On September 2, 2001, Adult Swim was born, kicking off with a lineup of Home Movies, The Brak Show, Sealab 2021, Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law, Space Ghost Coast to Coast, and Cowboy Bebop.
Feel free to about when you were first introduced to AS, favorite memories you have of AS, favorite/least favorite shows, thoughts on current AS, what you predict Adult Swim will do today to celebrate, all that jazz....
Also, Bill Oakley (Mission Hill creator) and Angus Oblong (The Oblongs creator) will both be doing AMAs in the Adult Swim subreddit if anyone is interested in that.
I completely forgot that Futurama used to be on Adult Swim. Where has the time gone?
Brayden Cooper
>people are now nostalgic for when futurama aired on adult wim
Luis Adams
I miss the "pools closing, adults swim only" commercials/ bumpers.
Original content made it great, but mainstream content made it money. The one good thing is that every do often something beautiful will come along, like "too many cooks".
Jose Roberts
Adult Swim should have closed down 10 years ago
Lucas Barnes
So Home Movies is airing again starting next week
Benjamin Brooks
it shouldn't have closed down, just put more emphasis on high budget and anime licenses and original cartoons
Ryan Jones
>you will never have that comfy feeling of coming home after work, sparking a bowl, and catching Sealab and Cowboy Bebop on Adult Swim
I remember watching the first broadcast. They advertised it sporadically on Cartoon Network but they didn't really say what Adult Swim was or what they would be showing. My 6th grade mind thought it would be mild softcore porn like late night HBO, but it just turned out to be a bunch of animated shows that I didn't understand at the time. I like Cowboy Bebop though. Their April Fools day prank with dubbed in farts and mustaches was pretty funny. Airing The Room in back-to-back years was great too.
I don't like how it has just become the Seth Macfarlane syndication block now. Then need original shows and make more than 10 Venture Bros episodes every five years.

Why not do ama here?
Liam Mitchell
Okay, I will. Bill Oakley here, ask me anything.
Leo Long
Neither is Family Guy
Blake Stewart

Luke Martin
I mean adult swim doesn't air Futurama
Kevin Stewart
they used to
it's the only reason the show ever really caught on
Cowboy Beepdiboop is overrated garbage and only good for the setting
Christian Rodriguez
2004-2009 or so, I have a VHS from 2005 to prove it

Sounds pretty dope

This was their best show.

Connor King
>not caring when it's replaced by something even worse
Noah Miller
can we all agree that when these 2 episodes come on. We find something else to do for 30 mins?
I always hated this show and will never understand how it still keeps getting new seasons.
Brody Walker
It can't even do parodies right. Remember the TF2 one?
Nolan Gray
It doesn't really bother me. I like stop motion and it's broken up into super brief segments so nothing bad lasts long
Squidbillies and ATHF are the ones I always turn off. Just gross annoying shows
Luke Evans
I thought it was OK when I was a kid and it first started but it's obnoxiously bad looking back
William Cruz
Ya it was shit after we left highschool
Liam Richardson
>What went wrong? The shift to live-action and increased reliance on syndicated shows. >Where did it peak? Well that's your opinion, but I'd say 2007.
Easton Ross
this
a lot stuff peaked around mid 2007 and then quickly dropped off
Leo White
I used to love it in high school but I can't watch it all now. But those are two of their best shows. I hated Squidbillies when I was younger but I've grown to love it.
Ethan Baker
Adult Swim is trash, the only good thing they have done recently is MDE:WP and they fucked that up big time. I hope as part of tonight's celebration they hang Eric Andre
Sebastian White
I swear, Adult Swim's weeknight schedule has been hot garbage since 2010/2011. Literally just all FOX reruns then Double Robot Chicken at midnight and either double Aqua Teen and Squidbillies or Metalocalypse and Superjail afterwards. That's it. It's
Nathan Cruz
awful
Joseph Bennett
Oh shit. Josh Weinstein is in there too.
Christopher Lewis
your underage is showing
Carter Gonzalez
nice meme
Thomas Lee
Dad is still the greatest.
Ayden Murphy
adult swim never came close to topping that patrician lineup
Benjamin Ward
it went to shit when it went live action, it doesnt matter when you graduated
Nathaniel Hill
The thing about Adult Swim is even when they started going downhill post-2007 when most of their new originals were live action, they still kept room for the classic shows on the lineup and only aired family guy 5 nights a week and one or two episodes at that.
Now the FOX reruns vastly outweigh the originals airing and they rarely show ones from before 2010 except for more mainstream stuff like aqua teen or robot chicken.
It's a fucking miracle that they'll be showing home movies again, but that probably won't last long.
Nathaniel Walker

