What genre has the cringiest name?

What genre has the cringiest name?

I'm gonna have to say "shoegaze"

Djent no contest

but the name is a joke

Sup Forumscore

Any of the late 00s indie meme genres like chillwave and witch house

Post-Rock
It sounds so ungodly pretentious y'now? "It's not Rock, we've moved past that." Makes it impossible to talk about with normies without coming across as pretentious yourself.

Metal.

intelligent dance music is up there for sure, its name is a meme even among fans

Jazz

"""Conscious""" hip hop

Crust punk

Probably this.

vaporwave

Post rock

I fucking hate telling people what IDM stands for so I usually tell them "experimental electronic" to come off a bit less pretentious

The name makes it sound much more interesting than it actually is though, it's not a bad name.

mumble rap
just sounds so outsider gawky

trap

Post Rock and Prog Rock for sure

PBRNB

ska obviously

I use the acronym but call it "Independent Dance Music". there are lots of "indie" bands signed to major labels so i figure the distinction is more in sound than actual conditions

>Avant Garde
The fuck are you supposed to pronounce that frog shit

not hard to say at all but it does comes across as obscenely pretentious to most normies.

math rock

This so much. The name isn't even fitting. IDM isn't inherently intelligent, and also since the name "IDM" is based on the name "EDM", it implies that one of the differences between edm and idm is that one is electronic and the other isn't. If anything it should be EIM or something, which still isn't perfect and it doesn't have as much of a ring to it, but it's more fitting at least.

mumblerap isn't a de facto genre

A vant guard or if a faggot a von guard

How about Pook?

pookcore is the future

"Pop"
Like what is it a bursting bubble of gum?

Pornogore.

How about ELM, electronic listening music?

>Country
Which country?

This to be honest family.

Any genre with the word "Post-" in it sounds pretentious. Post-Rock, Post-Electronic, Post-Punk, Post-New Wave, shit like that.

you know what dude just motherfuck your mom just fuck off aaaa!

I avant garde a clue

Adult Contemporary or Emo Rock.

u know wat fuk u op i bet it is past ur bedtime y dont u fuk off i like title fight

and triphop

>Madchester

This always pissed me off. Sounds clunky and doesn't roll off the tongue at all

Grunge

nu- anything

why do they have to make it nu

t. nu-male

walked right into that one

On one hand, it's based off of the term "vaporware" and is intended to invoke feelings from a broken nostalgia. On the other hand, it's just a bunch of kids slowing down Diana Ross songs in Audacity

Post Punk isnt bad but the others yupp

Lolicore

give examples

hip-hop. it doesn't sound so bad because its an everyday word, but when you think about it it sounds so fucking stupid

>On the other hand, it's just a bunch of kids slowing down Diana Ross songs in Audacity

So naming it after when companies don't deliver on their product is

Also Mac Plus wasn't made on Audacity.

I don't know among fans of IDM, but Aphex has joked that IDM is "really mean" to other genres of music and thinks "braindance" would be more appropriate.

Fado
Math Rock
Post Punk
IDM
Experimental Big Band
Bluegrass
Plunderphonics
PBR&B
Trap
Boom Bap
Musique Concrete
Krautrock
Turntable Music

This, its all RYM shilled chart fag shit.

Wonky. Wonky is the WORST name

You know when I think of it, "Hip Hop" is a pretty gay name.

the term "idm" is lame but what's even worse is that it's such a vague and meaningless term atp. like literally every "idm" artist can be comfortable classified as something else, like ambient techno, dnb, downtempo, you name it.

Gothic industrial

Even though I listen to it I don't like saying it

Macintosh Plus wasn't, but it's still the exact same concept

Gothic anything, since it rarely describes the music.

Also Visual Kei for that same reason.

crunkcore
dungeon synth
post-metal
baggy (and madchester)

PBR&B

I think by the time this was coined the "making fun of hipsters for drinking PBR" thing went out of style.

Different poster here, but let me explain why I also thought "post-metal" was a gay name...Its just the original "post-rock", but with the word metal put in.

Trap

Some of the more highfalutin classical terms like "New Complexity"

>experimental big band
wtf

nobody wants to listen to big band, and they certainly don't want it experimented with.

I just love that trap is named after a place you'd most likely hear trap.

That's why it's named trap, dummy

Post-killyourself

Just call it downtempo. Most people won't know the difference.

...I know, dude. That's why I love that it is called that. It's honestly more descriptive that way.

There's nothing wrong with trip-hop.
Downtempo is both different, and more retarded of a name.

>but when you think about it it sounds so fucking stupid
Who do you think invented it? Niggers don't have the capacity to think.

The only country that matters, friend. America.

I know they're different, I literally said most people won't notice the difference.
What would you call it? I'm not being a dick I'm genuinely curious.

Thats so racist- you know what? I can't even THINK about this post...

You do realize that the term "shoegaze" was initially a derogative slight, right?

It had, but "alt-R&B" is just as bad

That doesn't make it any less cringe

>Niggers don't have the capacity to think.

He's never heard jazz before

Yeah I guess so

I mean, the term for the genre makes sense tho... You don't get lost in a wall of sound by not gazing down at your $5000 pedal board

Explain this

>Plunderphonics

came here to post this. what asshole made up that name

You can't explain the grace of god

This asshole

Twee

Bluegrass, Math Rock and Krautrock all kinda make sense though.

Yeah, bluegrass likely came from the name of a band, the Blue Grass Boys.

Not Math Rock. People called it math rock cause "wow lots of time signatures" but in actuality, I don't think Hella or Tera Melos or Don Caballero even know the time signatures to their songs/they didn't write the music with time signatures or technical bullshit in mind. The thing about math rock bands are that they are not formulaic and exact and precise as the term "math" rock would suggest. These are usually guys who used to play in punk rock bands. They write spastic shit without thinking of time signatures, and fans trying to analyse the music noticed that the songs don't consistently stay in 4/4 and when notated, the songs are actually in rapidly changing time signatures, so they called it math rock because of the changing time signatures, when in actuality math rock bands are just writing music that disregards time signatures which is why the time signatures frequently change.

Also I'm tired as fuck and I'm not proofreading this so my bad if my explanation sounds like shit or repeats itself or whatever the fuck
