I'm having problems with pic related. it is my best pc but it has been overheating for awhile. My only idea for a solution is to get a new heatsink. but I have no money and the other pc I have has a huge heatsink that only fits itself. can you help?

I would reapply the thermal compound and buy and outtake for cheap on NewEgg

Nope. I never got into actually learning shit about computers.
Technology is bad mmkay?

>I have no money
>buy and outtake

Retard.

have you considered installing a graphics card and maybe some ram? also check that cpu fan and make sure it's actually seated onto the thing its trying to cool

Blow the case out well. Don't worry about a new heatsink. Unless you are overclocking, that should be more than sufficient. Verify that all your fans are running.

Measure it for me I'll buy it for you once I get paid next week

Measure the size of the black thing on the back, looks either 80mm or 120mm depending on what size the case is which I assume is mid

Isopropyl alcohol on the fan and heatsink, then use a plastic tool to chip off all the plasticised thermal interface material. After that, use more isopropyl to clean residue off heatsink and CPU.

Apply new thermal interface material and boot up.

Less than 10 bucks. Suck it up and get the cash.

I just need my pc to not be 120 degrees at all times. Whenever I turn it on my room gets hot

Just buy thermal paste, you dumb nigger.
>b-but I have no mone-

Do you know how fucking cheap a tube is?

Just stay off of drugs for a week and put the money elsewhere.

Try this

Either buy a new computer or
Clear all the dust out of side panels.
Clear all the dust out of the heatsink fins.
Clear all the dust out of the heatsink fan.
Clear all the dust out of the entire case.

Unseat the heatsink, wipe off thermal compound from CPU with rubbing alcohol, and apply new thermal compound (it's like 5 bucks for a tube).

Reseat the heatsink, MAKE SURE it makes full contact with the CPU itself. Screw it in entirely, you don't want to fry your CPU and mobo socket.

120F is an acceptable temperature for a CPU. A larger heat sink isn't gonna make your room any cooler. It will just more efficiently transfer the heat from your CPU into your room.

...You do realize that the electrodes, combined with the heat react with the water and eventually create mustard gases, right?

Thermodynamics dictates that no matter how many fans you add, you won't make your room cooler. In fact, more fans equates to more overall heat. Add fans to your ROOM, not your case and you will be cooler due to circulation of air.

I don't have a ruler but this is the size of it compared to my dogs head

Your post gave me stage 5 retinoblastomas.
>mfw literally autistic.

Shit man. I was feeling kinda weird lately... Thanks for telling me!

this.

>it is my best pc

user what the fuck
get rid of that shit, buy a used chromebox for less than 100$, put windows 10 on it, done

you'll save a lot in electricity in the long run too

My pc stutters when I use wordpad there is something wrong

Second this solution

Set a ice cold beer on the hot part. Replace every hour.

Wala!

I am not disputing that. My earlier post details what you NEED to do.

>Wala!
Viola! faggot

shouldn't need to replace anything if originally did cool the cpu before, except for old thermal compound. that dust looks a little brown, but not too black, is that some smoker's dust in there? tar dust especially clogs the fuck out of fans, air holes and heatsink fins. air dust the fuck outta everything air should flow though, clean the shit off the heat sink(and cpu top) with some alcohol while it's out. slap it all back together. also, if you don't care as much about that warning on case, yank the power supply, crack it open, and blast all the dust outta there too.

>Wala
>Viola
>Violin?

It's Voila, retard.

Vola looks like some straight up FBI honeypot shit.

Based on the tone of the post, I think the poster intentionally mis-wrote to underscore the stupidity of their solution.
You don't always need to jump to correct people to feel superior

Open wordpad and then Ctrl alt del. Look under processes, whatever is eating assloads of resources is your guy.

Also clear you file history.

Nah man just neutralise that shit with a deuterium solution, that'll transmute the mustard gas into harmless beta rays.

and my axe on this.
if you do not have $5 then gtfo life poor fag...

This isn't Shakespearean interpretation class, it's Sup Forums.
The poster was likely dumb enough to legitimately misspell a spelling correction.

DOH

Did you just call me a beta?

Careful - remember that sunblock did not protect Steve Irwin from harmful rays.

Ctr+shift+esc is a shortcut to open taskmanager

Picture of my fan

Sell your phone and buy a ryzen 3 ffs

Poe's law.

Occam's Razor.

why is so fucking hard for you to take a half decent picture.

Are you literally blind?

That makes a lot of sense. Thanks for clearing it up. I wondered why you would go out of your way to correct him.
Also, why does google need to know what pants look like?

Everytime it is in focus the site says the file is too large

the heatsink itself shouldn't pose any problems, but moreso what lies beneath (the paste) and/or not seated correctly. take it apart, clean it out nicely, use toothpaste and change it every few days. not kidding. I say toothpaste cause you said you're broke as shit and no money. toothpaste actually works, you just have to change it every few weeks.

customer complaint ticket: laptop overheating, running slow.

if you cant work a fucking camera how in THE FUCKING WORLD ARE YOU GOING TO BE ABLE TO FIX A SHITTY ASS OLD DIRTY PC????

YOU'RE A FUCKING IDIOT

IF YOU CAN'T WORK A GODDAMNED SIMPLE CAMERA YOU CAN'T EVEN BEGIN TO UNDERSTAND WHATS WRONG WITH YOUR PC EVER, AT ALL, AND YOU FAIL AT LIFE

thats probably what mine looks like but its a mac and theres no way im going through the trouble to fix it myself.

