I meant that though Cowboy Bebop had a similar premise (band of misfits all running from their mysterious past takes odd jobs to survive), it was a much better show than Firefly was. Probably because of its greater jazz influence and the light moments mixed with melancholy.
I feel like it's somewhat unfair to judge Firefly based solely on its first season (even though it had only one) because some shows, especially sci-fi shows take a while to establish a nice groove. And you have to admire the man who thought up of a mega Solar System with five different suns. The show had a lot of potential.
