Guys I have a problem that doesn't necessitate a thread, and it's a carry-over from Sup Forums. The example I used was Latin and shitposting about the Latin union was the best thread I could fine
I don't know, every other language just feels backwards to me
It's really hard to explain learning other languages as well. All I'm doing is translating into English.
Latin, for instance. I understand what femina is. I know that it's a first declension word, and that it is in the nominative case. However, the only reason why I know it's femina is because I translated it into English. I don't associate femina with a woman, I associate it with an English word that comes to mean woman.
As far as I know, understanding a language isn't from translation, it's just from somehow understanding it. The fact that I can read all of this in less than a minute, and write it all fluently, understanding every letter of every word I'm about to type, that's understanding it. When writing Latin and taking forever just to go through all the declensions, cases, genders, etc, it doesn't feel like I get it on the same level I should English
When would I start to truly understand a language, the same way I do my native one?
