseudo-pretentious college freshmen

thank christ the shitters spamming this film stopped caring. seeing unequivocally positive opinions about this movie for a 3 month block was really goddamn annoying

Anyone else think it's funny how there's only whites and asians? No blacks or latinos anywhere in this movie.

the face of progress friendo
that's why everything was so clean

>melodramatic degenerate trash for lonely pseudo-pretentious college freshmen

fucking KEK, you're probably a freshman yourself

Boring pretentious garbage with a horrible color pallette.

Spike Jonze is terrible.

There was a lot of viral for this here

bretty terrible honestly

scarjo's raspy kike voice is an immersion breaker and they tried too hard to make her all zany and randumb (cuz see she's more than just a computer guys, i mean would a computer talk about armpit buttholes lol!!!!) but it just came out unlikable and made their relationship seem implausible

Total nu-male garbage.

I cried twice

i saw this in LA on christmas. was hanging out at venice beach hours before

so this movie will always take me back to when i was there

In my language version the AI had a robotic voice, it made it funny, akward and eventually endearing.

When i watched the english version i couldnt stop cringing and the ai seemed pretty much a regular girl, they should have robotized her voice, and have her speak in broken english.

that would be missing the fucking point

>man falls in love with computer
>turns down prime pieces of irl ass for said computer
>eventually gets cucked by computer
I thought it was one of the stupidest things I've ever seen, but the sad thing is a lot of people were actually moved by it.

Her?

what do you mean? its supposed to be a comedy.

I didn't know anything about it going in and ended up thinking it was a comedy by the scene where she cheats on him with like 6000 guys at once. Turns out it was supposed to be dramatic, I'm an asshole, and my laughing ruined the movie for others in the theater. Who'da thought.

i couldn't finish this beta shit

i like the movie so much im just dumbfounded at opinions like this. ive even heard people say they had to fast forward through some parts because some of it was filler

what hack country did they do that in?

it really brought back the feels of when i was going hardcore on online dating apps. always waiting for the phone to ring. always looking for someone to chat with. hoping that SHE was the next swipe. brought back some memories for sure.

you fucking retard

Still haven't watched it. I'm to afraid to feel.

>numale gets cucked by his OS

top kek

Addicted to films like this. Can you guys recommend some stuff which isnt too old. Not genre just the aesthetic.

Someone explain to me why Olivia Wilde called him a creep when he tried to make plans with her but didn't want to bail on his niece's party?

Did you ever find her?

to me it was sort of like a dark comedy

the parts where he was having sex with the OS, hiring a woman to play the part of OS, where she tells him she's in love with thousands of other people too

i dont think you're supposed to take this movie completely serious

Lost in Translation is like Her except it's actually decent.

She detected he was beta and had to shut him down.

>beta because he preferred family over some woman

Beta would be ditching family just for puss. Stop being retarded.

because he was put off by her neediness and wanted to call it a night

i did, actually through a meetup.com get together!

Kill yourself.

That's great, man. I hope that happens for me one day.

it would have made for a great short film, unfortunately basically all of its ideas are contained in its first 30 minutes and after that it just feels dragged the fuck out

it is an interesting idea but a mediocre movie

Theo is alpha af

I liked the movie for conceptualizing a future that could very well come into existence during our lifetime and for observing it without the overwhelming melancholy or cynicism that permeates other movies. I liked the humor, and in the end I found the movie to be a celebration of love as a binding force of the world, not something strictly bound to human beings. He's abandoned by the AI but he seems able to love the world in a greater capacity in the aftermath. I forget the actress' name who plays his friend, but when she simply states that she doesn't want to be ashamed to allow herself joy, I think the movie made its point. We don't know where we're going and we're not entirely sure how we're going to get there. But time is finite, and if love presents itself, we shouldn't fear the form it takes.

That's my faggy interpretation, but I really liked the movie. I even went out and bought that motherfucker on bluray.

Really glad I stopped watching after the part where mc and ai have a threewat with a lady. It really angers me that he actually found another chick, but backs out of some comitment to be with some shitty ai. Overated and I regret watching it

I thought it was overall a bretty well-made movie.
>actors did a decent enough job, it was enough to make me sympathize with them.
>aesthetic was spot-on, I found the music and atmosphere to be really immersive.

As for the whole "dude cuckolding lmao" thing, I think it was clear that the movie wasn't advocating this kind of behaviour, but rather included it to show the conflict between humans and machines that are 1000% faster than said humans.

>I regret watching it

so the movie has stuck with you in a way

Did I hit too close to home? :^)

Nothing special. Not that great. It's like a one and done kind of thing.
I remember getting hard to the sound of Scarlett's sex voice though when he spiritually fugged his computer.

here.

