listen to the Ildjarn-Nidhogg s/t and Mutiilation's Vampires of Black Imperial Blood. Both rely on lo-fi production and repetition to create an atmosphere. in the case of Ildjarn, it's pretty much snowy, frosty, and harsh, and for mutiilation, it's medieval, majestic, and tragic. Don't just listen to the atmospheric part of black metal though.
