For those of you that work in IT or have a tech job, are you worried about what will happen with net neutrality? My current major is cybersecurity and I am getting anxious about whether or not I should change majors because of this shit. So for those working in IT or a related field, are you worried?

bump

BUMP

no
you dumb motherfucker
try thinking for youself

Not worried. IT wil continue for businesses and consumer. There will be work.

If you really think the government has your best interest at heart, you should def switch majors, perhaps to women's studies.

I work as an internet specialist and I am extremly worried.
The government doesnt seem to understand that some of us cant afford to see every movie on in the cinema or buy every game that comes out. This will ruin the lower and middle class and the upper class wont even notice.

>internet specialist
lmfao

Meme specialist

...

Giving government more control of the internet? What could go wrong? /s

I'm a meme specialist and I'm deeply offended. Don't use my profession as an insult.

>jobless retard detected

Never thought that they did. I just don't want to start a degree that will lead me to nowhere. Also not a woman.

You truly believe that?

Might as well Trump enter the Matrix.

HN?

how about giving you more control of the government? Government is not a bogeyman from space, it always serves someone's interests

So just let Big Cable tell us what we can and cannot do on the Interwebs? Fuck that. We're not the Norks.

there was no enforced "net neutrality" prior to 2015

so the internet will be like it was before 2015.

[citation needed]

You will have a job. This takes the internet closer to the though-police idea. Government will declare certain things "fake news" that's actually real news covered up. NN will bring gov't censorship of ideas.

I hope you're right, user. Because I could switch majors right over the phone. Study something neutral like business. And let everyone have a panic attack about this bullshit.

Lol you sound retarded.

>ad hominem attack without any argument or debate

Sure it isn't you?

Private sector/business will need your skill set.
People are panicking about a fake story of someone's 1's and 0's being throttled when there is no evidence any of that has ever happened (with the exception of BitTorrent streams back in the day).

You've got a point there, user. Thank you.

i rly doub this gone pass
now the thing is this law is not against the normal ppl
it pins corporations vs corporations
and by the fuss that is making im sure there is big money on both sides
there were laws that restricted internet and litterly nobody gave 2 cents
you guys realise that laws that ppl protested against like 2-3 years ago eventually passed in both us and eu but nothing rly changed

>jobless
that's your future
not my present
if you think the govt's idea of "net neutrality" (how much did it cost to coin that spin phrase?)- and whether it passes or not will affect your IT marketability, you're a fucking moron.

My marketability is pretty fucking high because upon graduation, it would be on the cusp of an election year and that cheeto in chief would be getting voted out.

nah user is correct
OP is either a baiting moron or a moron moron with zero business in any IT field

But what business do you have telling a cybersecurity major that he's a moron? What are you? What did you study if anything? Memes?

relevance? zero
fucking moron confirmed again
learn to argue

Aww spotted the samefag. Shut up, faggot.

all the /business
gtfo moron

Christ you are dumber than a bag of nigger fetuses

You wanna know why this bothers me? Because Trump's FCC head is some fucking poo in loo bastard who thinks he understands the Internet. Just some idiot that was appointed to the commission. Like every idiot he picked.

Again with the samefagging. You think I can't check that shit?

fucking moron
pay some special interest group to coin a phrase that describes your desperate flailing serial linguistic failures

You obviously fucking cant, hammerhead

learn to law
learn to IT
learn to learn

Pay your mother to take you to a specialist and get tested for autism, you legitimate fucking retard.

Goddamn why does Sup Forums know honestly nothing about anything?

lol sad cunt
you don't know what "net neutrality" is. you don't know IT. you don't know how govt works. you don't know how business works. kys

not that worried - if anything will just make more people flock to VPN/tor services right?

Of course there was net neutrality before 2015. It was enforced by the marketplace. The problem is not net neutrality amerifucks. So don`t support a 500+ page long document of legislation you arent going to read.

The problem is equal possibility to take positions in the ISP market. Have you heard of the small town where the locals wanted to get fiber and the ISP didnt provide? They tried to make their own ISP. Guess what this ISP bought their local politicians and made their digging illegal.

Your crony-capitalism is the disease. free markets are the solution.

