No, carbon tax is absolutely retarded.

Why does it seem unlikely

Kek

...

What you should be asking is which countries benefit most from america EPA'ing itself to death?

There is abundant proof. Did you not even bother to google it?

Climate change isn't a personal issue which you get to decide is either right or wrong. It's basic science with tons of evidence to support it.

Here, go read some science for once:

climatecentral.org/news/the-last-time-co2-was-this-high-humans-didnt-exist-15938

Whats the problem, if we do something about it everyone is better off later on, even if it turns out to be bullshit.

If the sun were to supernova and envelope the earth in a ball of fire the liberals would blame it on man made global warming

You know it's true

something something oh no our carbon made it to the sun! you storrmweenies destroyed the earth with your carbon 6 million jews dead!

>Iceberg

every damn time

...

Idk, the idea that we have that much of an effect on the world just isn't logical. The 97% of scientists quote comes from a study where 72/75 climate scientists voted yes, on a UN climate change board.

the RMS olympic was scrapped last time I checked, not sunk

That 97% figure actually comes from a meta analysis of about 12,000 scientific papers concerning anthropogenic global warming.
iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1088/1748-9326/8/2/024024

If you actually fall for the "climate change isn't real" meme, you're sucking hardcore psuedoscientific cuckservative cock.

The corrupt establishment (GOP/DNC, Jews, arabs, wealthy elite) make their billions from oil, which pumps tons and tons of carbon into the atmosphere.

THEY are the ones feeding the "global warming is a hoax" idea into your minds, because they do not want to threaten their oil profits.

The science-deniers of today are fundamentally no different from the Church elites of the past who threw people in jail for discussing a Heliocentric solar system. The reasons for both are exactly the same: reality threatens their power.

Olympic and Titanic were switched for an insurance scam Ayer Olympic was involved in a collision.

>he thinks climate change is real
>but falls for the dark age meme
nice

Interesting
I just wanted civil discussion more than a bait thread, was legitimately confused as to what the general consensus was around here. My question is this: Is government funded science ok when numbers have been fudged deliberately in the past, and when the skeptics are non-government?

>Temperatures are rising
>Burning more CO2 than ever before
>Obvious causation
this meme again

There are non-government parties in consensus as well. We need to distinguish climate policy from climate science.

You can fully buy into the science behind AGW but still think that carbon taxes and other government regulations are a stupid idea.

Oh of course.

I have no idea why people think they're so intelligent or individualistic for denying global warming, when they're literally just brainwashed by oil industry and regurgitating propaganda.
It's so sad how easy it is to take advantage of tards with minimal understanding of science.

>expecting consensus on Sup Forums
nigger you just need to look at the temperature data and use your head
do geological changes occur in such a short timespan? A: no

>meme
WEW LAD
it's fucking basic as shit, increased density in the atmosphere acts as a blanket, trapping more of the sun's heat instead of letting it be reflected into space

>mentions historical occurrence
>MEMES MEMES MEMES
he never said da choich was ebil, give it a break you autistic weebs

welcome to all of human history

>look at the temperature data
Satellite data looks fine.

Don't be a degenerate. Respect nature and don't fuck it up.

Women and Children first would cause a lot of debate these days,
>where do you put trannies,
>do you allow minority women to go before white ones?
You'd have to create an evacuation order without causing offence before you even lower the first lifeboat.

What the fuck? Is this a troll post?
Look at the goddamn line on that graph. It's drawn through .25 C, not 0. That data shows that it's increasing fucking siginificantly.

So called climate skeptics believe the world has warmed over the last 150 or so years. They also believe increased CO2 concentration caused by man has played some part in that.

The only part they disagree with is that they don't think it will be CATASTROPHIC, or that the current warming will have some runaway(positive feedback) warming.

This is why those scientists are cast into the dirt. They refuse to be propagandists who try to scare everyone.

global warming is real. just because the lefties say it doesn't mean you have to be against it. don't let whatever place on the political spectrum tell you what to believe

Fuck off, Exxon shills.

By looking at ice cores, in the past 800,000 years, the CO2 concentration never exceeded 280 PPM.

Since about 1850, and the Industrial Revolution, and the rise of the internal combustion engine, CO2 concentrations have passed 400 PPM and are on their way to 500 PPM.

