The motion of a society or civilization has always been impeded by the state. Governments do this because people demand it. Everyone wants to tell everyone else what to do, think, and how to act. So we make laws that we think will resolve a certain problem.
Take the prohibition of alcohol and the current American war on drugs as an example. Alcohol kills far more people than any illicit substance. When it was made illegal it created Al Capone. The drug war has created the drug cartels.
What does this have to do with segregation? Everything. It has to do with the liberty of the individual. People will segregate themselves according to religion, wealth, culture, etc. Government doesn't have to intervene. It has to stay out of people's lives.
People self segregate. Now bring back meritocracy. Make the playing field truly equal. The cream of each race will rise to the top while the shit will sink. Socialism is having a turd in your half and half.
If a business or any institution only wants to serve certain subgroups of people that should be their right. Let a restaurant that serves only whites in a big city compete with a restaurant that serves the best kind of customer (the kind that pays).
With individualism the forces of free market competition will distribute the resources to the most productive of society. I wouldn't mind an intelligent Christian man as a friend regardless of race.
