There are 250 million American adults who would receive this money, that is just 250 billion dollar per month or 3 trillion dollar per year. This money can be paid out by simply printing money.
The advantages of a universal basic income are A. no more economic crime, B. only those people work who really want to work, and C. no more poverty.
The only way this works is if you create an underclass such that only the most basic of needs are met with this kind of cash. Decent housing especially, but clothing and restaurants also become out of reach.
Note that this is exactly what the market does when you go down this route, look at Denmark or Norway and compare people living off of state benefits to those with a decent job. Sure, you can do live on the dole... but you are really just eeking an existance and are completely outclassed by your fellow man.

Fuck off with this stupid meme. I'm tired of retarded STEM majors who have never studied economics to come in and say "hur hur technology will take away jobs mass unemployment durrr." This boogeyman has been spouted since the industrial revolution. Surprise surprise, new technological advances actually CREATES newer industries and allows society to focus on different things. Employment and work isn't even the endgame, production is a means to an end, not an end itself. Even if we actually don't need to work what's the fucking problem?
Daniel Myers
Well yeah that's a given with basic income, except for the minimum wage part (not that I disagree with getting rid of it under that scenario).

The amount of new jobs the upcoming technology/automation creates will be practically nothing compared to the amount of jobs it kills.
It will kill enough jobs to the point where there isn't enough jobs for all the people who need them. There will be a very large portion of the population unable to get a job even if they want one, this is already true to an extent.

1. A high inflation rate helps making a society more dynamic.
2. A high inflation rate fucks up those in a society which have non-real estate wealth, while it helps everyone who have nothing or only a house.
3. That is why high inflation in the past resulted in a much broader middle class, low unemployment and generally a more dynamic society.

Inflation is good. Hyperinflation is different, but controlled high inflation makes a society more dynamic. Currently, people have a static mindset. With 10%+ inflation, you essentially need to invest ALL your money into the domestic economy in order to not lose out 10% per year. Guess how many jobs that creates.
Isaac Sullivan
There really isn't any reason why we can't the only problem is that legally the government can print it's own money and instead when we do issue QE it's really just a loan from the Federal Reserve Bank. Because they are not part of the Federal government that means we can just borrow from them at interest rate that they decide for us. From there the Federal Reserve goes to the US Treasury and they approve the printing of the of money at the US mint and the Fed starts taking its interest from the tax payers, and so if we were to just starting prnting money this time for the people instead of the banks we could totally take down the dollar because the debt would be too high. Nobody seems to know though what really will happen because every crash we have ever had we don't have a normal deflationary cycle which would probably be followed by hyper inflation and game over from there. After a few years the system could maybe reset itself in certain parts of the country but they just wont do the responsible thing. Because we just keep creating bubbles to delay the problem, this time a student loan bubble it will never be fixed. I predict the next bubble they will create will be what I call the cancer bubble, where the government encourages companies to give us cancer so we can go into debt paying for the treatments.
Benjamin Thompson

what newer industry? assembly lines are increasingly automated, many more menial jobs can be easily automated with cheaper technology for example, I've been working as a security guard part time to pay for school, and some parts of my job, like patrolling a area and observing for things out of the ordinary could easily be replaced in a few years with automated drones
Dylan Carter
Basically we would just be paying the Federal Reserve in the form of taxation to pay for the people without jobs. We technically already do this through the loans we have already made with them in the past. BTW I don't really care what we do at this point, to me its been over for a very very long time.

Liam Baker
>why would anyone get off their ass to create these goods and services if they get it given to them?
Because basic income only allows you to live a very modest poor lifestyle. There will still be more than enough people willing to work for a better lifestyle.
A lot of people will want to get off their ass and work to create those goods and services, but they won't be able to find a job, no one will hire them. This is already something very common you know. What do you do when a large portion of the population is unemployed because there isn't enough jobs to go around?

Well don't forget when you remove risk of losing money either by a bank issusing a loan or some kid buying a car he can't afford really you are removing productive work and hurting true capitalism. The entire point of printing 3 trillion dollars per year is to increase inflation massively, weaken the USD, eradicate poverty and achieve full employment for a long time including creating a massively dynamic society.
