Whilst you're correct with the player comparisons, England were in the group of death. Put Argentina in that group and they finish bottom too. Argentina had a really easy group and needed late goals in all of them and had an easy route. It's quite probable England would have made the final with the same schedule but that's the way the biscuit crumbles.
There is so many things wrong with that comparison. Like even the pattern of wrong things you said is wrong at aime point
