Why did tablets fail to replace laptops?

Why did tablets fail to replace laptops?

Because they are primarily a consumption device, not a creative/productive one.

Because they are faggy

For proper work you need a physical keyboard

Keyboard with physical keys is too efficient.

Touch screens are too clunky and inaccurate.

Because you can't work on them as well as on laptops.

Only "tablet" device i use is e-book reader.

They're the middle child of laptops and smartphones. Encumbersome and giving little excuse to fuckups.

Give it 10-20 years then tablets may be able to do everything the current gen notebooks can do, which will be basic compared to notebooks capabilities then. Same for phones/phablets.

Mobile processing. Could get better though.

Because nobody has yet figured out how to make typing on a tablet not make you want to pull your fucking eyes out of your eye sockets

They're not powerful enough.

because you can't get battery life, computing/rendering power, good screen resolution, and a camera chip that would be acceptable by today's resolution standards into a device less than a quarter of an inch thick. Also, no tactile response on the keyboard, so you can't touch type as well, and typing reduces usable screen space.

You can't /thread yourself.
Let me do it for you.

Because Chromebooks are the future.
Tactile keyboard with a touch screen. You can use it as a tablet or as a laptop.

fragile
lack of good input devices
battery life
low storage space
the os
lack of customization
not much in terms of power
give it say 10 years and we'll probably see more elite versions and diversification of manufacturers.
