Find a number that fits between 0.999... and 1

Find a number that fits between 0.999... and 1.

PRO TIP: You can't.

Littarly infinte can be between there.

>Littarly infinte can be between there.

Bullshit. Infinite is not a number.

Littarly infinte can be between there.

Infinite amount of numbers dense fuck. :)

>Littarly infinte can be between there.

Not, literally IT CAN'T, dumbass. That's why 0.999... is 1.

All right

0.999

.9.5

>Find a number that fits between 0.999... and 1.
0.9991

If your trigger level is 10 and you submit your 9.9 recurring, what's going to happen?
Will the trigger activate?

>All right
>0.999Was that so hard?

x doesn't exist.

0.9999....+10^(-infinite)=9

0.AAA... in hexadecimal

Until you find what x represents, yes it does you chucklefuck

>/b doing math

.999... repeating isn't really a number, more of a concept.

Really when you introduce infinity into the equation you can "prove" all kinds of bullshit, you've got to take these things with a grain of salt

the pic shows its .9 repeating dumbass

Learn to read. The line on top means something important.

I can't believe people are stupid enough to think they know enough to argue with this post.

>pic related

This isn't science it's math. Jack ass. Animal. Nigger. Arrogant dipshit vomiting ignorance while cackling stupidity.

You are the offspring of headstrong and inbred.

.99910
/thread

This isn't philosophy it's math. .9 recurring is totally a number and your ass is full of semen.

it's an equation without a solution. You fuckchuckle

...

Now _that_ is the only quality response in this thread so far.

What happen when divide by 0?????????

Omg. Learn to read.

.99910 is NOT between .99999.... and 1 idiot.

...

What the fuck are you talking about? There are no unknowns so it doesn't need a "solution".

you have successfully made up a variable that represents a number that does not exist
congratulations

Your mom becomes a meth whore.

/thread

this isn't a valid proof, but it might be enough to highlight the concept

1/3 = 0.33333...
(both sides times 3)
1 = 0.99999...

(the real proof makes use of something called infinite series and convergence of said [geometric] series)

Well 0.FFF... might work

0.9995

...

How is that a troll? Previous post is laughably wrong.

Don't mistake mockery for bait.

Muh dick fits in there OP, good enough for you?

Omg.

Jew detected

you're retarded. Changing the base doesn't change the number, and 0.FFF = (0.4095)10 and it's still

OP stops being a faggot

kek

So we have to find a number x, where x is bigger than 0.999... but smaller than 1. However, since 0.999... can be arranged as an infinite series that converges to 1.
Conclusion: x doesn't exist, and thus there is no number between 0.999... and 1. It essentially means that 0.999... has the same qualities as 1, which is what the equal sign indicates.

I'm a middle aged former math teacher and this thread makes me want to move to a cabin on a hill and await the inevitable moment the millennials blow up the entire fucking planet with their ADHD arrogant stupidity.

You literally didn't say anything.

Smoke less weed and go outside.

1/3 = .333...
2/3 = .666...
1/3 + 2/3 = 1 = .999...

"[T]he trigger activat[ing]" kinda implies a physical event of some sort. An infinitely repeating decimal is a mathematical abstraction. It's not clear how it should translate.

Related: this problem is just Zeno's dichotomy paradox with 9/10 instead of 1/2.

You're almost as skilled a mathematician as pic related.

The ellipsis is a lot like saying "+10^(infinite)" already, really.

Best answer ITT tbh fam

So you're saying the answer is i? I'm quoting you on that.

0.9991

0.F is closer to 1 than 0.9, so 0.F > 0.9, so I assume 0.FFF... > 0.999... (at least "greater or equal")

Underrated post

Math cucks detected

How about this?

0

Nah I was wrong with 0.AAA... but 0.FFF... should be between 0.999... and 1

there is always a number between 0.999.. and 1, because you can always add another decimal

0

0, zero, nill

wasted trips
found the twelve year-old

back to your xbox live

>Literally impossible

Most relevant answer I think I've ever heard to that question

>Faggots wasting time trying to prove they're smart on a fucking imageboard.

You do realize you're talking to people you've never actually seen before?

Do you also realize there's a board for this shit?

back to /sci/

By following these steps, you get your answer.
(.999...+1)/2
The answer is the number in between.

In before "you have to type out the actual number..." no I dont, because you starting fucking around with infinite numbers to begin with.
I would then hold you to the same standard of typing out the entire math problem. Don't tell me 0.999 repeating, show me.

>Don't tell me 0.999 repeating, show me.

0.9.. := sum(k=1 to infinity) 9*10^(-k)
(i.e. 0.9 + 0.009 + ...)

there you go negro

Oh shit, well if we're using variables, someone else answered this already...
sum(k=1 to infinity)
9*10^(-k)< x < 1
X is your number.

Your move, cockfag.

do you really want to know or are you just retarded?

all these faggots trying to outsmart the concept of infinity
it's saddening really

no it's not you fucktard

>en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geometric_series
>en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Convergent_series

ITT:
>what is convergence
>what is infinity
>I pretend I understood infinity but reject the concept of convergence

x = 0.999...
x - 0.1x = 0.9
0.9x = 0.9
x = 1

cantor would be proud

0.999... = 1. There is no between
