I like it, also like the amount of sub, but you have to kill that limiter because it just becomes shit at :30. I literally can't hear your track from that point on.
Ryder Wood
I'm desperately looking for yt videos of people writing (!) music and elaborating on their process. like, what they're doing harmonically and why they think x,y will work out or why not etc etc
do you guys know anything like that?
in general, I'm also looking for yt videos going into more advanced harmonic theory. i just checked out the tobyrush website linked in the OP and it's amazing, but while it looks like there are a couple of interesting sheets there, I'm already familiar with all the fundamentals and core concepts of functional harmony or counterpoints.
Xavier Long
Check out Adam Kneely and Ben Levin. I'm sure they have a few vids here and there of what you want
Lucas Ross
Thanks for the feedback tickets have been included. Any tips on gaining space beside sc and eq? and silence in the intro or throughout? Thanks for the feedback tickets have been included. I tried killing the limiters on individual tracks and then on the master but couldnt figure it out, any ideas?
I think I have a problem with one of my studio monitors.
>yamaha hs7
The right monitor makes these crackling noises which sound like a morse code, it's not like a whitenoise, it has a specific frequency, and it does it for 5-10 seconds and then stops. It is doing it every few minutes or so without anything playing, but I think it does it even more often when some sound is coming from it.
The monitors are plugged in a separate extension cord. The right one's cord does have to pass by a lot of other cables, so I'm not sure if that could cause a problem. They're connected to Scarlett 2i4 with TSR to XLR, the knobs on their rear are set to really low.
How should I test this and find the exact cause? The monitors are new and I didn't use anything like them before. I could always take them back to a store, but maybe it's not needed.
Elijah Allen
my audio interface is broken after 10 years and I need to get a new one.
what's a good and cheap option? I need 2 xlr outs, 1 midi in and at least 1 xlr in an additional headphone jack would be nice
Hunter Lewis
That sounds like when you get a text or some kind of message. This is due to most likely the scarlett i'd say, cause you're using balanced XLR and TRS cables. Could also be a faulty cable or that fact that you've got power cables near or in contact with you're signal cables.
If it's any help, i have also recently just got some krk rokit 5s and a scarlett 2i2 and what you're explaining has happened twice for me also. I doubt its the trs cables on mine so i think i could be the scarlett it self.
Just talked to my dad (whose been in and around music stuff for all his life) and he said its microwaves from cell phones and what have you. It's harmless really and there isnt much you can do about it since the interface has to connect to the comp and it's likely that line picking it up.
Hunter Young
Also my dad gets it on his yamaha somethings, so its a fairly common issue.
Bentley Brooks
Thx. I tried repositioning the cable a bit so it doesn't touch anything. Didn't help.
Then I unplugged the monitors from my audio interface. The right monitor still made noises.
Now I moved it to the other side of a room and plugged it in a power socket. I haven't heard anything in 10+ minutes. Hm, so it could be because of the other cables. I guess I'll have to clean and reposition everything again.
Jose Campbell
>Thanks for the feedback tickets have been included. I tried killing the limiters on individual tracks and then on the master but couldnt figure it out, any ideas? what do you mean you couldn't figure it out? can you screenshot your mixer?
Brandon Wilson
If you've got a lot of them i'm sure the cables could be the issue. As long as your power cables are a fair way way from your line cables, you should be ok.
Cameron Foster
tfw you've made it and your second album is coming out, and you come back on /prod/ and go "how the fuck did I start out on here".
Hudson Anderson
Yeah, there's really a ton of shit behind my desk. I rerouted and repositioned everything and now they seem to work fine. Hope it'll stay that way.
Jose Brooks
newfaggot with no musical experience here
any tips for somebody like me coming into synthesizers and mixing?
Juan Martin
Hope the spoopy bleeps give you some peace dude.
Jonathan Phillips
Gizza gizza?
Ryan Clark
Have a look at some of the recs in the OP.
Joseph King
what?
Julian Jenkins
lol this sounds like either bullshit or track count for the sake of track count
Grayson Davis
link your album?
Caleb Thompson
This.
Cameron Thomas
no ---- but I did recently release the second single off it. :)
Dylan Walker
Looking for a 88 keys, piano like feeling, midi keyboard. Will be used for classic piano play but also electronic music production.
Should I go for the Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol S88 or could you suggest another, better alternative? Budget 1000 Euro, everything above up to 2000 needs more consideration.
Julian Scott
Yo /prod/ what plugins give me the best organic wind chimes and orchestral drum sounds? what DAW is best for producing ambient?
Carter Morris
Well do you wanna share it with the group?
Cooper Perry
that would ruin the fun of being anonymous.
Evan Martin
So, in other words, you're a talent-less hack who indeed, has not yet "made it".
