yikes
It's Tales from Topographic Oceans. Don't believe these plebian lies.
King Crimson
Caravan
Soft Machine
Mars Volta
Yes. Red Queen to Gryphon Three is on all the good Sup Forums Prog charts.
One rarely sees much prog rock in those personal chart threads, yet there seems to be quite a few Sup Forums posters who listen to such music going by this very kind of threads.
Ok there are a lot of bands that I have never even heard off lol
None of them
>Yes
>The Mars Volta
>Jethro Tull
Kinda always wanted to start a prog rock band with bossa nova, Modest Mouse-like indie and some light shoegaze influences, but when I was still in high school my band ended up being more shoegaze ska (guitarrist really liked ska and shoegaze and the drummer was just a really really solid drummer - I did do some experimentation but never really took it far). It was weird.
>What is their best album?
Close to the Edge.
Does Zappa count as prog?
>shoegaze ska
Holy shit I have to hear this.
Relayer and Close To The Edge.
>I was listening to CTTE now and it is ok I guess.
Listen to it more than one time, senpai.
We didn't actually get any recordings done. That said, it was pretty much just ska rhythms played through a pretty simple sequence (reverb to fuzz to distortion) that we fucked around until we found the right sound. It was quite enjoyable.
That said, I pretty much didn't really manage to contribute as much as I'd like to, and being the only member of the band that really liked prog my contributions were mainly in ways of fucking with the groove (like having a song start on the second beat of a 4/4, which created a nice sensation of being in an odd time signature while really just being 4/4).
they suck they sound like a parody of genesis
No. You're thinking of Van Der Graaf Shitorater.
Dance Gavin Dance tbdesu
Fragile, Close to the Edge would be really close if it wasn't made of 3 tracks, what kinda makes Fragile are the interludes.
in what fucking world are you living that van der graaf sounds anything like genesis
Giving them the Yikes with the most bland taste in prog ever, yikes.
Yikes
If we're counting Krautrock it's CAN, King Crimson, and Pink Floyd
if we're not it's probably King Crimson, Pink Floyd, and Yes
Not a million years
Chill out guys
Prog is benevolent and fun
And quit it with this "sporkcore" shit
I feel like asking people what are their favorite prog bands is will only lead to the same answers. (Yes, Van Der Graaf Generator, Genesis, Gentle Giant, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Caravan, etc.)
Since it's the only active prog thread can we post obscure gems in here also? I'll post what I usually post in hope someone will show me something I don't know.

Not with those shitty solo pieces.

Anyone else love Rush and this album
What albums of theirs have you heard? How the fuck is Animals and Live at Pompeii pop?
Their best album. Cygnus X1 is a masterpiece for sure
Actually pretty disappointed with it given I listened to it right after A Farewell To Kings.

My dad never lets me forget this
>Lasers everywhere
>Everything smells like weed
>Smoke fills the stadium

>random washing machines appear on stage
Also I assume you know the intro to 2112 is a guitar cover of the 1812 overture
Soft Machine
Henry Cow
The Mars Volta
Most other prog just sounds are like hard rock/folk rock with long wank sections or try way too hard to be whacky/goofy/different.
>grimes
How the fuck is Grimes pop rock?
As much as I like prog, if there's a genre that's a posterboy for the 80's stereotyped image of what nerds were, it's that one.
That must've been fucking incredible, the washing machine part sounds hilarious
Rush
Focus
Maybe The Alan Parsons Project as well.
Yes
Nektar
Battles
Pink Floyd
anybody have some good prog with psych influences or vise versa?
