lmao, they keep trying to push it back. first they claim hip hop started in 1979, then 78, then 77, now 73. next thing you know they'll be talking about 60's rap.

at best it started in 1979, despite the fact at the time it was just generic disco with rap vocals.

Music genres are just generalizations, that one date is just a good spark point for when a culture started to move in its own direction that ended up turning into hip hop

Rapping was something the vikings invented

WE WUZ VIKINGS 'N SHEIT

HIP HOP DID NOT START IN NEW YORK IN THE 70'S THAT'S FOR FUCKING SURE

b-but

You don't need to have an album to have a genre to exist. Hip hop is more of a culture than a genre anyway.

Here you go lads

1980: hip-hop started
2010: hip-hop ended

Post some '73 hip-hop, lads

DJ Kool Herc developed the style that was the blueprint for hip hop music. Herc used the record to focus on a short, heavily percussive part in it: the "break". Since this part of the record was the one the dancers liked best, Herc isolated the break and prolonged it by changing between two record players. As one record reached the end of the break, he cued a second record back to the beginning of the break, which allowed him to extend a relatively short section of music into "five-minute loop of fury".[7] This innovation had its roots in what Herc called "The Merry-Go-Round," a technique by which the deejay switched from break to break at the height of the party. This technique is specifically called "The Merry-Go-Round" because according to Herc, it takes one "back and forth with no slack."[8] Herc told The New York Times that he first introduced the Merry-Go-Round into his sets in 1972.[9]

Love Pigmeat. Another great bit is Open The Door Richard, which interestingly enough was a cover.

Open The Door, Richard is featured in the 90s version of Lolita. It's very nice indeed. :)

What if the first hip-hop wasn't recorded?

Imagine rappers could still play instruments instead of making hamfisted bleep bloops on a computer

you're right, but Sup Forums has no concept of music that isn't recorded

Judge and court songs were all the rage back then in jamaica.
youtube.com/watch?v=YMzzdDtkiPw

You need to basic notions of piano at the very least in order to make good bleep bloops

>TFW three punk frat Jews defined the genre.

HOW CAN BLACKS EVER RECOVER

We never got a hip hop album from Prince Vince
youtube.com/watch?v=CY7ACV55mgI

Agreed. And why focus on a turntables which have been completely irrelevant from hip-hop for 20 years

nope, just need a sampler and a drum machine.

but music ended in 2009

Robert Ashley invented hip-hop when he would MC poetry over a beat

Did Beastie Boys really define hip hop?

I feel like this board struggles with any music that isn't packaged in the LP format. This thread is especially embarrassing

>rap started during slave times
>they were RHYMING back then
People think rhyming equals rap music. If you ask me, alot of elements of gangster rap were started with country songs like this:
youtube.com/watch?v=mlzu6cuEQWA
>verses dont really have any melody
>more talking than singing
>rhymes for days son
>talking about crazy gangster type shit
Stompin Tom Connors was one of the first rappers.

>using google
user

i can see the resemblance but saying
>Stompin Tom Connors was one of the first rappers
is buzzfeed-level investigation

someone put a trap beat on this shit

It's not that the video is factually wrong.
They keep changed what the start was.
First if was the first album, then various first singles, now for some reason the first party it was played at?

Considering hip hop started as block parties to give kids something to do instead of getting involved with gangs and shit, that makes sense. Plus when you consider the breakbeat was crucial to the start of the genre which again was invented for the same kids to dance to at those block parties...

>hip hop was started to keep kids from gangs and drugs
>hip hop 20 years later is one of the main reasons kids get into gangs and drugs
This is a cruel world.

hip hop t+20 kids are dumb white suburbanites and got what was coming to them

>They keep changed what the start was.
>First if was the first album, then various first singles, now for some reason the first party it was played at?

Motherfucker people have been saying Kool Herc was the innovator for forever

>hip hop 20 years later is one of the main reasons kids get into gangs and drugs
>Actually believing that music causes gang violence or drug use
Crime and drug use in America has decreased massively since hip hop culture became a mainstream thing.

op here
there are no hip hop 12" or 7" released between 1973 to 1978
Disco ufo is just an electronic disco track.

discogs.com/search/?genre_exact=Hip Hop&decade=1970

But there were lots of block parties you fucking retarded cum guzzling spunk bubble

Wtf holy shit

Fuck you OP.

They were making music before it got put on records.

>Block parties are reported as a World War I innovation originating from the East Side of New York City, where an entire block was roped off and patriotic songs sung and a parade held to honor the members of that block who had gone off to war.

so that's it, hip hop started in 1914

Nah, it's impossible that it started 3 years before the documentary was made.

No.

Yes hip hop started back then but they didn't have any funk records to sample for another half a century so it was kind of low key.

>Imagine....

Not all music is recorded you fucking retard.

plenty of jazz breaks to sample though but then Technics didn't start until 1965

Another white kid who thinks he knows how the lives of blacks and mexicans work.

>music genres don't start until the first commercial recording of it is released
Really activates my almonds, OP

And they play their instruments too

So what? Correlation doesnt equal causation. Music does have an influence on people, especially kids who grow up with absent parents. dont be a retard.

>hip-hop
>music

do you know what hamfisted means?

Let's try to push it back to before the slave trade so we can claim rap is an entirely white invention ruined by niggers.

A challenger appears youtube.com/watch?v=zmciuKsBOi0

sorry, skip to 1:30

this is actually fucking great

holy shit
google doesn't know SHIT

Except there is more to hip hop than rapping.

It needed breakbeats + rapping.
