Ask a girl in tech anything

Ask a girl in tech anything.

Who is that a drawing of?

First, no girls on the internet.

That being said, why do you pretend to be a girl on the internet. Are you actually in tech, or is that just part of your fantasy?

It s a thumbnail from a thread earlier today.

what do you do

Did anyone get the full image saved?

Front end, UX developer

Tell us the importance of inclusivity and diversity in the tech sector.

How does it feel to be the new diversity hire?

You aren't in tech. You are in graphic design, a perfectly acceptable field for women.

It looks just like my girlfriend.

whats your girlfriend's name?

As a person working in Silicon Valley, I'm getting sick of HR hiring women just for the sake of diversity and not merit. Most of the women on my team can't code for shit.

So how many qualified men were passed over so that you can have that job?

UX is a product design role, different from graphic design, although it can include those skills. If she's doing UX for tech products, then she technically works in tech. But she's not an engineer.

Tits? GTFO?

making mockups of UI in photoshop does not quality as "in tech"

Sarah.

Tits or gtfo

Why do you suck at your job and are just plain terrible to be around?

What's up with the toxicity in this thread? Don't we want more women in the tech sector?

Do you think it's fair to all your male coworkers to make them wait for you to stop "having ideas" and leave so that they can finally get some work done?

Mei from Overwatch

Of course not. Nothing would ever get done and all forward progress would screech to a grinding halt.

Can a sandwich machine make women obsolete?

No, it's that we're all aware that OP is a dude and this is Sup Forums, so we can say whatever the fuck we want, even if we don't actually believe it.

I don't care if they're women, black, muslim, asian, white. Seriously, just give me someone that can code well. Putting someone on the team just for diversity sake is garbage. It slows me down if I have to explain to them simple data structures ffs

What's up with the double standard? Expecting your co-workers to be able to code? Isn't that a bit unfair?

Jesus christ, what was I thinking setting the bar so high

UX is much more than that. It's designing how the product actually works. It's not an engineering role, but UX literally designs technology products. It's a tech role for sure.

As a side note, all of the best UX designers I know are women. If you leave that shit entirely up to your engineers, you usually end up with a sub standard product.

I guess you missed the implication...

you're an idiot.

i know plenty of programmers who do ux and front end development.

Uh huh.
Yah, so interesting.
I never thought about that.
You're right.
Go on.

Show us your tits.

Yes, but do any of them have vaginas?

Most of the UX people I've met were guys and I've worked at several big name tech companies in SV

IMO having women and people of color(PoC) gives new perspectives to UX. User Experience is a complex and diverse field, and to solve that we need diverse people.

You do know that graphic design and product design are different things right? Graphic design decides how a product looks, product design decides what the product does.

I said best not most. I've worked with a lot of women engineers too, but only one I would consider any good.

You do know that we're talking about UX design, not product design, right?

UX design is how the product feels, not what it does.

Lel. UX is turning user stories into product design. A good UX designer bases their design off customer research, they don't insert their own expectations into the process.

No adult woman will introduce herself as a "girl" in tech, are you 12 or something OP? The bait must be better next time...

what led you to changing genders?

UX designers literally tell the engineers what to make. They have more say over business rules than any other team in an organisation, restricted only by business and technical constraints. UX design is a subset of product design, but it's the bit that decides what the product is going to do, and what the business rules are.

what's it like pretending to be a grill?

No, UX designers literally tell the engineers how big to make the ok button, what color it's supposed to be.

I get that you're a UX designer, and you gotta defend your trade, but I'm an engineer, and UI is the simplest part of product design from my perspective.

That's cool OP

I'm a senior UX/front end contractor on a large well known product. I'm currently running a team of 4. We iterate over features and conduct research then build/test on users continuously.

The best UX/front end females I've worked with don't give a fuck about gender equality. It's a myth, people get hired on the contents of their character and skills not if they have a pussy or are a nigger.

Why should I care and can you show me your tits?

What about the fact that women get paid less for doing the same job?

If this were true, there would be more women in the workplace, as it would make sense economically to hire workers who you can pay less.

I'm not OP, and I'm not a UX designer. I'm a security consultant. But the fact that you think that UX designers just make the UI kinda proves that you don't know what you're talking about. Graphic designers and front end devs make the UI. UX designers design the product and define the requirements for the engineers, the graphic designers, and the front end devs.

Can you link me a job role that says

Salary: $100,000 (75k for woman)

If I can pontificate for a bit, for your edification, one of the rules of the Internet is "there are no girls on the Internet".

This rule does not mean what you think it means. In real life, people like you for being a girl. They want to fuck you, so they pay attention to you and they pretend what you have to say is interesting, or smart or clever. On the Internet, we don't have the chance to fuck you. This means the advantage of being a "girl" does not exist. You don't get a bonus to conversation just because I'd like to put my cock in you.

When you make a post like "hurr durr, I'm a girl" you are begging for attention. The only reason to post it is because you want your girl-advantage back, because you are too vapid and too stupid to do or say anything interesting without it. You are forgetting the rules, there are no girls on the Internet.

The one exception to this rule, the one way you can get your "girlness" back on the Internet, is to post your tits. This is, and should be, degrading for you, an admission that the only interesting thing about you is your naked body.

tl;dr: tits with timestamp or GTFO

Wow, so interesting.