The ISP was Comcast. Whom you also gave a shit ton of tax money to for upgrades of the internet because of their monopolistic position.

get baited harder you sorry ignorant shitstain

not /b
you
ya sorry twit

>hurr you don't know what "net neutrality" is
the principle that Internet service providers should enable access to all content and applications regardless of the source, and without favoring or blocking particular products or websites.

>don't know how government works
Big Cable wants to be like Big Pharma and so on and so forth. I wasn't born yesterday, summerfag

>don't know how business works
That's why I studied it for years. Studied finance, real estate, and business. How about you?

I'm Irish, you faggot. Might wanna grow up and meet the age requirements for being here.

This.

>Trump's FCC head is some fucking poo in loo bastard
-proving you're an armchair warrior, mindless parrot
-compensating for your lack of education with infantile assumptions about those you know nothing about; concepts you cannot grasp

>can't greentext properly
kys preteen fuckboy. I agree with OP.

-your stated understanding:
WOW
you're lost, little girl

ever made law?
no, you haven't

ever conceive of and create entire cc settlement/processing system that processes billions of trans/day?
no

stfu you fucking pretend shill

keep trying
you couldn't sniff my dev logs, cunt

>reddit spacing

Kill yourself, bro.

your best is pathos
good luck in the job mkt
better pray someone with actual knowledge experience doesn't interview you

Sure are a lot of ISP shills in this thread. Or fucktards. Lemme break it down for ya bitches.

1. The government already created a duopoly when the internet first started becoming a thing. This change won't give the government any less control than they've already had, it will just allow ISPs to dick you over more.
2. It won't pit companies against each other, it will just cement the ones who already have big pockets. By creating a 'fast lane' (which anyone with any networking experience will tell you already exists and everyone is using it) and charging for it, startup sites will have less of a chance to compete with larger sites. For example, someone creates a better youtube or facebook. Like, far better. Everything you've ever wanted from both sites is included in the new ones. But the site owners can't afford not to have their service throttled (that's how 'fast lanes' are made, by slowing everyone else down) so those sites are slower to load up than Facebook and YouTube. So it's a death blow for small online business.
3. Before 2015 Comcast and Verizon were already trying this shit out on Netflix. That's what led to Net Neutrality in the first place. Pic very fucking related.
4. The government already controls the Internet's infrastructure and contracts it out to ISPs. Changing from title 2 to title 1 won't change that. All it will do is allow your ISP to sell what info they gather on you (to the government btw) and allow your ISP to throttle connection speeds until somebody pays them not to. Then they unthrottle that somebody.
5. Comcast, Time Warner, Verizon, and CenturyLink do not compete with each other. They didn't before 2015, they haven't started now, and they won't start ever. They are a duopoly, meaning they don't try to harm each other's business

Wake the fuck up. Don't listen to the corporate shills saying it's gonna be okay. They're looking to bone you just as much as the government is. Hell, they'd like to BE the government.

This is all the evidence I need

Nigger, speak fucking English

How recent is that?

>Lemme break it down for ya bitches
user post narrative attempt laden with assumptions, subjective interpretations, false constructs. speaking "your language" to try to get rapport. you're the shill.

Trumptards can't handle it.

understand english better

tl;dr

Don't support the FCC here. They've got a literal shill for a leader.

proclaim those self-proclaimed proclamations

>He thinks large corporations have our interests at heart more than our elected officials who ultimately answer to us.

>tl;dr
yes don't read- fuck don't even think- just parrot.

>Giving government more control of the internet?
You have a simpletons understanding of what net neutrality is.

I understand English very well unlike you who likely has it as your second language.

I'm thinking of buying the Ultimate Internet package. I know the best ways to skirt the 22GB cap. That's the best value. Don't be fooled by the "custom internet" economy package. You need preferred or better in order to mimic that old "unlimited" feel.

>subjective interpretations
>assumptions
>rapport

Lame attempt at deflection. Shill spotted.

Fuckkkk

>He thinks the gov't has our best interests at heart and won't do anything remotely resembling corruption, censorship or mishandling.
user your naive ideas about govt evince your lack of meaningful participation in govt

Shit, I've got unlimited 4G LTE with my cell provider. If FiOs wants to be dicks, they can and I'll just use my fucking phone.