If it was any other laptop, could easily do it myself

Jesus christ that looks old as fuck, had to reverse image search to make sure you weren't fucking with me. That shit belongs in the trash

Take a good picture. Open it in mspaint, resize the picture to 1000 px wide, post results.

We don't need to see every single pixel on your fan, we just need to see shit clearly.

/thread

You could just go to best buy and steal the thermal compound. They deserve the loss.

Really m8 I would bite the bullet and buy a new pc. The new ones are silent and will last you 10 more years for only like 500 dollars.

now compare it to your dick

if ya smoke it's always pretty bad in there and ya can't just blow it out.but you know, you'd think it would be easy on a well designed laptop. if anything that whole area on the back should just be a panel to unscrew, but no, on that hp laptop you literally need to remove everything, keyboard, screen, everything down to the plastic case, nothing left but the power cord and usb ribbon cable left in there, you pull the whole motherboard just to clean a heatsink and fan...might as well do the paste while you're in there eh?

I'm not changing my entire life for you Bill Gaytes.

Wala is a meme to get you fags riled up.

>Protip: It worked

Could I cut the pc and put it into this body and use this big ass fan?

Don't panoramic pic a fan gay wad. I'd die if I was your PC too.

I have the same Toshiba.

didja clean the dust out?

...

...

Clean all the dust out of the fans and the grills at the front of the back. Make sure when your computer runs your box sits with ample open space in front and behind it. Place it in the airflow of your room's fan for extra effect.

But your CPU's stock cooler is a bare-minimum device, and a $25 fan on sale from monitoring slickdeals.net will making your comp cool forever, and is a much better investment than spending $10 on a full tube of thermal paste that people here are advocating, which will give only minimal improvement from one you started with, and you'll maybe use it once in 5 years and then lose it.

Also, if you had a graphics card in there that you took out for the picture, make sure all the internal cables are out of the way of the airflow in the center of the box. I suggest using masking tape or twisty ties to keep them on the sides and edges of the box until they make their connections.

...

OP's problem isn't the computer overheating. He's complaining that the computer pushes out too much heat and his room gets hot.

Also, a stock cooler is more than sufficient for a stock CPU. OP would be better off spending their 25$ on pornography from the gas station.

amazes me people like this aren't dead

is this the new gtx founders edition?

What breed of dog and some way to contact you OP

If you want to go through a bunch of effort reconnecting all the power and front-side buttons (and sometimes they have to be individually color-matched), then sure, most normal-size cases will fit most motherboard sizes unless they're company-branded like Dell, in which case you just have to drill new holes for screws. But judging by how rarely you clean your case, you don't want that hassle.

White knight af

Go to goodwill or the equivalent. You can buy good computers for like 10 bucks.

If your complaint is that the room gets hot, no amount of fans or cooling paste or liquid cooling will help. It's called conservation of energy.

Just keep your computer in sleep or shutdown as much as possible, and have your window open with a box fan (way cheaper and more efficient than AC, and also will dissipate your pc's waste heat better).

take it out back and hose it out first

JUST AIM A BIG ASS FAN YES

Old computers like that are like waking a 90 year old up on a -40 degree day. I don't suggest sleep or hibernate.

Is the monitor CRT? That's what warmed my room up.

It is safe to hose down a PC. It is important to discharge ALL capacitors and remove all batteries before doing so.

Your water may have impurities that can corrode the components or traces, so it isn't really recommended.

BIG ASS FAN

that green fan thing looks familiar. probably some kind of dell in an office under a desk for years. should try and find my old pics. best ones i have are all of the same dell, hospital bought thousands of some optiplex. many ran all day, every day, some had no internet, no updates to break things, they just did one task like manage an mri or other piece of equipment. everything around them would be cleaned regularly, but the inside of those PCs 5 or more years later would be covered with really thick white dust, probably just skin cells and fibers from scrubs and some hair.

I wonder if all the fancy early 2000s water cooling fads had a catastrophic disaster yet.

It was like pimp my PC back then.

cpu fan is on the wrong way. its suggin the heat sink not blowingit

This.
If that doesn't help reapply tim.
You might even be able to find free / junk pc's that work. If not Frankenstein a few together.

If installed correctly, there's really no reason a brand-name water-cooling system should have a disaster. It's not like it has the temperature extremes or wear conditions of a car.

And if 15 years later it does have a disaster, well after 15 years of use I'd be amazed if those computers didn't at some point have a brown-out or motherboard failure which required some component replacement, and certainly their hdds are needing replacing now.

But yeah, It'd be surprised to see a liquid-cooled system failing from 15 only years of use.

yup, that's a dell. The green fan covering and tabs give it away. Those are fucking solid suckers though, and that fan vent helps a lot with making a comp like that run smoothly even with all that dustcake.

At the time it seemed like the tubing was willy nilly shit. Home modders not professional

Enjoy it while you can while your shovingg it up hr aarse hole

Overclock?... Nigger, did you even look at the picture?

Yes, the mobo looked to be sufficiently capable, and op sounded dumb enough to overclock with a stock cooler.

reapply thermal paste. clean dust off your heat sink. Dust is an insulator. make sure fan actually spins.

Dude your computer looks ancient, like 10 years ancient. And no gpu?! No ram?! I mean forgive me for calling bollocks but you must have money as you have a camera phone. Buy a new computer and stop wasting our time!

This.
C'mon OP, surely you can scrounge up enough money for some TP and canned air.

>Buy a new computer

Or a used one off craigslist. A really great box can be got for $200, a perfectly good one for 99% of needs (except hardcore gaming) can be got for $100, and one for 96% of needs can be found for

Cables for dunmies
