HMS Queen Elizabeth II is due to enter full service in 2018. Thing is you meant have a point if it was the STOL F-35 but we scrapped that because the catapults cost too much so are reverting to the gimped VTOL F-35. The original reason for scrapping our Naval Harriers is they weren't STOL compatible, so scrapping them was fucking pointless

The F-35 can dogfight just fine. It has the maneuverability of the F-18 combined with the acceleration of the F-16, with range favorably comparable against the F-14 and the stealth of the F-22. It is one hell of a plane, I'll tell you that much.
that's what the f-100 and f-105 pilots thought. They didn't fly so good.
The F-105 was a bomber. You wouldn't really expect it to do well against fighters.