Joseph Scott
careful with that edge, eugene
Landon Butler
not him but i know of 2 people who came here and made it, boy and grill
Joshua Torres
Or in other words...I came here to be nostalgic and now the people on here are assholes. I have made it fairly decently...my recent single had someone who sang a top 10 with Mariah Carey...so can't be too bad.
Lucas Nguyen
Don't be silly, just let us listen to a tune. There is no reason to mention your album or singles and not share a song.
Josiah Kelly
I may have been a bit edgy yes but this was my point, it's kinda like saying: "Hey did you hear about this story bro?" "No i haven't, tell me about it." "Na."
Josiah Collins
i told you i wasnt him
also, this post confirmed him for a faggot
Elijah Wilson
forgot
Andrew Turner
K, I'll upload the first single off my album as a clyp...and if you've heard it, cool. If not, welcome to my music.
Caleb Powell
b-b-but user! that's filesharing, what will the label say?!
Cooper Ortiz
It's already released? You can go buy it if you like it...Plus, I'm kind of on my own label in a way, so it doesn't matter.
Christian Williams
thanks for calling me a faggot - really boosts the self esteem.
Not something I would listen to but it's obviously not crap
Christopher Mitchell
as soon as the drums came in, i was expecting "WE WILL WE WILL ROCK YOU!"
Joseph Roberts
It's mixed well and all that jazz but other than that, there's not a lot going on imo.
Owen Davis
Sounds professional alright. I wish it would build towards the bassline and drums in the beginning. The way it is they are kind of jarring for a second.
Bentley Moore
Bumping this plz.
Gabriel Mitchell
I'll take all these as slight compliments... thnx I guess...
Isaiah Flores
its not at "made it" level, the kick doesn't cut through the mix, the chord progression goes to common places, its too "epic", african chants at "1:09" lol wut 1:33 shit coming in decision, ueeeuu ueeeu badly mixed, kick is thin, track structure is just repeating 1:50 of material, most of which is intro and drop and rebuildup 2 times, don't make me start at the filtered uneqd drums in the second drop
its good but surely not at the level he sold it
Gabriel Edwards
Not trying to win a grammy, it's not perfection in a track. However, I like how it sounds all the way through, and didn't spend 2 years just fucking around on a second album for nothing...I sell music that I can perform, and what I hope my fans like...
Josiah Edwards
nothing of what i said would mean you cant perform it, is just little considerations that would polish it at the level in which is ok for you to you come to prod and denigrate us cause you work with mariah carey
Christian Hall
I respect what your doing for being able to make a living? out of doing what you do but it just sounds very mediocre. Like if i wanted to listen to this type of music, i could go listen to someone else; you're not innovating or bringing anything new to the table. I just get the gut wrenching feeling of boredom listening to it. I dunno how you're able to take pride in making this kind of music without trying to push the boundaries of the genre. I'm sorry if this seems a little harsh but it's getting all wound up the wrong way.
Jaxon Rogers
I said the singer on my second single, sang with Mariah Carey in a top 10 hit.
My first album many considered supremely ground breaking, so I took a step back and thought, "let's make an album Henry likes, but fans could still love too". I take great pride in every note I produce. If someone thinks it's mediocre, so be it. The song has 72 dislikes and 4500 likes, so I assume it's not going to badly to people who listened to it on my youtube.
Christopher Lopez
Is there any good standalone player software for slowing down a song/ repeating sections of it? I'd like to try transcribing and analyzing some stuff.
I'd do it in my DAW but Reason isn't great at this sort of thing. I guess I'm looking for something that will change speed without affecting pitch, like a grain sampler.
I've heard of one called riffstation but its not free, and sounds pretty grainy IMO.
aphex twin is making a thing that sounds pretty cool >Every sound in a population of initially random patches is sent and auditioned via sysex midi messages, sampled and checked for similarity using MFCC (Mel-frequency cepstral coefficients) analysis. The best patches are chosen to form the next generation using the sysex patch data as genetic material, converging (most of the time) on similar sounds.
>Unlike a neural network or machine learning algorithms, the artificial evolution does not need to model the underlying parameter space – i.e. how the synth internally functions to create sound. Midimutant can therefore be used on any synthesizer with a documented sysex dump format.
Colton Collins
No, I'm Henry. I meant I wanted to make an album that I'd enjoy myself. I don't make music to please others. I make music for myself.
Thomas Ward
>clyp.it/5lvlcdic sounds pretty triumphant. I think you should title it "made it".
Samuel Adams
is ducke ok? can he walk like that?
Carson Gray
Maybe I'm just dumb (well, yes) but audacity's normal playback speed control just pitches everything down.
I'll browse through the effects drop down, maybe I've missed something obvious lol...
Angel Bennett
You don't sound like a very humble person. Who the fuck openly says that their first album was groundbreaking. I highly doubt it was. Judging how good your music is based on how many likes it has is fucking stupid. I'd say most people don't sit down and take a really good look at it cause if they did, they'd see that its a well produced piece of rubbish. Most people are gonna play it and go "wow what a banger xD xD".
