We all know he was a legend, and we all like his music.

But what really, memes aside, was David Bowie's best song? Album?

Oh! You Pretty Things

I always knew these personal lists would come in handy one day. In my trashy opinion, and in no particular order-
Songs-
1. Teenage Wildlife
2. Word on a Wing
3. Lady Stardust
4. Yassassin
5. Girl Loves Me
6. Looking for Satellites
7. Because You're Young
8. Time
9. The Next Day
10. Moonage Daydream

And Albums in no order-
1. Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps)
2. The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars
3. Blackstar
4. The Next Day
5. Station to Station
6. Young Americans
7. Aladdin Sane
8. Lodger
9. Young Americans
10. Let's Dance

Low is very much worth checking out for it's first side. The straightforward, snappy, super focused instrumentals with minimal vocals works unbelievably well, and I'm only disappointed that it doesn't continue the whole way through. The instrumentals on the second side are fine, but they just kinda wash over me compared to the first side. Same goes for "Heroes". There are absolutely low points of Bowie's career, but the dude put out so many absolutely phenomenal albums and songs that hes worth taking a serious look at. Like even on his worst albums you still get at least one song that goes down as one of his best.

The second side instrumentals are actually my favorite part of "Low".

why not Earthling?

>6. Young Americans
>9. Young Americans
The album so nice he named it twice.

The fuck?
Low Side 2 >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Low Side 1

It's really good to be quite honest.

This.

this is his best album.

Is 'Heroes' one of those rare things that it's his best song just because it transcends the artist themselves? I can't think of the right word for it but 'Heroes' is one of the best songs of all time, Bowie or not. Like the pleb answer is also the correct answer here.

They're pretty good, I could just never jive with them like the first side. Maybe on a different album i would have liked them more.
The frantic drum beats are cool, but I feel like they get just a little repetitive on some of the tracks. Still like a 7-8/10 for me.
I go back and listen to it every now and then and I keep getting blown away by how much I still love every song on the album.

Also thought about it some more and I'm 99% sure Scary Monsters is my favorite.

you'll love Heathen then. give that a try.

Heroes is a very important song, it will go down in history, but let me make something clear. If you think Heroes is David Bowie's 'best song' (if that's something that could even be known?) then you're just being an ignorant asshat. Don't get me wrong, it's a m a s t e r p i e c e, but it's not the only one in David's arsenal and it's only excusable to hold it in the highest regards if you're new to his work.

Is real best song, well, my personal choice, can be hinted at with just these lines.

I know you think you're awful square
But you made everyone, and you've been everywhere
Lord, I'd take an overdose, if you knew what's going down.

objective top 10

We seem to have opposite tastes. Low is pretty much the only Bowie album I like a lot and it's mostly because of Side 2.

Station To Station is his best album and song

My answer changes on mood, I tend to think either Low, Station to Station or Blackstar are his best albums.

I don't think I could limit it to 5 best Bowie songs let alone 1.
