Embrace of the Serpent

So who was the chullachaqui?

I'm so glad you watched this. One of the best movies since 2010, IMO.

The chullachaqui, figuratively speaking, is anyone who doesn't respect the song of any people who have lived. In this case, it would be the white man before he is enlightened by ayahuasca.

What about old Karamakate? He forgot his people's song and required the white man to guide him.

Chiquititolaque
Xatamalaverguita

Lol

das rite da white man be da debil n shiet

Old Karamakate, although he did not remember everything, did slowly regain his memories and never lost his emotion (at the very least, he continuously felt loneliness and sadness).

Young Karamakate never said anything about emotions when describing the chullachaqui. He only said that it has no memories and wanders the world like a ghost, very much like old Karamakate before he met Evans.

He described it as "empty, like a ghost," so it's reasonable to assume he also meant there's no emotion to it. You're free to make the connection between the chullachaqui and old Karamakate, but I find it diaphanous at best; it's more of a case of negative capability, IMO.

Regardless, it's a layered, brilliant movie, and I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Kino as hell.

Reminded me of Werner Herzog.

I think that whole conversation between Theo and him about the photography is telling and prescient of how Karamakate becomes a chullachaqui himself. Theo shows him his picture and calls it a memory that has passed to which Karamakate says that the chullachaqui too has no memory. Therefore once Karamakate burns the yakruna and when the last of his tribe presumably all die in the attack, he too becomes a memory that has passed and becomes a ghost who wanders in the jungle without a people or a song.
Further when Evans first meets old Karamakate, the first words to him are asking whether he can see him, almost as if he's surprised that someone else can see him as a person and not, presumably, as a ghost that he has been wandering around for the last few decades or so. A few minutes later, old Karamakate says that "his name was Karamakate" so it's clear that the current shaman doesn't consider himself the same person who encountered Theo and Manduca. Then we find out that he's angry at himself for having forgotten the knowledge of his people. Here it can be argued that he's not really a chullachaqui since he seeks to pass on what little can be preserved through Evans, but it's clear that in between leaving Theo and meeting Evans he really was a hollow shell of his former self, being a memory that had passed.

the trip scene was frankly underwhelming. i was expecting 2001 level psychodelic shit.

should i've seen it while high?

That's cool and all, man, but it's also not exactly the deepest layer of the movie—there are more pertinent themes.

Like what? The perverse fusion of Western and native religion? That the jungle can leave a permanent mark on your entire consciousness? That you must respect it and follow your intuition instead of rationality?

I think you're looking for a beer-and-peanuts discussion, which I'm not really trying to have at 1 in the morning. But I'm glad you enjoyed the movie and are able to appreciate its many talking points. Since you enjoyed Embrace so much, I recommend watching The Great Beauty; that's another one of my post-2010 favorites.

Seems like you don't want discussion because you just want to say vague shit to appear smart without actually typing down an original thought

You're free to believe what you want. Have a good night, user.

Sleep tight pseudo-intellectual

Not just yet. Gotta jerk off first! Hopefully I can find some porn with a thoughtful storyline.

How many are there with a story AND pertinent themes that you can't really spell out because they're so complex?

Quite a few. Especially the deep-rooted European stuff, e.g. Legalporno.

>deep-rooted European stuff
Just say Blacked

Not quite what I had in mind, but to each his own.

>COHIUANO'D

Pretty sure there's a negative correlation between dick size and affinity for caapi.

You would know that, chullachaqui

I must be the only chullachaqui in the world who can get a boner.

So since you're not really going to bed or masturbating would you mind elaborating on those other deeper, pertinent themes in the movie?

I understand that you're desperate for conversation (whether to delude yourself into thinking you're the smartest guy posting on Sup Forums or for another reason), but I'm really only here for the banter (woefully inadequate) and salt (exceedingly rich) and autism (purest concentration I've come across). If you'd like to continue to do that, I can continue slow-stroking and taking breaks every 30 seconds.

Honestly, I probably would've spared the time to have a genuine discussion with you if you didn't come across as such a miserable twat.

Nice cop out, I'll give you that. Do you use this same routine in front of your parents to explain your continued presence? "I'm just here for bants and autism but you guys aren't cooking tendies for me reeeeee...."

That was awful. Do yourself a favor and become less cynical and hostile—you'll enjoy life more.

At least I'm not condescendingly vague about my pronouncements or projection of intelligence :^)

Happy for you, pal! I definitely wouldn't want anyone to be "condescendingly vague about his project of intelligence" (have you ever considered writing a book?). I hear that's rock bottom.

projection*

I hope you'll be there to dodge questions about the pertinent themes of my book while giving an urgent case of masturbation as your excuse :D

Probably. It's a chronic condition. :D

Have you tried blowing smoke up your dickhole?

Oh yeah, all the time. Highly recommended.

Do you have a personal Karamakate or just a Manduca? Does he wear a rubber?

Speaking of projections, keep your fantasies to yourself. I understand that adolescence is a time of sexual discovery, so I'll let it slide this time.

>defending rubber barons
Die, white imperialist chullachaqui priest scientist piggu gaijin

You're running on mental fumes, son. So I'm gonna bust a nut and hit the hay. You should read over this conversation. Study it. Do better next time.

Cheers.

I'll send you an essay on its pertinent themes.

I'm waiting for this movie since forever. Where did you guys watched it?

in your room

Clever. Now answer the question

Do you know what a torrent is?

That's all I needed. Thanks
