guessing that's a bitcoin miner

>VGA
what gave it away

How the fuck does mining bitcoin work? I don't even understand.

You use the power of multiple connected graphic cards to drive a drill bit into the ground to unearth the bitcoin ore

nice Sup Forumsminer

graphics cards are the most capable hardware when it comes to bandwidth and speed, your rig is essentially a slave for millions of other people's benefits, and u get digital currency for it.

1. Strap a bunch of video cards to a board.
2. ????
3. Profit!

i dont get what bitcoins mashines do exacly?
what they decrypting /calculating
i mean it must be petaflops of data every 10 minutes wordwide

EXACTLY what your bitcoin rig is doing, is never really consistent. Random people around the world can use your rig to do whatever the fuck they want with it, in exchange you get digital money.

you're essentially pimping out your machine

If noone posts ill post mine

somebody likes nvidia too much.

what video card do you have in that machine?

GeForceĀ® GTX 1080 Ti ARMOR 11G OC

nice answer, i still think large companies use it
for example counting the weather? or matrix?
i mean the amount of data is ridiculous
by looking how much people now farming bitcoins

cpu?

Noice

The Kal-ElĀ® Pure Kryptonite card

i7 7700k 4.5GHz

whats up with lights and leds?
why faggots like shining machines?

i dont get why people buying it
its enaught to run evry game (on 3 monitors in 60fps max setings) that will be relased in 2021

would it run gta v maxed out?

>that's the point

neat, im gonna build a similar build for myself next month, gonna go with same cpu, a 11 gig rog strix 1080 ti, with 16 gigs of 3600 mhz ram.

None of this is true. bitcoin miners are just doing proof of work, and distribution of the blockchain, not real calculations.

/thread

It's fine if I use my pc for eight hours a day?

From what I understand, machines all across the network have a race to see who can decrypt/hash something correctly first so that machine gets to processes a transaction and is thus rewarded some currency for doing so.

Furthermore, doing this by yourself can be slow, so often times people will join together in groups and any currency mined by any member is split and distributed to the other members based on how much work they did in solving the decrypt/hash.

Though don't take my word on this; this is just how I understood some explanations I've researched.

its fine if you use it 2 month straight

My pc has been on for months on end, only turning it off for updates and power outages, its staying cool and no problems yet.

No,bitcoin mining with GPUs has not been profitable for literally years.

Likely mining etherium or just alt coins via nicehash

>petaflops of data every 10
Also, petaflops of data doesn't make sense... a petaflop is a measure of calculation speed, not data. But the bitcoin network, in flops, is actually running a 5.658 exaflops right now (5685 petaflops)

Niiggers like this are the reason we're paying a fucking premium for mid-range graphics cards these days.
Bitch i can't afford to spend a mortgage payment on a graphics card so midrange is all i've got and the mining cunts are keeping most cards sold out and whatever's left are like a 30% premium.

bullshit. btc mining with GPU's is profitable as hell again with BTC over $4,000.

misinformed as fuck
you shouldn't post shit you don't know about

Crypto miner and trader here.
You haven't got a fucking clue what you're talking about.

cryptocompare.com/mining/calculator/btc?HashingPower=4730&HashingUnit=GH/s&PowerConsumption=1293&CostPerkWh=0.12

It doesn't matter how much a bitcoin is worth really, unless you have an ASIC farm you're share will be so small you won't make ROI on your hardware, let alone electricity.

You're a clueless cunt.

Actaully, thats not exactly right. depending on the exact calulation being done, a hash is ~ 12,697 FLOPs. and the btc network is running 5.658 exahash, not flops.. so in FLOPs its running at about 71.839 zettaflops

Cryptominer here as well, and running a rack of GPU miners at a host that charges $0.05/kwh is paying off quite well actually, thanks... It all about finding cheap electricity (usually in china)

how do you "sign up"?

If you're mining BTC with GPUs you're missing out on more revenue you could be making mining alts and selling it for btc

as a miner. not worth even trying unless you have a $20k or more to get started with.

Start small with crypto, or you'll lose all your money. Unless you have >20k start up capital. All is not lost:

Day trade alt coins, free coins via airdrops

getstartedwithcrypto.wordpress.com/2017/08/26/how-do-i-get-crypto-coins/

Buy low, sell high, alt coins start at a fraction of a penny. Bitcoin has 10 decimal places. Buy at 1sat sell at 5, 5x profit.
Buy on one exchange, transfer to a different exchange where it sella for a higher price. Free money

ok good its a closed system. lets say i have the cash where do i begin?

is this a home business? Would I be renting a business office and just fill it with servers and rent a t1 or whatever is fastest and cheapest?

Im in colorado and considering the MMJ business and this seems like a nice side tech investment

would solar panels solve the energy deficit problem?

...

tard wait for coffelake.

All bitcoin transactions are stored in a public ledger.
Millions of machines have a copy of this ledger (miners)
They all play a game, essentially trying to guess an encrypted password, until one machine gets it. (Mining)
The winning machine gets 25 BTC (currently about $110,000)
That machine then adds to the public ledger all the bitcoin transactions that took place since the last winner.
The games difficulty is scaled to how much hashing power the bitcoin network currently has so it will take 10-15 minutes for a winner to emerge.

That's essentially what mining is. Youre trying to crack an encrypted value for money. Pools let people band together and they split the wins.

>6 cores
Welp, if its for gaming the i7 are still good since most of the games cant use 6 cores but 4

but the coffeelake will be much more future proof and it won't cost that much more than kaby lake. And if you want 4 cores just buy coffeelake i3 that will cost 1/3 what the 7700k does now.

So is there any added benefit that comes from this operation, or is it just expensive machines wasting valuable resources just to generate some virtual money?

what resources are being wasted??

Bitcoin mining with GPU's hahahaha that's like taking a rubber band gun to a nuclear war

noob question: I thought GPUs were best for mining due to their speed? Or you need to build a cpu cluster?

Noob answer, but I think GPU's aren't necessarily faster than CPUs, only more specialized (IE specifically designed for graphic operations). Which isn't always a good thing,a nd probably not a good one for the kind of calculations needed for mining.

GPU's are better and cheaper for the performance you get, the point is that this may have worked 5-6 years ago but at this point with collectivized mining the odds of you solving a block are almost nill. You probably won't get your money back out of it.

I know gaming on a laptop is not the best, but i shelled out a lot of cash for this one. I move alot so a desktop is not really an option. its an ASUS G751JY

They used to be but now you can buy custom ASIC miners that specialise in mining and nothing else, they churn out way more performance

why do you live in an old person's closet

Recently built a new gaming rig, i5-7600, EVGA 1070, corsair crystal case, asus board was useless, wouldn't recognize new corsair RAM and wouldn't accept new BIOS updates returned it and bought an MSI Krait gaming board and it's been perfect.

...

...

yeah. Im waiting to get back on the road again. I got a spare room from some friends. I move around for work but it has been spears now during summer. Last year i lived in this motel room for a couple of months.
