reliable is a relative word here. the first generation super soakers were made of really cheap plastic and they often snapped or developed permanent leaks.

It's possible we had 2nd gens. All I know is the 50 is the only super soaker that survived 5 kids and a large dog. The bottle still has dog bite marks but screws in and doesn't leak.
The water pistols and 100, 150 etc died within weeks.
