People seem to think things when to shit after 9/11 but I think things from Late 2001-2006 were still fantastic. It was 2007 with the iPhone, Great Recession, social media, Facebook, Twitter, and Reddit booming in traffic, the fucking Big Bang Theory, etc. where things truly went downhill.
Back in the 2000's it was great, but that shit don't age well.

In Canada early 00s music was mostly either indie rock (arcade fire, broken social scene, the new pornographers), punk pop (sum 41, avril lavigne) and the biggest cringe movement here was post grunge (nickelback).
