Those schools were created to teach them english and how to be a part of society. They were a huge good for natives. There was like 1 or 2 instances of abuse, and that only affected a couple hundred people. It's a cop-out.
If you';re native in canada you:
1. Get money monthly from the government while attending any school
2. Are automatically accepted into any university you choose for any program without any pre-requisites
3. Pay no tuition for university
4. Get a free house, land, vehicle, and all living expenses covered on res. land.
5. Pay close to no taxes

That is not really true at all. The band I'm with will help pay for things, but that's what it comes to. Some bands are so poor that being native has essentially zero perks. It's not a standardized thing across Canada. The really rich bands might give those perks, but only if they're rich enough, and not corrupt.
