Im also excited for this one.

2 undefeated canadians. Hopefully Butler comes through and continues his ascension through the ranks.

Although, we haven't had a non-quebecois boxing hope in a while either.

Michelle Joy Phelps

why are all the good combat fighter French Canadians and not normal Canadians?

What are Canadian gyms like?

I don't know, I guess Montreal has just centered itself as the boxing centre of Canada. Lots of Canadians move there to turn pro, the Amateurs go there for national training, and it has by far the most active pro scene in terms of Cards.

Ive only been to one that I work out at. We have a few ex-national team boxers that are coaches there. They teach to the people who train and spar there, but by and large most people just go to get fit. Lots of "boxercise" gyms around my city, and the later sessions at my gym focus more on fitness and have relatively inexperienced people leading the class.

Also, lots of it is structured training, barely any "open gym", and because we only have maybe like 10 people that spar at my gym, we only spar Mondays and Fridays.

How does that compare to UK gyms?

Also, the people that frequent aren't ghetto or from the hood. Most are people who just love boxing and took it up. A few people from the UK, Mexico and Poland who box as a hobby. No one takes it up as a way to "get off the street" but that could just be my gym.

>How does that compare to UK gyms?

Depends, most boxing gyms here are pure boxing gyms, old halls without proper air con where kids will be taught to spar and get in shape for 3 x 2 minute rounds as expected.

Some of them have those meme boxercise classes to boost their incomes, so some gyms are kind of a mix now.

Also David Lemieux vs. Justin Trudeau on PPV when.

>missing out the Macau card]

Shit op

Ya mines definitely a mix. Some are still pretty old school but they are less common. More boxercise type gyms.

>David Lemieux vs. Justin Trudeau on PPV when.

Justin Trudeau is going to do a question period in my city on Thursday, so ill try and find out

>I watch chinky flyweight boxing in Macau, in fact, you could call me quite the connoisseur on such matters

Very VERY strong rumours in Russia about GGG vs BJS in Kazakhstan being true as discussed last thread

It's a good card, 2 good heavyweight fights on there too, he's right.

> "He is from Philadelphia so you know he's had to fight his whole life"

is there anything worse than that "Philly fighter" meme?

if you have to fight your whole life in philly why don't you just move out of that hell hole?

I unironically have insider sources on this.

The reason they've booked this fight in advance is that Expo 2017 is starting on June 10th in Astana, Kazakhstan. That's why win or lose vs. Jacobs, they're organising and announcing the fight well in advance.

why are james milner and firmino having a fight

Does /box/ think Hughie will take on Parker to get based Tyson's belt back in the family? I don't really rate Parker but it still feels like possibly too big a step up. Hughie's only fought bums

Still don't know how BJS can get away with taking millions in oligarchy blood money. He'll be torn to shreds.

He's a gypsy, who trains at MGM Marbella (sorry, ''''''MTK'''''') and is promoted by Warren.

Have a guess.

This will be one of the biggest British fights of the year though, normie media will be interested and BT will be pushing it with everything they have. Will be interesting to see the reaction, or if they manage to claim that the Kazakh dictatorship isn't directly funding it or something.

I'll try to give several. Excluding the case that some currently unknown prospect that is 3-0 takes the world by storm in the following years then in my opinion future #1 P4P candidates are:

>The dominant heavyweight

The Joshua-Klitschko and the strong talks of a Wilder-Parker unification are signs that the dust in the HW is beginning to shettle. By 2018 we could have the winners of these fights squaring off with Tyson Fury (if he comes back) and Luis Ortiz. Whoever emerges as the top HW could claim a #1 P4P rating.

>Usyk.

If he doesn't move up to HW I simply don't see any top CW beating him. He almost surely defeats the winner of Briedis-Huck (Bellew will lose) and Gassiev-Lebedev rematch and then proceeds to knock off lesser contenders such as Dorticos (who got buzzed a million times in his last fight) and Kudryashov (who hilariously tried to be Mayweather and got TKO'd). Even if he did all that I still probably wouldn't rate him #1 but you could make a case for him.