Watch the film Chasing Ice. See for yourself.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbon_dioxide_in_Earth's_atmosphere
>The current episode of global warming is attributed to increasing emissions of CO2 and other greenhouse gases into Earth's atmosphere. The global annual mean concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere has increased by more than 40% since the start of the Industrial Revolution, from 280 ppm in the mid-18th century to 407 ppm as of 2016.[4] The present concentration is the highest in at least the past 800,000 years[5] and likely the highest in the past 20 million years.[6] The increase has been caused by anthropogenic sources, particularly the burning of fossil fuels and deforestation.[7] The daily average concentration of atmospheric CO2 at Mauna Loa first exceeded 400 ppm on 10 May 2013.[8] It is currently rising at a rate of approximately 2 ppm/year and accelerating.[9][10] An estimated 30–40% of the CO2 released by humans into the atmosphere dissolves into oceans, rivers and lakes.[11][12] which contributes to ocean acidification.

Go park your car in the garage and run the engine for a few hours while you sit in it.

Now do that for 100 years with millions and millions of cars.

Humans have altered the basic atmosphere of the planet with fossil fuel emissions and industrial livestock breeding.

At least in the US. Nothing can compare to the 1930s

Small sample size but whatever. in the 1930s there were 25 days that reached 100+ degrees in my home city.

Since I was born in 1989 there have been 6 such days.

People who doubt anthropogenic climate change are like those old ladies who smoke cigarettes and say "I'm still here!"

The oil industry spreads as much (if not more) disinformation than the tobacco industry.

Lolololol hundreds of thousands of years

If you believe correlation equals causation, anything can come true.

Also, everyone should pay a carbon tax when the centralized form of currency is the petrodollar, that way you can tax money for being money; establishing the USD as the only form of monetary currency didn't give the IMF enough control.

yeah, elephants did it.

As long as someone can come up with a viable alternative I don't even care if the source is some Amerilard who loves oil. I have yet to see one alternative that can seriously help the globe when it comes to it's oil/gas addiction.

Volcanoes maybe?

Are you going to claim that the current rising seas and melting glaciers and rising ocean acidification and bleached corals can be blamed on Mount St. Helens?

Do you even know what PPM means?

>inbf the fire in canada was caused by global warming

The proof is that some guy wrote a book about it and some other guys decided to make money off it and it turned into an industry.

Also, if you are in an era of general warming, you can call that "proof" even though these eras come and go all the time throughout history.

It's a lucky coincidence for Al Gore and his pals.

Make gasoline $10 a gallon everywhere. The cost of fossil fuels should reflect their actual environmental impact.

If the sea level rises 3 feet, it will displace 150 million people. That's like 25 Holocausts.

Not only that, but the ocean is getting more acidic, because CO2 and water make carbonic acid, and everything with calcium carbonate shells (including plankton, near the bottom of the food chain) is turning into goo. So God help if you if you want to eat fish in a few decades that wasn't farmed in an apartment building in China.

Because of climate change, and drought, you can believe that wildfires will get worse, leading to more carbon emissions and more deforestation.

Jesus fucking Christ, don't you fossil fuel industry shills (or useful idiots) have anything better to do than spread your retarded bullshit on Sup Forums?

Shouldn't you be sucking Sean Hannity's cock right now?

Nuclear can easily replace fossil fuels when it comes to power grid.

The only thing standing in nuclear's way are hippies that don't understand what they're talking about.

lmao wtf kind of conspiracy can be easily debunked with a quick image search this is some lazy ass conspiracy right here

this triggered me

Have you ever taken a chemistry class?

Do you know the difference between 280 PPM of CO2 and 500 PPM of CO2?

If you love automobiles so much, how about you suck on an exhaust pipe? Go live in Beijing for a week.

You're like those fucking retards in the 50s who thought dumping toxic waste into rivers was a good idea. Fucking morons.

Yeah, let's make an area uninhabitable for 10,000 years so you can play tag with a bunch of 13-year-olds on Xbox. What a great idea.

How does that help people who drive?

>If the sea level rises 3 feet, it will displace 150 million people. That's like 25 Holocausts.

If you make oil and gas unaffordable for the majority of the planet you will also cause dozens holocausts

oil is the only reason there is 7 billion people instead of like, 2

you have to account for the hundreds of millions of dead when you cut off oil without suitable replacements that can support that same number+constant growth

Driving will obviously become illegal

I bike to work just fine, why can't everyone else?

what are you talking about? are you saying nuclear anything = 10,000 years of radioactivity and death?
chernobyl is habitable right now, by the way

>If the sea level rises 3 feet
The sea level is rising at a rate of ~3 mm per year. Muh rising seas is literally fucking nothing.

People literally have generations to consider moving before they even start getting wet.

>If you make oil and gas unaffordable for the majority of the planet you will also cause dozens holocausts

Oh yeah, because if there aren't millions of millions of people alone in cars commuting every day, they'll just die.

