288 right?

48/ 2(9 + 3)
Brackets first
48/ 2(12)
Division because it's first in the equation
24(12)
Then multiply
288

so it's 36 right?

48*2(9+3)
48*2(12)
24(12)
36

my working out

pemdas motherfuckers

Here come the high school dropouts who can't do basic math in 3...2...1...

p.s.
I used * which is multipy, dumb mistake

2! I'm betting my asshole on this!

>24•12

Kill yourself

24(12)

you should multiply this, not add

I added instead multiplied, I honestly forgot about that rule.

Multiplication and division take the same level of precedence left to right, same with addition and subtraction. This is true for all of the various acronyms for the order of operations, which you would have learned if you paid attention or didn't go to a third rate public school.

PEMDAS

48/2(9+3) = ?
48/2(12) = ?
24(12) = ?
24*12 = 264

264

4 you retards

48*6=288

PEMDAS doesn't care if you do multiplication or division first, or addition or subtraction first. It puts them on even terms and you just solve left to right.

my bad

It's 288.

it's 2 retards

Anyone who does not get 2 should not have graduated the fifth grade.

2304 obviously. Anyone who doesnt get how to get to that answer can be considered as normalfag.

peMdas
multiply first

Sorry you're stupid. Did Mom drink or drug during pregnancy?

THANK YOU! Now I can leave this faggot website. Later, losers. I'mma bang about forty hoes and be all CHADlike.

0.5

dont you have to get rid of the brackets first?

or do you just go from
>48/2(12)
to
>48/2*12
?

...

PEMDAS. Multiplication before division.

>pemdas
pe(md)(as)
or
pe(dm)(sa)

You should have paid attention in school, or you're a britbong. For some reason they don't math properly.

Why did you divide before you multiplied? Is it PEDMAS? No faggot, it is not.

i'm confused what needs to be solved first

>48/2(12)

do you solve the right side first so that you get
>48/2(12)
>48/24
>2

or do you divide first so that you get
>48/2(12)
>24(12)
>288

Multiplication and division have the same priority. You are supposed to do them from left to right.

People still don't know this?

Multiplication and Division, like Addition and Subraction, were interchangeable under PEMDAS depending upon which one came first in the equation.

Also, everyone arguing this point: try googling. It'll tell you straight up that is the case.

These threads are interesting because its people looking for self gratification

in school (canada) we were taught BEDMAS
brackets, exponents, division, multiplication, add, subtract

>wasting time explaining to 90 IQ retards on Sup Forums the correct solution to an elementary math problem

Agreed. PEMDAS newbs.
Means you need to get rid of the Parens before Mult or Div.
48 / 2 ( 9+3 ) =
48 / 2 ( 12 ) =
At this point you need to kill those Parens BEFORE anything else. order of Operations...
48 / 24 =
Answer = 2. Period.

>With this interpretation 1/2x is equal to (1/2)x.[1][8] However, in some of the academic literature, multiplication denoted by juxtaposition (also known as implied multiplication) is interpreted as having higher precedence than division, so that 1/2x equals 1/(2x), not (1/2)x. For example, the manuscript submission instructions for the Physical Review journals state that multiplication is of higher precedence than division with a slash,[9] and this is also the convention observed in prominent physics textbooks such as the Course of Theoretical Physics by Landau and Lifshitz and the Feynman Lectures on Physics

48/2(9+3)

2(9+3) = 2*9 + 2*3 = 18 + 6 = 24

48/24 = 2.

Math major here, this one is pretty easy:

48 / 2(9+3)
= 48 / 2(12)
= 48 / 212
= 0,2264150943396 (repeating)

Does my key get my access to that forum?

well, pretty simple — answer is B

Then what's the point of pemdas? If it doesn't tell you the order why don't the teach it as pedmas or pemdsa or any other variant

Obvious troll is obvious

These threads are literally cancer. In a well defined operation multiplication and division order do not affect the outcome.
This question is ambiguously defined and has more then one possible outcome. All of you should just kill yourselves.
Sage.

PEMDAS - Parenthesis > Exponents > Multiplication = Division > Addition = Subtraction, and the equation is always read from left to right

keep this thread alive.

The equation is written ambiguously, thus there are two possible outcomes, 288 or 2, based upon the desired convention of which there is no universally agreed upon standard. Calculators resolve equations one way or the other according to the solving algorithm they operate with:

48
-------- = 2
2(9+3)

or

48
-------- * (9+3)
2

Just by looking, the issue becomes self-evident. Neither option is wrong all thanks to the ambiguity of the original equation. Rather, the solution should be teaching people how to articulate mathematical problems clearly, and how to recognize ambiguous equations so useless debates like these do not happen.

Take it from someone with an IQ of 152.

Interesting.