>Beterbiev or Gvozdyk

If Beterbiev beats Barrera (big if) then he will be the IBF mandatory to Ward's belt he will probably and up either fighting the winner of Kovalev-Ward rematch or the winner could retire-vacate and he would and up with a belt. Meanwhile Stevenson would fight either Gvozdyk or Joe Smith Jr. Beterbiev would then unify with the WBC title or lose and we could have a consensus top LHW who claims the #1 P4P spot. In my opinion there are to many politics involved in the LHW so I don't see this scenario playing out, but it's worth mentioning.

>Errol Spence

If he turns out as good as they say then he would probably weight bully the winner of Garcia-Thurman into submission, beat Kell Brook, Porter and an old Bradley and claim he was THE TRUTH all along. Then move up and probably get slaughtered by people who are actually his size. I don't see this scenario happening because his defense is meh and will probably get cracked by the first good puncher he faces.

1/2

>'I am a proud Mexican warrior, I never back down!'
>is a US citizen born and raised and has been stopped 3 or 4 times already

>strong talks of a Wilder-Parker unification

Warren saying Parker vs Hughie will be announced next week, whether in the UK or NZ

youtu.be/8K7jZb1orvQ?t=645

Being stopped =/= backing down
But kek. Pretty true

>Gervonta Davis vs Liam Walsh in the UK

No wonder Gervonta has been sucking up to the UK on his twitter, would be a good fight too.

Inb4 Jacobs knocks GGG the fuck out

Parker is much better at facing big guys than short pressure fighters, I think he'll chew Hughie up

I actually like Walsh a lot, both in and outside the ring, but Gervonta is too athletic for him. Walsh is going to be up and down like an elevator in this fight

>the dominant heavyweight
nobody of the current heavies, even if one comes on top will become the #1 P4P, unless he does it in a dominant fashion and he has to go through literally all the best, i.e. clear the division. Nobody has the tools for that right now. If someone does it though? Ok.

>Usyk
Usyk will only be the #P1P if he clears Cruiser and then proceeds to beat the top names at HW like Joshua, Wilder, Fury and whoever else will be a consensus best at around the time when he moves up.

>Beterbiev of Gvozdyk
lmao, those guys have to get past Ward/Kovalev first and they are not skilled enough for that. Gvozdyk has a pretty suspect chin and is less skilled than Kovalev. Beterbiev is a weird case - he might be one of the strongest punchers across all divisions and is arguably the strongest puncher at light heavy, but he doesn't have the skills of Kovalev Ward or Stevenson. He's more thn welcome to claim that spot if he beats all 3 though.

And even then - imagine if Lomachenko clears super feather, goes to 135, beats Mikey, beats anyone of note, goes to 140 and has a superfight with Crawford and beats him? That alone would make him the best P4P regardless of whatever the previous 3 candidates you mentioned do their things.

Still waiting on that Mike Tyson comeback desu

Certainly will be tough, but I'd like to think he wouldn't copy Pedraza's moronic gameplan either. May go to the show depending what card it's on, would like to see how Davis looks live.

Hughie will outclass Parker and Wilder.

The jump from Cruiser to Heavy is so extreme that if Usyk can unify cruiserweight and then beat good heavyweights he is 100% in the conversation, especially given how stacked cruiserweight is at the minute.

The main thing I hope is that Lomachenko doesn't rush up to lightweight, super feather is a great division and there are plenty of people there I'd like to see him against.

What do you lot think about Nathan Gorman? He's another pikey from a famous bareknuckle boxing family and apparently associates with or is related to the Furys. He's trained and promoted by Ricky Hatton as well. Is he the UK's next heavyweight hope?

boxingscene.com/saunders-people-realize-ggg-canelo-get-through-me--112940

>"I am the WBO middleweight champion and people should be knocking at my door - but all of these big fighters have already got fights penciled in. I know they want to, but they can't just drop them - even though I know they want to. Because for Golovkin, I've got the only belt that he hasn't got. And for Canelo, he's looking to make a big fight with Golovkin and my belt would add fire to that sort of fight," Saunders told BT Sport.

>"But people need to realize that these fighters must get through me. I'm not just here because I make the numbers up. I'm a champion and I got a champion's heart. I think with my team, especially now with Adam Booth, I could beat all of them."