If we don't make more concrete and pour more concrete, they'll all just die.

If we don't have container ships bringing in more plastic frap from China, they'll all just die.

>I bike to work just fine, why can't everyone else?

They'll get hit by a car and die.

Regardless coal is being driven out of business and natural gas is filling the void.

Why hello there, I have charts as well.

Even if you don't do a single thing about cars and let them keep guzzling gas, swapping the power grid over to nuclear eliminates a massive chunk of fossil fuel consumption.

>At Chernobyl and Fukushima, Radioactivity Has Seriously Harmed Wildlife

You pro-nuclear people had a chance to get it right. And you fucking blew it. Literally.

Instead of asking if mad made climate change is real or not, consider this:

Any entry level geology class will teach you an interesting fact about this planet's history.

There have been climate changes since the earth was formed. Most of them were more dramatic than anything Al Gore is promoting. Most if not all of these events all but eliminated life on earth.

So, lets say humans are assisting in climate change. It is nothing compared to what nature does to itself. The whole thing betrays the hubris of people in power.

Man made? No. The whole concept is based entirely off of computer models that have consistently failed to accurately predict anything.

Now, I will concede that the climate does change. It has for thousands of years.

Literally everything is made out of oil and similar energy sources. Oil was massively involved in every single thing you have, own, wear, eat. You would not exist without oil. Everything you ordered online was done because of oil. Every videogame made relies on tons of oil. Oil is involved in every step of every process of every single thing that happens in the modern world. Oil has it's imprint on everything.

The entire world runs on oil. Everyone's lives relies on oil. When you remove oil, you also remove those lives.

Most countries' populations will be wiped out without oil. Unless you have a suitable plentiful energy source that can immediately take it's place. If it doesn't produce the same amount of energy, then whatever the difference is = lives that will die.

Whatever new renewable solar source also must take no oil to create, manufacture, mine materials for, or transport. No oil must be involved in the scientist and engineering research labs whatsoever (no plastics, no oil based fuel, etc). It must be 100% green.

Shouldn't be you sucking Rush Limbaugh's penis right now?

If you think Muslim refugees flooding into Europe or illegal immigrants flooding into America is a problem now, wait until you have millions of climate refugees.

>Five Solomon Islands Disappear Into the Pacific Ocean as a Result of Climate Change

And the Maldives might not even exist in 7 years.

And wait until these stateless people want to sue the world and want reparations for making their country vanish.

And it's not just island peoples whose home is vanishiing, it also includes coastal cities. Like Miami. New Orleans. New York City. Tokyo.

It also means that hurricanes and typhoons and tsunamis will come more inland.

You people are total fucking retards and should be shot.

I don't get why people think we need to just cut off oil to fix global warming. Instead we should be researching alternative energy sources and slowly ease people off of oil. Yes right now alternative energy is inefficient but with enough research some day they will be very efficient. By the time we are dead, assuming we live long, most people will be driving electric cars with renewable energy. As long as it gets funding. The Sun gives off so much unused energy every day, it is insane. We could have so much energy if we could harness it more efficiently. Even if you don't believe in global warming, you must understand the idea of having a limited amount of fossil fuels. Sure in our lifetime there will still be fossil fuels but what about future generations? Like it or not, if we want to have a society that uses as much energy as it does now in the future, then we need to have renewable energy sources.

I'm sure anons on Sup Forums will change the fate of the world's climate, user.

If anyone cares, J.P. Morgan had a stake in Whitestar and made Ismay keep Edwards on as captain to abandon Titanic for the insurance. The plan was a boiler fire. Edwards was a drunk.

> slowly ease

BUT WE ARE NEARING THE POINT OF NO RETURN

THE POINT OF NO RETURN

POINT OF NO RETURN POINT OF NO RETURN AL GORE SAID SO THE APOCALYPSE THE APOCALYPSE THE APOCALYPSE

honestly man all your posts make you sound like a butthurt 16 year old. you are getting way too emotionally invested in this thread

I dont even understand what you mean by
>You pro-nuclear people had a chance to get it right. And you fucking blew it. Literally.
are you trying to say because the ussr cut corners and did shitty engineering work when building the chernobyl plant, every other nuclear anything in the world is bad?

Watch, he's gonna call you a "FAUX NEWS" drone now

I mean come on it's 2016

Because whether global warming itself is real or not, the policy hysteria surrounding it is a simple power grab and not intended to change anything.

>If the sun were to supernova
Are you trynna make me laugh.jpg

>Idk, the idea that we have that much of an effect on the world just isn't logical
I find it much more logical than the notion that all the CO2 data is literally made up.

