Fellow Britfag here. I live about 20 miles away from the town with the literal highest % of teen pregnancies in Europe, and one of the lowest average incomes per household.
Here's why redistribution of wealth is dumb, and I'll keep it simple and short.
A. Bums getting money. 45% of workers in Britain for example are low working class. This means they make on average 21k a year per household with both parents working, and a single parent with the ridiculous amount of benefits will amass around 19k. If they got redistributed wealth, they'd get money for existing rather than earning their keep, which is unfair by definition.
B. The top 1% need their money. Think of it like this, if the top 1% don't have their money, jobs won't be created, and this is a fact. The more money a business makes the more money people in the business makes. Look at the credit crunch when everyone became poor because this was altered.
C. "The government could control the companies." Then what If they have bad relations? We trade very few things with Russia for example, as they don't really like Western society as a whole. However Royles Royce and companies like that still trade with Russia, as Russia despise the governing bodies rather than that of the individual civilian.
D. It's literally theft to redistribute money. If I flipped burgers in McDonalds and made £7 an hour and you redistributed wealth, and suddenly I made £270 an hour, matching the CEO who's been to 15 meetings in 7 different companies that week and had done bucket loads of paperwork, going home stressed every night worrying about the next day, while I went out with the lads and got pissed, itd be very unfair, wouldn't it?

Honestly, you'd need at least 30-50k to start a business, and 9/10 business startups fail utterly within the first 2 years in the USA (and the vast majority of them are restaurants and gift shops). So you'd need to create a safety buffer to protect the business long enough that it could operate long enough to overcome potential crib-death or a lack of imagination.
So let's make it $120k, since that's not a TERRIBLE amount of money to throw at a new, niche enterprise. How many people could we divide that 500 billion into $120k for?
About 4 million people. For the sake of starting businesses with a strong potential of failure, we are taking 500 billion from people who are "too rich" to make 4 million people just slightly wealthy enough to maybe make a self-sustaining business which would in all likelihood employ between 1 and 10 people in the next 5 years (since the odds of explosive growth and commensurate hiring within the first decade are very very low).
If only half of them fail instead of 9/10, that's a 500 billion expense to create maybe 10 million jobs of questionable sustainability.