So that will be why you waited until after both Canelo and GGG got their fights made to start running your mouth then?

you think that if Lomachenko, being the smaller man with all the physical disadvantages, beats the (possible) number 2 P4P in Crawford it would not make him automatically the #1 P4P even if Usyk beats good heavyweights? Not a single HW is currently a top 10 P4P fighter and none will probably be soon unless some miracle happens. Wlad was, and not even with 10 years of dominance was he ever close to top 1. Fury was when he beat Wlad and still a very shaky top 10.

How do you become a #1 P4P without beating other P4P fighters? smokin something in there, Jonathan?

There is no way Lomachenko beats Crawford at 147, which is where he'll be by the time that fight happens, so we can throw that variable away from the start.

Is Bogdan Dinu any good?

I'm talking about 140, i.e Crawford coming down if anything (he's not a big 140er by any means). Or catchweight. But yes, it's a pretty far fetched, just as far fetched as Usyk dominating HW or any current HW becoming the #1 P4P.

Usyk is excellent but he will always play second fiddle to Lomachenko. Loma is the blueprint, he was moulded into the perfect fighter from birth. Usyk applies the style well but it's not in his DNA

Although funnily enough he's a bigger star than Loma in the Ukraine. I think he has quite a big personality in his native language

Lomachencko has a lot of good fights to he made at 130-135 right now.

Crawford is a bretty big guy

4u

Only watched stuff on youtube in preparation for the fight for what it's worth. He seems to actually have some boxing fundamentals along with being huge and powerful, so he's better positioned than many heavyweights to start with. Tronche is concrete footed with the technique of an elephant in mud but fast and powerful with his hands. It's a great style matchup and should be explosive all being well, looking forward to the whole card actually, love a comfy Asian card on a Sunday morning.

Usyk was the captain of team Ukraine in the ams (Ukrainian Otamans, same team Lomachenko was in, trained by his father) and an important sort of figure in Kiev when those Maidan protests were taking place. In comparison, Lomachenko is a Russian Ukrainian.

And Usyk is a cruiser-heavy, Lomachenko is a manlet. That is exactly why Usyk will always be a bigger name in the Ukraine, even though Loma is better.

Thanks. I feel like I first heard Dinu being hyped ages ago but he's just been treading water for years

If you post the stream for the Chinese card in here I'll probably watch it too

Yeah will do, somebody I follow on twitter will link one most likely.

England's Brave Carl Frampton going to take it home by UD.

BOOK IT.

youtube.com/watch?v=QeE9dDHKmkM

In that case add Hughie into mix. Complicates things but I still think the top HW could claim #1 P4P.
>Inoue

Inoue is almost certainly the best 118'er. In 2017 he can beat whoever comes on top from Chocolatito-Rungvisai-Cuadras and receive the biggest boost in rankings anyone can get in boxing today. Then go on to beat Khalil Yafai and Estrada (who some people rank top 15 P4P) then possibly and as his body is growing, move up, beat Yamanaka's old ass and Rau'shee Warren, completely dominate Bantamweight and then even if he cherry picks for the next 3 years will ride on the Chocolatito-Cuadras-Rungvisai win for a long time.

>Gervonta Davis

No I am not kidding and please don't laugh.

I am getting into conspiracy theory level of shit now but if there is one guy who knows how to remain undefeated, stack you resume with names that even though may have been past their primes are instantly recognisable, and take the right fight at exactly the right time in order to maximise profit, minimise risk and win the infamous popularity contest that goes into determining the #1 P4P then you can bet it's Floyd. I could easily see him securing Gervonta's resume some past prime champions, luring lesser champions from lower divisions with insane amounts of money to fight Gervonta (catchweight with a 40 year old Rigo?) and every once in a while fight an actual competitive fight in order to keep Davis active and at the top of the rankings. Obviously Davis is not nearly as good as Floyd was and this whole thing is extremely far fetched but he could do it, he already admitted he doesn't want Tank to unify but does want him to "Build that bank account". He could probably secure big money fights for maximum hype and then claim P4P status off of the popularity of Davis alone.

Having said all that I think what you said is much more plausible than any of the "Everyone magically becomes friends and fights each other to unify the divisions" shit I said.

