Anyone got info on IOTA? Good investment?

P.S. Reminder that coins aren't investments.

Bit coin sure turned out to be one

No, it didn't. It turned out to be a good speculation play if you bought and sold properly. Coins are fundamentally not investments.

I don't understand, but I'll be honest I'm a layman. If you bought bit years ago when it was cheap and sat on it, obviously the worth today would be massively increased, how is that not an investment?

Because the value only increased because more people bought into it. If you buy 1 bitcoin and just sit on it for 10 years, all you have is still just 1 bitcoin. Bitcoin does not generate revenue.

OK that makes more sense, but it's value relative to the dollar has massively increased, so that would be revenue in that currency wouldn't it?

I mean what you're saying could be said about anything couldn't it? If I buy one piece of property, or one share in a business, after 10 years I still have only one share, or one property.

ethereum is where it's at.. bitcoin is way over-bloated

go to coinbase

>so that would be revenue in that currency wouldn't it
Only if you sold it, hence speculation.
>I mean what you're saying could be said about anything couldn't it?
No.
> If I buy one piece of property, or one share in a business, after 10 years I still have only one share, or one property.
Except a share represents partial ownership in a revenue-generating business. You will either receive dividends or the dividends you would receive go back into increasing the value of the business.
Property is only an investment if you monetize it in some way (e.g. rent it out). Just buying property and sitting on it is not an investment.

I've heard that name too, but some user said IOTA is going to blow past ethereum. That user was probably full of shit for all I know, but any insight in that?

if you keep selling 10% of your coins and buy them when they're low you can a pretty ok "interest" from it

I think you and I both know that's trading and not investing.

scam people outa em or earn em by providing a service. Mining is pointless nowadays unless you got something like 14 petahurtz gpu.

I'm seeing what you're saying, but I'm still not sure how I'm wrong. Not even trying to troll, honestly.

I guess it comes down to how I'm trying to define investment.

If you only define investment as something that can make you money, then anything can be an investment. Buying a lotto ticket would be an investment if you won.

Separating things out into gambling, speculating, and investing is useful.

Alright. It seems like the majority of you guys in here are new to crypto currency.

As the one user said already, this shit is not an "investment" from the standpoint that it is all SUPER volatile. Even bitcoin whose had the longest and "most stable" run of all the coins, it's still much morenaubject to quick change than traditional stocks on the stock market.

If you guys are really interested, spend a few days (it's really gonna take some effort) to research the subject. There are many different coins and they all have many different purposes.

I have been fucking around with crypto for a few months, I have mined ethereum, made 700 bucks doing it so far. Then on a quick pump and dump coin, I made 150 more on my 700. Two days later I lost 200.

Treat this stuff like gambling. If you k ow trends to look for and study hard, you can make some money, but it's highly highly highly risky.

sure fam but in the end we all want to cash out and get money, so you can keep your definitions for the semantics dome

Go to darkweb
Download cp from one of the many cp sites
Sell that cp to people

There are many types of investments. Some produce dividends, some don't. Stock, commodities, bitcoin, property, art, bonds, etc. are all investments. Not all investments produce interest at some rate. To be properly "invested" is to diversify your portfolio across many types of investments.

guy invest in iota. its the future

it's the second largest coin by market cap. it's much more anonymous than bitcoin ever was, and has almost 0 transfer fees.

i'm not a shill. i hold some ethereum but mostly bitcoin and regret not putting it all into ethereum

*buurp*

Why do you say that? What separates it?

truth.

no one really understands why prices go up and down. it's gambling without the rules of being in a casino.

>Stock, commodities, bitcoin, property, art, bonds, etc. are all investments.
I do not agree outside out of colloquial meaning of the word. Some things are investments and others are speculation.

Yes I'm a huge fucking noob at crypto. I have traditional investments but I'm just curious about this front. Trying to decide if it's worth the plunge

iota is for retards.

don't buy small market cap coins like this. iota was down 13% since yesterday alone...

What it seems to me, and like I said already huge fucking noob, but the thing to try and identify with crypto coins is which one is going to "catch on" and have people using it. More use is more value, am I wrong?

you are a retarded faggot. iota is a long term investment. its developed for microtransactions like between machine and machine. if there are one day applications ( that will happen 100% cause industry of future based on thuch concepts) the iota go up to the moon. there are more and more big companys behind iota like bosch. sry for crappy englisch hope understand all

Yeah I did a little research on IOTA, it's a heavy gamble but seems feasible.

But that is what we are talking about here, Should user invest in bitcoin. Maybe not in the most formal of settings is bitcoin an investment, but it is here.

The reason it's not an investment is it doesn't have any intrinsic value. The price per coin is 100% supported by its market cap. An investment has some intrinsic value. When you buy a crypto, you're just betting that more people will buy in and push the price higher. This makes it a speculative asset. An investment generates value for the shareholders in other ways.
