Eskimo is the GOAT

I hated Meet The for being a half-assed amalgamation of all the avant-sounds from a decade before, but did they get better over time? What should I hear next?

UNMASKING WHEN

Never.

I wonder if The Residents are actually cute girls.

How do you guys feel about their vocals? I like their instrumentals for the most part but I can't stand that kind of goofy vocals that can be found in experimental music of the 60's and 70's

damn right
btw Ghost of Hope turned out great
Have you seen them live lately?

Just to ask some Resident fans - how do you like my stuff? - sincerely interested

The only Residents album I enjoyed was Not Available. I just don't like non-music avant sounds

Anyone got some kind of Residents flowchart? Been meaning to check them out for a while now.

Not Available is the only album ive heard by them and I really liked it. Any recommendations for where to look next?

Eskimo

maybe give demons dance alone a listen that is by far the catchiest album

I still love Gingerbread Man a lot

Well, they've been releasing albums since the 1970's so in no way could the be considered girls.
They might be middle-aged women, tho.

Used to Eskimo on white vinyl.
Probably worth a fortume, now. :(

Here some stuff to get into their stuff

Coochie Brake
Intermission
Our finest Flowers
and Ghost of Hope

wow thats a lot
but happy listening!

Took me some time to get used to the vocals but I started to tolerate them after listening to Not Available multiple times.

I was never bothered by the vocals, but I like dumb shit like Primus.

Not as much as their earlier releases, about $40
Recently got this original pressing costed a fortune

Ayy thanks alot man, I'll check them all out :)

commercial album is still good

Yeah it's catchy as fuck. Eskimo, God in Three Persons and Commercial Album are my favourite Residents albums. In that order.

What are their deep cuts that I've missed which are actually pretty good?

I feel like No. I is a bit empty. Those two would probably be better if they were combined into a larger track.

tfw Fingerprince never gets mentioned in these threads

bump

The Residents are not good and are for posers. They absolutely have no substance to their albums and just style. No merit to their albums.

Eskimo makes me weep.

reminder that pretty much everything after Big Bubble is terrible (with the exception of Hades)

I wrote a paper on the residents a year ago and my prof told me he saw the residents backstage, maskless, and had a beer with them

Vocals are the best part

what about God in Three Persons?

It's been so hot and humid recently, in spite of the rain that's flooding the northern suburbs.

I should probably play Eskimo, since it's the perfect album for this kind of weather.

It's like a tropical rain forest in my little part of the world.

The only person to even bring up their new album just advertises his own shit and posts "avatars"

thx for the feedback. Appreciate it

Enjoy!

Whats your problem whit the Ghost of Hope?
I think its a lot better then most of their Randy,Chuck and Bob-Stuff

does anyone else think it's weird that andy partridge is on the commercial album

No my problem is with you, this board and the world.

Got to be honest - that sounds pretty bad.
Need a hug?

Can you recommend a good live record of their early stuff?

youtube.com/watch?v=h_KgRMLUTuk

Why should it be? But can you recommend anything any XTC
stuff? Wanted to check them out forever

It's one of the only cameos on a Residents album that I can think of, at least for someone of relative note

Can't beat Skylarking honestly, but if you're less into Beatles pastiche and more into dissonant rock you may want to start with Black Sea.

makes sense - although
I always counted Penn Jillette as an ongoing (non-musical) cameo.
and thx for the recs - will check them out!

still depressed that I haven't seen cube-E live.
footage looks awesome

You're welcome. In actuality the Residents and XTC aren't terribly dissimilar in theory. Andy's songwriting approach is very abstract and textural like a lot of the Residents' music is.

Not Available is much more accessible and "musical" than Meet the Residents, so try that. Both are amazing albums, though.

Now I'm hyped. What abou the other Ralph-Artists e.g. Renaldo and The Loaf?
Great videos an all -
but I only like The Elbow is Taboo

Never heard any of them actually, sorry.

avant-garde

Used to listen to them religiously, been to 2 live shows. Good lads

what the fuck? where?