Friendly reminder that boxing is a dying sport.

get out mcgregor

What did you mean by this?

Is boxing treated like college football is eastern europe?

A lot of these guys (Usyk, Postol, Gradovich) all have university degrees. Do they just give out degrees to high level athletes? Or are eastern europeans just super focused and all they do is train and study?

A dying sport McGregor wants to be in,and would make more money in 1 fight that he has in his whole career?

The Golovkin/Jacobs fight is shaping up to be a pretty decent ppv card, first good one we'll have in quite a fucking while. Good purchase imo

UFCers are just failed boxers/kickboxers. Nobody went over to those gyms and said "oh that guy is training for UFC, serious threat". They are just boxing/kick-boxing/muay thai rejects, not even kidding. If you're that one kid in a boxing gym who's into UFC/previously MMA it means you're that stupid fuck who didn't make it in boxing. You're the kid who never tucked his chin when needed, who always left openings in sparring and paid for that, you're the kid who had a lot of power but 0 skills.

Jesus christ stop responding to the shitposters.

linked wrong video my bad

>I rate Keith Thurman

I hate you so fucking much.

...

I don't know about eastern Europe but from what I underastand it's probably similar to what happens in Greece.
They get degrees from physical education universities, their classes a lot of times look like this:

youtube.com/watch?v=5FRoKxpCdwI

youtube.com/watch?v=HLOMn5o9f_8 (Training for competition, not regular class)

Videos are from the "School of Physical Education and Sport Science" of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

Obviously there is studying required in order to learn things such as how to deal with theoretical injuries, the anatomy of the body, terminology etc but most of their classes probably are physical.

Why do you have so many Fedoras saved?

Khan vs. Floyd Mayweather, who would have won?

Is this a real question ? Mayweather by lopsided decision.

>Why do you have so many Fedoras saved?

I actually give Khan the biggest chance to beat Mayweather out of the current and most recent group of Welterweights.

I am not saying I favour him, but I would give him more of a chance than...Garcia, Thurman, Bradley, Porter, Brook etc.

Who wins that fight?

Is he /our guy/?

What did he do? I haven't been reading much on the scene the past few days.

we don't take cocaine here ;^) I don't know, I think he lacks any sort of wit in his rants to be /our guy/. He's just crazy/playing crazy.

called Thurman a nigger, or rather a 'nigga'.

mexicans hate black people, I grew up around a ton of mexicans and they were always the most racist people

Revealed his power level by calling Thurman a nigger/nigga, told immigrants to fuck off, shouted about Trump and MAGA, laughed at Crawford's 'nappy hair', told Khan that Pakis can't fight.

He's Puerto Rican.

Lomachenko is like my son, I'm really scared, I don't want him to lose and I wanna kill Salido
maybe I really am his father

Hes not mexican, he's Puerto Rican. He is just a crackhead. That's why he's been banned from all press conferences now

We all do. Try not to respond, it'll encourage him. This is what happen when we get linked to /heem/, unfortunately.

Damn savage

Yet he acts like the biggest nigger in the room while Thurman is actually a pretty respectable guy

I think it's impossible not to like Keith 'One Time' Thurman Jr

Could Dempsey compete in today's HW division?

>6'1
no chance

Tyson was 5'10 and I remember him being reasonably competitive.

I don't think Dempsey would be that competitive but it's not because of his size.

He's a bit reddit tbqh

the second they find solid evidence that that kips being ran by the Kinahans the whole show is getting packed up

>170ish pounds
>not because of his size

How did Khan beat Maidana?

He wanted it more.

its been a long camp

i feel the fittest i've ever been

Me to bro. I'm sparring either 4 or 6 rounds tomorrow and probably doing a bit of bag work after. I just got out the gym and I'm gunna cook some chicken titties

Feels good breh.

>Ricky Burns vs. Obama Indongo in April

Shieeeeeeeeeee

>Indongo

/Box/ what was your favourite KO of 2016?

#1 N'Dam vs Blanco
runner up Indongo vs Troyanovski

i dont watch fights with a chance of a KO happening

mah slick brudda

Bump!

Hopkins getting punched out of the ring was too great