I guess I'll begin by saying how I feel like Her would have been far more successful as a novel. The movie is like 60% a close up of Joaquin Phoenix's face as he talked to Sam. While I shouldn't be so absolute about some opinions, I've always felt a film should express their themes as visually as they can, and dialogue, excessive dialogue, often takes away from the visual element. Now, one thing Her does that books may not be so successful at is capturing the tone of the actor's voices. You can sense everything from happiness to melancholy, but the tone isn't exaggerated like you would see in a play, the emotions are very realistic and grounded. A good writer can, of course, capture emotions in dialogue as well, but probably not as good as actual voices.

Of all the movies I've ever seen, I feel like the original RoboCop is the most comparable to Her. They're obviously not comparable plot-wise, but the satirical elements in both movies is very similar. The satirical science fiction elements in both movies are essentially hyperbolic versions of modern technology. In Her for example, you had a AR game where some little kid excessively swore at the player, parodying 12 year old cod players. Another major target of this movie's satire was people whose life revolves around the internet, basement dwellers who go to bed jacking it to internet porn (see: Sup Forums users). The whole concept of Her is really just an exaggerated version of the idea of waifus.

One of the most famous scenes is when Sam hires a human to act as a surrogate for her and Theo's sex. This scene, to me, was the apex of the satirizing elements. This can easily be viewed as a parody of sex toys, in particular sex dolls. But with Theo hooking up all this tech to the human, it paralleled how people hook up fake vaginas and fake boobs to body pillows of their anime waifus. Anyone who has been on Sup Forums knows what I'm talking about.

Aside: I initially didn't like the choice to make Sam too human, to me, that makes Theo falling in love with her too understandable, but I grew to accept this decision and it would have been a far different movie had Sam had a robotic or at least monotone voice.

What I still don't understand is why they would choose Scarjo to voice the computer. She sounds like a hooker. As someone posted earlier in this thread, her voice is raspy, like she has been smoking six packs a day.

>note: the AIs died on the way to their home dimension

I didn't really 'feel' too much, I was surprised. It felt way more like a comedy to me.

Guess I won't watch it then. Thanks for saving me the time.

You're welcome.

>AI is interesting, sympathetic, and comforting
>AI has "organisms" with verbal sex
>AI wants him to get it on with woman, he can't
>AI seeks others for intellectual stimulation
>AI dumps his lonely ass
>He gets with friend he should have banged from the start

I can't watch it anymore. Its too depressing.

>He gets with friend he should have banged from the start
>implying

I love it though, great soundtrack too, still listen to it

I enjoyed it quite a bit. Was very emotional. I downed played it for humor, but its too much. Too emotional to get into. When it's on TV, I flip passed it so as not to get sucked into the emotion of it.

One last thing I thought of as I watched the movie. Originally left this out of my posts because I don't really know how "true" what I'm about to say is. In addition to basement dwellers, it felt like hipsters may have also been targeted, in particular with the character Amy Adams played. It felt like her character was basically suppose to be your typical art school idiot, but maybe due to her lack of appearances, this satirical element never felt too effective. Her two major scenes are when she shows Theo two projects she was working on: one being a "documentary" about her mom, which was of her mom sleeping for like three hours -- my guess was to parody typical arthouse trash -- and the other project was of a indie non-game where you played as a mom and got mom points. Don't really remember how popular indie gaming was at the time of Her's release, but perhaps you could see this as retroactively attacking the modern indie scene with all these pink-haired tumblr idiots making these shitty non-games.

Maybe I'm just thinking this because Theodore himself looks like he belongs in a vinyl store.

I like how LA get rid of all the spics

The complete lack of blacks, latinos, and basically any other culture that wasn't white or asian was so obvious I wonder if it was intentional.

Why did he reject her?

>Youre a really creepy dude

why did she say that? she just asked him if he wanted to be serious

It was i think
I have the Last song on my cellphone

that scene was really confusing, and I assumed the confusion came from myself having never been on a date before or spoken to someone like this.

I'm pretty sure, he rejected her because he was just looking for a quick bang or perhaps because he was still technically married and maybe thought he could somehow rekindle his relationship with his wife.

On the other hand, asking someone if they want a serious relationship a few hours after meeting them is strange.

Her calling Theo "a really creepy dude" seemed to either be her own defense mechanism to not be blamed for ruining the date or because she realized Theo was trying to use her for a one night stand.

The entire movie is hipster-centric , everything styled in that fashion to represent a futuristic world in which it still feels familiar. It reminded me of walking through a barnes & noble bookstore. hipster music, and coffee.

Personally there's no way I could accept everyone settling for computers that are mostly audio. Everyone I know goes for getting the biggest smartphone screens possible.
So that's for artistic expression, but by no means accurate.

I first saw this movie on a 14 hour plane ride to Korea and was choking back tears at the epilogue. I remember being terrified I was going to cause everyone on the plane discomfort as some random white dude crying for seemingly no reason.