The pause isn't real, the last decade has been the hottest on record. But even if it were, an 18 year pause does not invalidate a 100-200 year warming trend.

>huge spike
That happened over millions of years, not a few hundred. And even the height of that spike pales in comparison to the height at the end, where the plot just becomes a vertical line.

No. It is a scam perpetuated by bureaucrats in the UN and EU to keep stealing taxpayer money.

Regardless, eventually we are going to have to fund research for alternative energy because fossil fuel supplies are limited. I am in favor of doing it sooner rather than later partly because of global warming but also because why wait until we desperately need it to look for it? It's better to prepare ahead of time instead of just assuming everything will workout okay.

Yeah because asking people to drive less or buy local or grow their own food or use less electricity or stop playing Candy Crush is just too much to ask.

People alive today are the "good Germans", the people who knew the Holocaust was happening and looked the other way. Except more people will die this time.

bullshit dude

politicians have our best interests in mind :)

Do you know where the fuck you are dude

Because the goal isn't to stop global warming. The goal is to make a fortune on carbon shekels and redistribute the world's wealth.

>sketchy graph
>no source

gtfo

>the Holocaust
Wew lad.

You wish faggot
There was literally nothing special about The Titanic, all three of it's sister ships were just as big and just as elegant, and all three had a history of running shit over and not stopping

Is that your argument?

Earth has had multiple extinction events so what difference does one more make?

Watching Chasing Ice on Netflix. Watch the Ilulissat Glacier in western Greenland collapse in the biggest calving event ever caught on film.

>no citation
>random graph proving user's theories
>not accepting that temperatures are totally out of whack

interesting.

Get in your car, roll down your window, tape one end of a hose to the exhaust pipe and put the other end of the hose in your cracked window and sit in your car and turn it on.

Then tell me it's based entirely on computer models.

Holy shit you really do write like a faggot

how long have you been on this board, 2 hours?

When you remove oil, you remove some new products.

When gasoline was over $4 in the US, everybody didn't up and die.

When petrol is over $10 a gallon in the Europe, everybody didn't up and die.

You say most country's population will be wiped out without oil? Well with oil, you're looking at probably 90% of all species on the planet going extinct.

If the Olympics are allowed to happen in Rio, chances are the Zika virus will wipe out most country's populations just fine.

I do believe in some form of global warming or whatever, I don't really care enough to talk about it but what about the ice age?

The ice age was worldwide climate change like nothing we've ever seen before and there were no cars and factories pumping out gas

Because carbon emissions need to stop. Period.

The time to "ease" people off oil has been the last 40 years and it hasn't happened.

And there are probably not enough batteries to power all the electric vehicles in the world.

How about, oh I don't know, using less energy, instead of ruining the only known habitable planet in the universe for millions of years?

If retards online continue to spew uncertainty and doubt about anthropogenic climate change, you can bet that has a real impact on people's attitudes.

wow you really don't know where you are

Who cares what Al Gore says?

Watch Chasing Ice you fucking leaf.

The film is also relevant to OP's image. Since they sat and filmed a glacier for 3 weeks waiting for a calving event at the Ilulissat Glacier in western Greenland, the glacier they think spawned the iceberg that SUNK THE TITANIC YOU FUCKING IDIOT.

How many of your relatives are in the oil industry?

Just more Democrat and "scientists" claiming the world will end by bear attacks, asteroids, floods, etc. Nothing to get worried about. They get the big bucks to scare the shit out of everyone. Our economy is now fear-based.

So, do you think you've convinced anybody yet?

>And there are probably not enough batteries to power all the electric vehicles in the world.
I highly doubt this.
>oh I don't know, using less energy,
Not necessary. The Sun gives off WAY more energy than all of humanity uses presently. The problem is that we don't know how to harness it efficiently enough on Earth. However, with research we will get better and better at it.

>However, with research we will get better and better at it.

His argument is that we need to cut off 100% fossil fuel usage now, immediately. Because the apocalypse is coming. Watch this netflix movie you fucking repulican oil shill etc etc

you do realize the consumer carbon footprint is a fraction of the industrial carbon footprint and that americas and europes carbon emissions are nothing compared to china, right?

And you sound like some deluded fucking Singularity-believing 20-year-old from r/futurology who believes in 100 million alien civiliations.

Humans had a chance to do nuclear right. They failed.

A power grab by who? The Arabian Peninsula?

>Do you know where the fuck you are dude

Yeah, a place where people love the Holocaust.

The difference is that with climate change, it won't be just Jews and homosexuals and Gypsies who die.
