This was good. May make top 10.

Pic related is mine.

I just found this album too samey. I like a few tracks off it but nothing special.

this record is absolutely insane
but it's his worst album yet
Leaving LA is awesome tho

I really like it too! My favourite is Jupiter but it's a tough chouce what about you

Been meaning to listen to this one. How much of it is Sufjan? I'm not that familiar with the other guys.

Both albums are alright, nothing that special
I actually didn't like this album, I wanted to like it but I couldn't
>pic related is unironically my fav album of the year so far

it's essentially a Sufjan solo project, he clearly wrote the majority of the material, I just think the others are included in the billing because Sufjan usually doesn't have guest musicians on his albums at all.
no way i can choose a favorite song but my top 3 in no particular order are Uranus, Pluto, and Earth.

nothing even comes close desu

He wrote the lyrics and sings them. It sounds a bit different to other albums of his I've leistened to, such as C&L and Illinois, but it's still great imo.

If I could describe the feel of the album I think I'd say it feels a bit like kid A, with some synthesised beats and some real drums, large scale electronic sounds and overpowering echoing motifs. It feels very space-like, which is good.

My kind of music

Give Peasant another go. Maybe its not for you, but Richard Dawson is incredibly inventive the structure of his songs and his guitar playing its hard to not be entertained. It's the kind of album where a track really stands out to you, then another one does and another until you end up loving the whole thing.

So more like the Age of Adz?

k i guess

p. good.

Top 3 on this are probably:
>Crack Up
>Peasant
>On the Echoing Green

this by a mile

...

Been listening to Xiu Xiu consistently since the leak so probably that.

2017 been reel good so far

YESS fucking Wild Pink.

No one here ever talks about that album and it is greatness.

Yeah, it's really good. That and the new Sorority Noise always hit me in the feels.

If you've never listened to the Rocketboys, Wild Pink reminds me a lot of them.

Thanks, I dig it.

i cannot get into the new free throw. otherwise very nice

>Rozwell Kid
Legitimately surprised to see this here.

...

Yeah, I haven't listened to it much since release. I'll probably remove that and Shabazz Palaces soon.

...

...

emo fag here. top 10 probably in order. yall sleepin on code orange

I already posted this in another similar thread a few days ago, but since you asked.

Ah shit, I thought Code Orange was last year.

peasant is one of the coolest albums i've heard in a while

forgot to add, thanks op!

I didn't see this thread earlier.

Any other albums that are in direct competition? Also Sun kil Moon vs Jesu/skl. Melvins and Colin are the ones I'm most unsure if ones better.

Top five.

I just realized there's like 0 metal or jazz on my list really, can someone rec me some good records from those genres that came out recently?

if the third album is as good as the first two in the trilogy, Ruler Rebel / Diaspora / The Emancipation Procrastination gotta be up there

forgot to tag you in Christian Scott is killer right now. He released 2 albums this year and plans to release a third as well to complete this trilogy.

Also his older album Stretch Music is worth checking out.

New Boris album is definitely number 1, but I've liked a lot of albums so far

from 2017

Miguel Zenon - Tipico

Chris Potter - The Dreamer is the Dream

...

GODDDAMIT I JUST WANT TO FIND A LINK I WILL KILL EVERYONE

www116.zippyshare.com/v/6TR63tu2/file.html

There ya go m8. Pretty sure it hasn't been leaked in top quality, it's just a web rip of wherever it is they're streaming it I think. I haven't listened to Boris myself so I can't attest for the quality but it says 256 from my source.

Black Focus by Yussef Kamaal is some properly decent recent jazz

Luv u bby

Still need to listen to the new Avey Tare album.
New Laurel Halo was kinda disappointing.

Recs?

it's their best album since Pink, definitely a 9.5/10 at least

here is some

Bussonnet / Collignon / Godin / Vaillant - Wax'in
Kevin Eubanks - Eat west time line
Pierre Boussaguet - Le semeur
Madness tenors - Be jazz for jazz
Hadouk - Le cinquième fruit
Naïssam Jalal & rhythms of resistance - Almat wala almazala
Francois Carrier - Freedom is space for the spirit
Jens Kristian Andersen - From the nocturnal chironian
Gregory Sallet - Le mouvement crée la matière
Guillaume Perret - Free

Perret was last year mate

Anyone else feel like it's been an incredible year for electronic/ambient/drone-type music, and a shit year for everything else?

aw, shit

make room for Thomas de Pourquery - Sons of love, then

Holy fuck I just started it and it's already amazing.

best taste in the thread

>tfw the best song is the japanese bonus track

youtube.com/watch?v=SUYdepWlBhY

I'd agree that electronic/ambient stuff has been pretty on point this year, but there's been good releases in other genres as well.
Not my 2017 chart, just 2017 electronic stuff.

I haven't listened to a single album off your list, so I'll just list a rec for a few different genres:

Ambient-pop: Jacaszek - KWIATY
Jazz: Aki Takase & David Murray - Cherry Sakura OR Arve Henriksen - Towards Language
Drone: Lawrence English - Cruel Optimism OR Robedoor - New Age Sewage
Pop: Thomas Azier - Rouge OR Tiny Hazard - Greyland
Soul: Bastien Keb - 22.02.85
Rock: The Moonlandingz - Interplanetary Class Classics OR '68 - Two Parts Viper OR Big Walnuts Yonder - s/t OR Bent Knee - Land Animal OR Tunabunny - PCP Presents Alice in Wonderland Jr.
Electronic - Ryuichi Sakamoto - async OR Hauschka - What If OR Bola - D.E.G
Ambient: Ryuichi Sakamoto - async OR Anjou - Epithymia OR Gaussian Curve - The Distance

New covers of old masters of Swing, upbeat old music like Louie Armstrong: Big Bad Voodoo Daddy - Louie Louie Louie (would really rec this just if you're looking for something really fun to make you grin).

Bodyguard & Narkopop

not really

Sleep Cycle beats this by a mile

Have you listened to the new Heaven In Her Arms?

bump

these two are the sweet shit

but it sucks

...

Awesome! I've been meaning to check out that Jacaszek album for a while so I'll give that and some of these others a go.
Haven't yet, although I've been considering it.

So fucking incredible.

...

it's fucking great

the rest of the album is alright too, nowhere near as bad as some people have made out