Alexander Davis
maybe there's no way to do it in audacity. i know reaper can do it, and ableton live
Evan Parker
ducke is very happeh and quite ambulatory.
Bentley Clark
that sounds really self absorbed
Benjamin Wilson
>when he's actually autistic
Nathan Taylor
im starting to feel weird about this, im gonna exit the thread before i break him, he sounds like he is living his drem, i don't want to kill that bird
Jeremiah Harris
I'm incredibly humble actually, and consider all the compliments from critics I got for VOID extremely gratifying. I just don't appreciate my hard work being called "rubbish". I don't judge how good my music is based off likes, I judge how people feel about it based off that. How else are you meant to get feedback from thousands of people? It's a good indicator to see if your music is going in the right direction with your fan base. If people don't like my music, great. I produce to make myself happy, and it's nice when what I'm producing is also being welcomed by followers.
Adrian Ward
>I just don't appreciate my hard work being called "rubbish". what the fuck did you expect
Luke Bell
nevermind, I'm just dumb. Audacity is obviously the only tool you ever need.....
The tempo change algorithm sounds quite good, if a little grainy. I know ableton's tempo adjustment sounds really smooth but i dun haev.
Samuel Bailey
>Should I go for the Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol S88
i feel like it needs another instrument part or some sound fx but im not sure what and where to put it.
Bentley Peterson
Honestly you people think in strawman dualities, for you is either conforming to what fans want or doing shit for yourself, it nevers occurs to you that music could actively seek to cure someone or to lick their ears, its like: prostitution or masturbation, have no concept of loving sex
Carter Thompson
Well, its not like I have any fans anyway so...
Jaxson Young
But what I'm saying is, I don't care if people don't like my music, as long as I do. I know my music has given lots of fun to the people who come to my tours and the festivals I play. It's rewarding. If what I make isn't conforming to what my fans want, then that's okay too. I'm happy with what I sell.
Robert Sanchez
That's the beauty of making pop edm, people eat that shit up.
Why does my signal drop near/below 0 on my phase correlation meter only when the amplitude drops? Do you ever sacrifice mono-compatibility in favour of a wide mix? How common are mono systems really?
Easton Sanders
I was just ranting, im just sick of people wanting to express themselves and thinking that having their own little autistic world is good
>But what I'm saying is, I don't care if people don't like my music, as long as I do. Well im saying this is like jacking off
>I know my music has given lots of fun to the people who come to my tours and the festivals I play. It's rewarding. This is them watching you jackoff
>If what I make isn't conforming to what my fans want, then that's okay too. I'm happy with what I sell. This is like a camwhore saying she feels free jacking off on cam and not doing anything her viewers want, she feels free and good with being a camwhore, doesn't need porn or prostitution.
I think besides jacking off to your synths and doing whatever people wants you can also engage in a relationship with the listener in which you seek to dominate it
Grayson Carter
Ipad for prod anyone? Friend has an air 2 i could get.
Robert Foster
No he isn't, that's as full a piano as you can do with midi without spending another $4000 for slightly weightier keys. If he's good at piano he could make cool pieces without even thinking, quick edit them in his daw, he's a winner
Connor Adams
reaper has a scrubbing tool which works really well otherwise you could probably get the job done with any DJ program out there.
for that price and that size its a damn shame they didnt add more pots, sliders, and other controls to it.
Joseph Nelson
got this on twitter this morning from a fan - I actually think my fans think positively of me...so I'll just leave it at that. No point arguing over what producers should think of making music for their fan bases. Do it for the love of music at the end of the day...
Charles Nguyen
I get where you're coming from, but I dunno, I just feel like music has to be a sort of self expression, or else it is just soulless pop or commercial edm. I think the difference between self- absorbed autistic noise and actually good expressive music lies in the standards which the artist sets for himself. I'm reminded of this quote from based Ira.
"Nobody tells this to people who are beginners, I wish someone told me. All of us who do creative work, we get into it because we have good taste. But there is this gap. For the first couple years you make stuff, it’s just not that good. It’s trying to be good, it has potential, but it’s not. But your taste, the thing that got you into the game, is still killer. And your taste is why your work disappoints you. A lot of people never get past this phase, they quit. Most people I know who do interesting, creative work went through years of this. We know our work doesn’t have this special thing that we want it to have. We all go through this. And if you are just starting out or you are still in this phase, you gotta know its normal and the most important thing you can do is do a lot of work. Put yourself on a deadline so that every week you will finish one story. It is only by going through a volume of work that you will close that gap, and your work will be as good as your ambitions. And I took longer to figure out how to do this than anyone I’ve ever met. It’s gonna take awhile. It’s normal to take awhile. You’ve just gotta fight your way through"
