video game music can be great, it's the games themselves that are garbage.
You probably don't even know the type of music on most Persona games is Acid Jazz.
The engrish lyrics from the early games sounds retarded.
WE ARE LIVING OUR LIIIIIIIIIIIVES
ABOUND WITH SO MUCH INFORMATION
4 was better
DREAMRESS DORM
TICKING CROCK
I WARK AWAY
FROM A SOUNDRESS ROOM
It's always Japanese games with good music
Western games suck dick (in everything else as well)
Is there any non vidya music that sounds like this?
I don't mean any fedora tipping symphonic metal trash, I mean "scary" Baroque stuff that's heavy.
If you removed the vocals from a Moi Dix Mois song it would sound like that.

A RIVER IN A DRYYY LAND
But seriously, video game music is just alright and only rarely phenomenal. It's either usually attached to a garbage ass game or the songs themselves really aren't that special.
NieR's OST is god tier, though.

There are all kinds of good vidya soundtracks out there. Indie game OSTs are the most exciting to me; Undertale, Hotline Miami 1&2, Super Meat Boy, Shovel Knight, Fez, and many more are all great
This OST is perfect for the hype it creates in-game

>hotline miami
my dude
I want to play this game again to be with Makoto one more time but it's so long and draining
seeing as I'm on the weeb capital of the internet, pretty easily
that anons wrong though western games are pretty fun so long as you don't care about the story and just want something fun
this is one of the only game OSTs that stands up as a legitimately great example of its genre completely independent of the source material
Final Fantasy music is pretty guud
One of the best vidya I've ever played and also with a perfect OST that combines perfectly with the dark, scary and gothic environment of the game.

also this
I actually did know that it's Acid Jazz, and it's actually just P5, P1 and P2 had a very generic soundtrack (doesn't mean it was bad) that was in line with previous SMT titles, the Persona titles didn't start getting a unique identity until P3.
And P3 nor P4 are acid jazz, P3 is almost entirely hip hop and R&B and P4 is mostly pop with some alternative tendencies
Metroid Prime OST is one of the greatest 2000s electronic albums
Do you have a DL link? Never played it but I'm curious.
Pretty sure you'll get it just by searching download metroid prime OST.
I personally like MP2 more youtube.com
d.
Only Persona 5 has acid jazz, don't try to be a smartass without knowing your facts.
And yeah the engrish is kind of off-putting. I just realized a few days ago that Last Surprise has a lot of words from previous phrases sticking out to the next ones, like there's a part that says "you its not quite what you foretold" and it turns out the "you" actually belongs to the previous phrase, "all around you"
Bloodborne ost doesn't work outside the game.
I am shap shifter
LIVE AND LEARN
No one says video game music is bad, but if it makes up more than half your library you're a pleb.
videogames still have the best chiptune music available
youtube.com
and you can find some good ambience there

Not that guy you're quoting, but out of the two main producers of video games, the Japanese are far more experimental in what they do. America plays it way too safe with the Hollywood style orchestras in almost every AAA game they come out with, where as Japan will go fucking bonkers with some crazy orchestral tripfunk fusion soundtrack, they'll dabble in haunting background vocals as part of the melody etc.
One of my all time favourite OSTs from a series is Armored Core. From Software fucking blows my mind with every game.

Anyone listen to this? Noisia composed the entire soundtrack
hell yea
youtube.com
my man, that OST is solid. the thing is that unlike a lot of vidya-composers soichi terada does have a career in music outside just game soundtracks
Is this, dare I say it, sonically kino?

>Nascent requiem
Am I the only one who actually hates that track? It's amazing up until 1:12 mark, after that the song takes an immediate dive to the lowest point of what someone could consider "quality", it honestly feels as if the composers simply DROPPED the song at that point and let some assistant or janitor "finish it"
or maybe they composed it around the fact the devs intended you to beat the final boss in 25 seconds
Best track in the OST for me: youtube.com
>vidya music thread
>no mention of Nier
goddamn plebs, every one of you

Nobody's posted Amon tobin yet?
youtube.com
this is still the absolute GOAT final boss theme imo, the slow build-up is great and I was lucky enough to match the climax of the fight with the climax of the song perfectly on my first try through and I almost literally came
Whatever happened to the autarch? Did he run out of video game music to upload?
>Chaos Theory has the best soundtrack
>It was also the last good Splinter Cell
Really fires my almonds.
Also, does anybody like singing in completely fictional languages? I love that shit. Former is entirely made up, the latter is a complete mixture of Finnish and Japanese to create a new language.

The perfect combination of memorable yet ambient.
I'll probably get flak for it, but classic sonic has some amazing jams and are easily the best soundtracks for the genesis.
I recently found out that sonic CD's JP OST is on spotify and probably the best ost for any sonic game. some highlights:

Machinarium has some great ambience in the OST with its strange kinda soundscape, using analoguey sounds to match the very european-feeling robot city that the game takes place in.
Portal 2 has some good tracks , though they do work a lot better in game.
There's some energetic glitchy tracks:

As well as a lot of philip glass-esque tracks:

Good in the context of the game, completely unremarkable otherwise
this is the only soundtrack I ever relisten to

Shit soundtrack for teenagers
Speaking of MGS

Saber's Edge is top tier but this is the best track desu.
If it's anything like the other persona soundtracks, it's garbage.
>muh shitty j-pop is good
this will probably sound autistic as fuck but does anyone ever dub video game intros over with other music to see how it fits? I did this with the P4 intro and was pleasantly surprised
youdubber.com
The guitar and kazoo covers were better
>western videogame music is ba-
IT AIN'T ME
My NIGGA
Machinarium is such a delightful, sweet little game, the art and music direction is fucking fantastic. Very good taste, I never see it talked about. I still need to buckle down and finish Samorost 3, which has the same great art and music that Amanita Studios does with their games
He's not wrong.
Western games outside of a few titles like Halo have been really trash with their music.
Most of the time they just try to poorly imitate movie soundtracks meanwhile Japan and the indie scene tends to experiment more.
You'd have to be trying REAL fucking hard to ruin vietnam in any media.
Literally this entire series has a god tier soundtrack
youtube.com
Try to come up with a more original OST.
Dearly Beloved is one of if not the best compositions in all of the game medium
At least post a Persona game with good music, like IS or P4.
VTMB has a phenomenal soundtrack

hyper light drifter OST needs some more love.