>Cyber Security major
I'm a Computer Science major and I'm double majoring in Cyber Security. Don't worry OP, if you watch the news everyday you will be rest assured that Cyber Security related jobs are going to be needed. In 2016 there was over 1 million jobs related to cyber security(according to forbes), and there arent enough bodies to fill them. Just look at the election news that won't go away. "Russian Hackers" wether you choose to beileve it or not, people will want to defend agaisnt that kind of shit. That's job security, my nigga. It's also becoming more evident that the DoD may open a new branch in the military for Cyber defense, or even if they don't there are jobs in the Navy, Air Force, and DoD for that shit that they need people.

Source: I've written numerous papers on this shit for uni, and have looked at the info a lot.

prove it- read simple english for comprehension- end your failed red herring language beef.

>thinking our government does corrupt things for corruptions sake and not because some rich asshole donated to their campaign

Lower middle class (even some middle class) are screwed if this becomes more common. Thing is, in the long run does this benefit ISPs?

Check 'em btw.

Don't change majors but be sure to focus on application development regardless of what your end focus is in infosec.

I imagine the new act of passed will harm the average consume first leaving business level services untouched. After a few years ISPs will offer an expensive plan that will offer the previously untouched service and pitch a somewhat filtered service under the premise of better data management.

This is to get more money out of larger company's as they may be too big to adapt and pitch data management and security to small and mid ranges company's who may not have the budget to address these issues.

Honestly the biggest problem I see with it is the lack of competition we currently have.
In my are there's maybe one or two ISP's.
This would basically screw over small towns and rural areas by giving those ISP's a monopoly.

It's not about "government control".

It's about keeping the internet as it has been and as it should be. The reason we are here now. If giant corporations get their way, it's going to be like(Obviously quite believable scenario)

Guys if you go to Verizons Fios website their plans make no mention of accessing certain webpages. That picture is something that could happen but it isn't how they're doing it now.

Finally someone who knows what the fuck they're talking about. Where are you studying CyberSec at? I'm on the East Coast. Would probably have to move closer to D.C. or MD once I finish.

>corruption
your ideas about corruption seem rather stunted.
you should try making law.
you prove time and again that you know nothing about govt corruption.

Your grammar is absolutely fucking atrocious.

>This would basically screw over small towns and rural areas by giving those ISP's a monopoly.
They already do. By law, the internet provider for an area is whomever owns the cable lines. You won't see two providers for the same area unless it's a different type of line like fiber optic.

This is their wet fucking dream.
Treating your internet like a cellular data plan.

Are you being intentionally dense or does it come naturally?

Yep.

Typical American dumbass

Kek

>He thinks the cell phone companies don't use regular internet and won't cancel your unlimited plans.

Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. What I'm planning to do is joining after uni, become an officer in the navy under cyber security, get a ton of military experience, and go to a private sector like a PMC and make a 6 figure salary easy.

Yeah come on guys

I've got T-Mobile. Let them try, faggot.

Yes. Internet is rapidly becoming (if not already is) an actual utility like power or water. There are jobs that you absolutely cannot apply for without Internet access.

People need the internet. They will pay for it just like they pay for power or phone service.

Ahh. I'm at WilmU in Delaware. I was also thinking of going the officer route. Would probably go Navy since my grandfather was high up in the Navy and my uncle was a Marine.

>impying its not already happening?
You do know they throttle the internet when you have unlimited data right? To prevent you from using too much so they alow it down. You may get some pages that are fast but others are really slow.

>finally
you fucks couldn't parse responses for accuracy if your tendies depended on it.
>studying cyber security
maybe- but i hope you realize that one doesn't simply "study cyber security" at some tech school and become a IT security expert. IT sec is a multidisciplinary profession that requires several lines of education and experience.

Right, I'm aware of that as well as many others are. If I needed to use my data and my phone as a hotspot for my laptop, I could with no problem. I rarely ever use my data unless I'm away from a wifi hotspot.

It's a no brainer as to how mandatory internet access is. It should be a public fucking utility. I dislike the gummint as much as anyone but Comcast and Verizon getting their way? Fuck that. They're worse.

your efforts at misdirection are pathetic

Well, junior, I am studying Computer and Network Security. It's a real thing. You clearly know nothing of what you're talking about. I'm not at a tech school either. I'm at a private, non-profit doctoral research institution. Sorry to burst your cum bubble, queer.