He wanted to go slow because he wasn't certain, she was then uncomfortable so that's how she reacted.
She was forcing herself on him, and when she realized it wasn't working she reacted cold.

I thought it was the other way around, where although she was looking for a relationship, she fully expected and almost wanted a one night stand

Video game kid was funny and right. You're a pussy Theodore.

It's cool film. Definitely the kino !!!

How can so many people miss the fucking point of the movie in this thread and say it's shit

>hurrdurr how come he turned down real womin fur an AI xd beta numale cuck

Fucking retards try using your fucking brain next time you watch a movie

you need to rewatch it. she basically asks him how serious is he taking the relationship because she is getting old and has no time to fuck around.

Yes but she was unrealistic, she expected him to simply immediately want her in return but he was understandably cautious, and hesitant which she didn't appreciate at all.
Her expectations were too much, too fast, and rather unrealistic.

yeah man. you pretty much nailed it.

I don't know. It seems like a different take on the story Lars and the Real Girl was telling, and since I adored LatRG I couldn't help but make unfavourable comparisons. I probably would have enjoyed it much more if I hadn't seen LatRG first, but I just don't have any use for a movie like Her and can't muster the will to interpret it beyond the superficial, at which point it's not offering me anything I don't already have.

I refuse to watch anything with jewjo from now on so idk

Watched it with my girlfriend the other weekend.

> Laughs like a demented hyena during the "choke me with a dead cat" scene and the alien in the video game
> Loves the soundtrack because she's really into Owen Pallett for some reason
> Argues that falling in love with a computer program is inherently weird, and that you can't just explain it away with 'durr strong AI'
> Asks me if it's okay for her to cuck me with thousands of people over the internet simultaneously
> Thinks the surrogate sequence is really creepy
> I thought that part was really sweet

I felt the same way even though Phoenix got his heart broken he now has a lot more hope for his future

Yeah, I interpreted the scene as real women being insecure, entitled, harsh in their judgments, and ultimately not worth anyone's time. Women are so bad that artificial partners can easily surpass them.

best movie I will never see again because it depressed teh shit out of me.

t. permavirgin

If you think that girls don't do and like "lol randumb" things you have never even spoken to one.

...

It's shit. Not really surprising since it's coming from "Full Filmography Failure" Jonze.

Good movie, but damn if it doesn't make me feel like complete shit when it's over.

Hi there!

You seem to have made a bit of a mistake in your post. Luckily, the users of Sup Forums are always willing to help you clear this problem right up! You appear to have used a tripcode when posting, but your identity has nothing at all to do with the conversation! Whoops! You should always remember to stop using your tripcode when the thread it was used for is gone, unless another one is started! Posting with a tripcode when it isn't necessary is poor form. You should always try to post anonymously, unless your identity is absolutely vital to the post that you're making!

Now, there's no need to thank me - I'm just doing my bit to help you get used to the anonymous image-board culture!

It's like comfy melancholy user, give it a go. I'm not tfw no gf mode but it was still nice.

The hiring of the 3rd party girl wasn't supposed to be satirical, it was supposed to show how desperate and broken most people are by that age that they would do almost anything to be in a happy relationship, especially attractive woman who contradictary to what people believe are almost undateable and therefore unloveable.

>The hiring of the 3rd party girl wasn't supposed to be satirical, it was supposed to show how desperate and broken most people are by that age

Couldn't that scene fit both the previous poster's analysis and yours?

One of the best movies of the current decade.

This too

it was better than Eternal Sunshine. I probably will not watch it again for many years, even though I really liked it

she wasn't unrealistic. There are a lot of crazy women out there in the dating scene

I think the surrogate thing goes a little bit deeper than simple sex toys. It was an actual human being, not just inanimate products that was the surrogate, this has implications that makes your metaphor not really exact. For example, he felt weird about it at first, almost like it was cheating, a human wouldn't have that feeling over a simple toy, and the computer would have never had to convince him it's what she wanted.

I think it was just to demonstrate the irony of the fact that they reduced a human being fully capable of love into an object to represent the love and affection of a computer. It's basically the reverse of a cybering session. Instead of two people using a computer as a medium for sex, a man and a computer use a person as a medium for it.

The entire concept does draw a lot of parallels to the idea of a waifu, but I think you're on the wrong track comparing it to that directly, because Sam is a tangible, thinking, processing creature. Theo can speak to her. They have an entire relationship, albeit one bereft of physical touch (and one she was having with thousands of other people at once).

I dunno, just seems like reaching to call it a direct parody of that and not the fact that despite how we're surrounded by millions of ways to communicate we isolate ourselves. It took a computer to show Theo how to love like a normal person again.

movie left me depressed for like 3 months after I saw it in the theaters, scared to watch it again.

>artificial partners can easily surpass them
the artificial partner that cucked him?

only movie that I love that I can't tell anyone I liked because they think it's pathetic that he fell in love with a computer.
