It's a manga that's been running for 20+ years now, and it's pretty incredible. One of the things that's most interesting about it, is that the author has basically reinvented himself in his style several times throughout the series, while still keeping it true to its roots. During the first 10 volumes (referred to collectively as the "Golden Age" arc), it's basically gritty 80s style manga of purely dark medieval warfare, becoming borderlined historical fiction. but in volumes 11-12+ literally hell opens up and pours itself onto earth evil dead style but in a completely serious manner. Over the next ~5 volumes you have every bit of bad in his world corrupted and risen to full blown demonic rape-fests; corrupt priests burning everyone at the stake, packs of roving goblins kidnapping women, raping and impregnating them to make more monsters, an evil god-emporer who tries to take over the world etc. It then turns into a traditional swords/sorcery fantasy where Guts assembles a team of rag-tag heroes to destroy the five God Hands of hell, one of whom was his best friend and rival during the Golden Age.

Gave up on Berserk
>Fuck the artist/writer/publishers

Great stories, but if I'm to wait for the end of the current story arc, I'll be entering into retirement age. I'm only 21.

Not worth getting sucked into that world, ever again.

It's a little bit of suffering waiting for each new chapter, best to forget about it for a few years at a time then pick it up and read a few new chapters.

Sounds fun.

My day sucked. Don't want to talk about it if you don't mind. Maybe later.

This is a good battle. It's too short.

...

Bummer to hear that, I'll be around for a little while if you want.

Agreed, I liked Mozgus and his Torturers, they were well designed.

...

oh weird i hardly seen any of veserk before i always wondered why he had just the one armored arm/gauntlet didn't know he had a rockman buster cannon

...

...

Yup, just on the one hand.
He gets it around Volume 14-15 IIRC, right after the Eclipe.

holy shit i loved this arc, thanks for letting me remember user!

Is that Travis the Moonstar?

Glad you enjoy it user! This is my favorite arc.

Bump

yep it is :^)

I really should probably try to see it from the start. I never thought much about beserk till I found out dark souls aesthetics were heavily based off it, just the way the world looked and everything was fucking staggering to me. Use to play that game obsessively even though I died pretty constantly.

End of Chapter 162 and end of dump for tonight

Grazie

Cheers

I'm the opposite, and I really need to play it soon. Planning to do so with a friend soon.
I'd recommend going through Berserk, it's a pretty great story, I think if you enjoyed DS you should have a lot of fun with Berserk.

>even though I died pretty constantly.
Sounds about right

Goodnight friendo. This whole healthy thing sucks eggs.

Maybe a little at first, but it's worth it.
Once you get into it, it's just habit.

Ganbare

>I'm the opposite, and I really need to play it soon
don't force it. if you're not digging it don't torture yourself with it. A lot of my problems was being too stubborn, started as a bandit and only wanted to go through the game with light armor and a huge axe, could never get a good axe drop like Goat Demons Axe. Game is meant to be played with magic. Either sorcerer (still had a bit of trouble once in a while doing stuff but mostly did super great with sorcerery) faith for miracles, which seem really cool in theory but doesn't really help out in play ever really is just slightly better than going through as pure melee. pyromancy not quite as good as sorcery but it's there incase you're stuck as a dumb melee user with bad stats kind of freebie to make the game a lot more do-able for when you inevitably get stuck.

I feel like I'd go for the dumb melee route and just want to run around bashing things.
I think since I'm going through it with a friend who's done it before, should be a lot smoother.
Will take advice into mind, thanks.

melee is fine some people can beat the game at soul level one, personally I think the game is way better in offline mode the multiplayer is kind of a drag. Plus if ever trying to play solo people just want to gank 2 on 1 for faction points so the pvp is pretty trash since people treat it like a job instead of a game.

Noted.
I guess I'll probably branch out beyond melee. I tend to avoid mage in games since it's more complicated and I don't want to have to think.
I'm pretty set on multiplayer since it's something we've been planning to do for a while.
I might do a little solo at times, depends how engrossed I get.

Surprisingly mage is honestly way less complicated. It took me so much time learning my way around but let's just say there are a few areas around firelink you can reach right from the start. If you start with socerer you'll get a staff to cast, and like 30 soul arrows. Then under the shrine a guy sells a second set of soul arrows so a few levels with attunement stat and you get like 60 soul arrows. If you're losing a fight just pull out staff and start spamming the things. Even if your intelligence stat is low or the things are really resistant to magic you can plink the things non stop and the cast time is really quick it will just widdle down anything and you can save some of your estus for the melee fights. I went way overboard and maxed out my int, got a halberd and enchanted it. My soul arrows pretty much killed most everything in one hit so I'd hide behind the shield and halbred most of the time and just use magic as a last resort to keep it interesting.

>game is meant to be played with magic

Not even close. Magic is completely broken and overpowered. Just don't be garbage in melee and learn to space/dodge and you'll understand why people feel action RPG combat is ruined for them after playing Souls

Don't get me wrong I really at first loved darksouls action. Until it got to pvp or wanting to try to use some of the shit weapons that otherwise seem really cool looking but shit stats. Once you get to pvp you start noticing evne more in the PVE that the spacing is glitched hits don't always count as hits, dodge doesn't count as dodge. It was a great idea, and pretty okay in execution, but often a little too frustrating stuff like poise was the only thing that mattered in pvp because the first one that gets their guard broke gets critical hit with a backstab. Most people would just avoid melee entirely or run away right away unless they got a poise guard break really quickly.
The pve its alright as long as you figure out really quickly that for the first game you're suppose to use something like a fire or lightening enchantment on your weapon, anything with regular physical damage is simply trash and the amount of time to boost your soul level for the relevant stat just never catches up to an elemental unless you play 24/7 for like a week and do nothing but farming nearly the whole time.

Intredasting, looks like I'll have a lot of options and freedom when it comes my turn.

I've never played an action RPG and probably never will after DS, so I'm okay with that.
