Until Hillary is forced to go out more often she's mostly just a lump. And lumps can poll well but collapse real quick when the campaigning gets serious - as seen several times over the course of the Republican primaries.

All establishment figures which Trump excels against. Trump does so well because he's an "extreme moderate," a walking contradiction due to his mix of left and right wing views. Against opponents like Cruz and Bernie Trump struggles somewhat because he can't match their extreme views while coming under fire for his opposing ones (which is why cruzlims clung onto the "true conservative" argument). However, against "moderate" opponents (like Jeb!, Rubio, and eventually Clinton) Trump can effectively attack them from both the left and the right.
The strength of these attacks means that money isn't an issue. The millions spent trying to prop up Rubio and Jeb! demonstrate this; at the end of the day they're still easy moderates for Trump to dominate.

That would be a smart move, but the DNCe (similar to the GOPe) is not a smart, cohesive organism. It is a multifaceted organization with various subgroups vying for control. This year the Hillary camp grabbed it by the balls and demanded absolute obedience, and they will not relinquish it even if the Hildebeast is coughing up blood by the 3rd debate.
And ultimately it'll be pretty good for everyone involved. The Clintons will lose the GE along with their grip on the DNC, Trump will have 4 years of free reign, and we might even see a decent alternative get propped up in the next cycle.