They won't hurt your feelings over there
Joshua Kelly
Reminder that the Boston Bomb Scare was literally the changing point in quality for Adult Swim, thanks to the fallout from it. If anyone is to blame for AS's decreasing quality...it's everyone in Boston.
>Eric Andre's season premiere at midnight several weeks ago was given a TV-PG-L rating instead of TV-MA-LS
>The new Eric Andre episode that should have aired at midnight tonight has been replaced by a repeat of the exact same episode that mistakenly got a TV-PG-L rating
>The first show to ever air on Adult Swim was Home Movies "Director's Cut" episode rated TV-PG-L
>Adult Swim is known for doing unannounced things at midnight like their yearly April Fool's Prank
Am I on to something here? Could Adult Swim do an unannounced airing of their first night's lineup come midnight?
Eli Ramirez
were the adult swim executives always a bunch of old out of touch assholes like what we saw on world peace? These people have established a channel on fox reruns when it used to be known for its groundbreaking original content. pretty fucking sad and pathetic. i hope it dies
Xavier Cox
you underage piece of trash. kys faggt.
James Lopez
It was good background noise to my early and mid teenage late nights playing runescape and WoW
Angel Wright
where were you when the terrorists won?
Jaxson Martinez
This was so funny

I really just miss the old bumps. What really threw me off was when they started doing the text bumps. My dad even walked in once and asked "You're just watching words?"
Josiah Rivera

Are we crashing this plane or what?
Jacob Gray
59th post best post
Adrian Murphy
AS peaked right as Harry Goz died.
Then they peaked again at the ATHF movie.
Then peaked again at the end of Frisky Dingo S02.
They haven't hit that high since.
William Howard
I miss XRA, but Eric Andre is by far my favorite and MDE has been pretty funny so far.
Charles Sanchez
are you still friends with brian posehn?
Sebastian Gomez
Yea i hate the weeknight line ups.
nothing but King of the Hill, All 3 Seth McFarline shows, Robot chicken, and other shows I've seen a million times.
Why can't they let some anime come back or make some more OC¿
I confess... I like Eric Andre too.
Asher Mitchell
LOL WHO READS ANYMORE FAGGOT GET A GIRLFRIEND LOL

AS is the one long standing thing that I really got in on the ground floor of. I started watching it right when it started, and always knew what was going on with it. Seeing Bebop for the first time was great, and I was at the perfect age as well to see FLCL for the first time. I will say though that the turning point for me was when they started to abandon anime for the most part. I still watch it today for MDE.
Julian Parker
>15 years >only good show they've ever done is World Peace Sad
Hunter Roberts
Was celebrating their birthday a part of his plan?
Samuel Williams
My first time watching Adult Swim was me watching the first episode of Aqua Teen Hunger Force, way back in 2001.
Shake powers...activate!
Chase Brooks
>too many cooks This was the plebbest of those shorts, the salad mixer one was prime kino
Cooper James
My earliest memories are of ATHF, Bebop, and of course the precursor Space Ghost.

>tfw you will never go to imaginary swimcon as inuyasha and dance with all these qt and average anime girls
I hope this is true for the sheer fact that MDE fans and Sam shills would get pissed.
Lucas Scott
>and Cowboy Bebop
FIRST TIME SEEING MY SUBBED INTERNET ANIMUS ON THE AMERICAN TELEVISION
Lucas Kelly
I watched it from the very beginning. Man did they have a good lineup back then. Brak was a bit weaker than the rest, but not bad. God I miss some of those shows, and the swimming.
I don't even remember when exactly I stopped watching. What's the lineup these days? More live action garbage and XD so randumb bullshit?
I'm happy to discover animation domination or whatever exists on FX. Doesn't get mentioned much even though it trumps Adult Swim.
Luis Clark
Karma is a muddafugga hahahahaha hahahahhaahahahahaha
Matthew Thompson
i think it's pretty clear they're not showing new eps tonight. don't know why we'd get pissed :)
even the AS website schedule shows only reruns of EA and MDE
Cooper Jones
I wouldn't be too shocked if a lot of fans just automatically assume there's a new episode tonight without checking
Colton Bailey
>not knowing SGC2C was on in the late 90's
Elijah Fisher
he said "kicking off with" not "introducing"
Xavier Clark
All those shows except Bebop had previously aired on US tv prior to Adult Swim's launch
Julian Hughes
This made me hate stop motion animation. It's probably the most unfunny garbage in history.
Thomas Harris
>What's the lineup these days? More live action garbage and XD so randumb bullshit? 8 hours of FOX reruns a night, double Robot Chicken, double Aqua Teen, double Squidbillies, Eric Andre and World Peace on Fridays, Home Movies at 4 AM Eastern/1 AM Pacific starting next week.
Evan Diaz
adult swim was just an hour on fridays back pre y2k, like after 9 pm. good times were had when it went to a formal line up
no youre wrong. >brak show com on kid, it was a SGC2C spin off
Aaron Gray
The only good bits anymore are when they manage to get decent anime (not the big 3), or the random years Rick and Morty are airing. That is the only new show that has come out since about 2010 worth anything.
Alexander Brown
Uh... no. Home Movies had aired on UPN in 1999, Sealab, Aqua Teen, and Brak all had stealth premieres in December 2000, and Space Ghost of course had been airing on Cartoon Network since 94.
Ryan Morgan
Most on here wont remember the pre toonami and adult swim days of the early to mid 90's.
even if it was only on the weekends. these shows were the best of times for me.