Security question, I'm thinking of getting into the security industry, been brushing up on owasp top 10, kali *nix and general pentesting stuff. Are there any certs I should be looking into getting? Something AWS, CEH, or OSCP?

Either that or you're completely out of touch with modern product design practices.

it's not explicit like that.

it's more like "salary $100K+ DOE"

and then when they make an offer, you negotiate your salary.

men, traditionally, drive harder bargains than women, and therefore make more $ for doing the same job.

Tell me what you want to do and I can point you in the right direction. Pen testing, security engineer, security governance, etc...

Certs are only useful when you are getting a job via a HR department that doesn't know what the fuck your job actually does.

Good point.

installing adwords in your wordpress blog does not make you be in tech

Hey man, thanks for the serious response. Right now I just want to put my foot in the industry. I'm currently working as a backend dev and doing some bug bounties in my spare time, so security engineer might be easier?

So you are saying woman aren't ambitious enough to ask for more money? Are all men are Chad and all woman are Stacey? That's a cool assumption.

>tits with timestamp
c'mon OP, don't be a faggot now

When you say "Backend Dev" what do you mean?

Somehow you were the first to say it. Tits or gtfo

why are all girls in tech already taken
but still flirt with me all the time

Are you saying we give a fuck. Tits with timestamp or go peddle your fantasy elsewhere you neckbeared sperglord

They don't. You are just so lonely that you think that regular human interaction is flirting.

c#, java, making api endpoints and unit tests.

Some certs are genuinely valuable in the security industry. OSCP, CISM, CISSP are all guaranteed jobs.

So, filling in boilerplate?

Thanks in advance! I might not reply in a timely manner, highly appreciated man.

something along those lines.

Yes, with companies that don't know why you need a security consultant on retainer.

damn that might be true I'm pretty lonely
I'm just not used to this deep eye contact they make with me
it's like they reading my soul, kinda creepy

If I'm dating a girl. And know she has really jacked up teeth (I'm American.) and it's like the only thing that I think she could change for the better. What's the best way to bring it up? I mean to me if someone said "your teeth are jacked you should get them fixed." I probably would.

>inb4 post pictures.
Have none.
But she's got two teeth almost completely on top of each other teeth in the front. Like pic related. But instead of the teeth being behind the others. Their infront.

A security engineer would be just a regular engineer whose specialised in security, perhaps with skills with some additional technology, like IDS/IPS, ect... The best value courses around in this area probably come from the SANS institute. Having pen testing skills certainly will help write secure code as well, and the OSCP is great in that area. But if you actually wanted to become a pen tester, youd probably be looking at starting from scratch in an entry level position, or at least close to one.

you tell me.

do you feel like you're getting paid what you should be?

if you're not, then you're probably a woman.

if you are, then you're probably a man.

if you feel like you're making way more than you should be, then you're doing it right.

I really don't know what you mean by that. OSCP will get you a pen testing gig, the other two are security management/governance certs. An security manager or CISO is likely to have one of those.

Not even that big of a deal.

I feel like you're the type of guy who will try to fix something, but, not be satisfied with it every time you finish, so you re-do it over, and over, and over again. Until it's original form is not there anymore and it's just a hunk of repairs that do nothing.

>inb4 projecting
I am

Yeah checking out some free whitepaper from SANS as I type. Need to run off, thanks a lot for your help security user.

I don't think that's remotely close. I do things the right way so I only have to do them once...

And this doesn't help me how to bring up nicely "get yo damn teeth fixed"

dude, if you're dating a girl, shouldn't you be able to be open and honest enough with her to tell her what you think about her teeth?

just tell her

From the back and forth in this thread about what a "ux designer" is. I've come to the conclusion that it's a person who delegates and makes important decisions but lacks any real talent or skill to do and of the hardcore engineering. The type of role where, the engineer could do your job but you couldn't do theirs type of deal.

fine, but we were discussing "ux developer" (what op is), not "ux designer" (what op is not)

> Don't we want more women in the tech sector?
No, we want more productive capable people.
> Why do you assume that that can't be women?
That's a measurement, not an assumption. There are some women who can compete at the level of some of the lesser men in the industry. Those women are the exception, and once you've hired all both of them, you have to fill the rest of the field with men.

All engineering is moving client side anyway. So this girl is in the right place. Soon it'll all just be nodejs running on the client, we won't need servers. We can just run serverless functions and nodejs ftw.

On a scale of ugly, 1 being extremely ugly and 10 being fairly ugly, how ugly are you?

Also do the same with how fat you are

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

DUUUUUH, HEY GUYS, I GOT AN IDEA, HOW ABOUTS WE PUT MO' GURLS IN DA TEC INDUSTWEEEEEE! IT NOT WIKE DEY AWENT IN DA TECH INDUSTWEE BECAUSE DEY DONTST CAWE, IT BECAUWSE OB DA PATWEAWKY!!!!!!!!1!!!11!1!!!!

Does she brush and floss???

Solid edge or solid works?

Using your husbands credit card doesn't mean youre in tech

>is that one of those Sup Forums threads where we are discussing if html is a programming language?
You are not in tech girl, don't worry nobody judges you. At my place children by the age of 12 learn to design simple websites with html/css/js and some frameworks like bootstrap.

my boss studied tech with focus on math and worked a decade on mainframe writing programs in assembler and cobol. She is a woman in tech.
