I'm an oldfag. What are some good contemporary metal bands that will appeal to my dad sensibilities? I'm not afraid to be a little adventurous. I'm 44.

Slipknot

What kind of metal, Heavy, Trash?

Striker, Spellcaster, Enforcer, Skull Fist.

Can give more if you want.

Metalcore is contemporary, metal is not

I love Slayer, Saxon, Iron Maiden, Metallica, so on. The only modern band I can say I even know and like is System of a Down (though I'm aware they haven't come out with an album in ten years. Listen, don't have kids.) My favorite band ever is Judas Priest and my favorite Priest song is "Painkiller."

Oceans ate Alaska

Yes more. I'm trying to look for stuff that is relatively popular. I like going to shows and knowing there's lots of people there. I also like upsetting the young people when they see an old guy there and they feel compelled to not like the band anymore.

Don't listen to the faggot that said Slipknot. Maiden is always relevant. You'll likely enjoy Gretta Van Fleet, Elder, Hermano, All Them Witches, Clutch, Khemmis, Spelljammer, The Sword, Truck fighters, Telekinetic Yeti, and 3 Inches of Blood.

Are you looking for more new wave of traditional heavy metal stuff like I listed there, or are you looking for other stuff like death metal, and other sub-genres?

not quite what you had in minde, probably, but it's fucking amazing
youtube.com/watch?v=tLMU908NrX8

check out Iced Earth's Days of Purgatory.
>it's a greatest hits with Matt Barlow re-recording the vocals. Fucking amazing.
youtube.com/watch?v=1SEow14foEg

>Slipknot
Self Titled and Iowa were pretty good, but it's an acquired taste like Mathcore.

Dio is one of my favorites

Love Judas Priest my fav Heavy Metal Band, try Dio, Pantera

>Judas Priest
I really like these 2 songs.
youtube.com/watch?v=UbMFhI_GSFs
>&
youtube.com/watch?v=2Ox73Iu0vFE

so.... Mercyful Fate then?
youtube.com/watch?v=ZWqBm28ZKeE

I just want to check out what's cutting edge. I'm pretty open minded, but I am an oldfag after all. I guess I'm trying to ween myself onto what's relevant. I got out of metal when Kurt Cobain pretty much killed it and made it shameful to like it.

>Try Dio
>says this to a 44 year old metalhead

Lich king

Lamb of God?
>this is a music thread now
youtube.com/watch?v=-oVW8gcse4g
>and the song they ripped off the sound from
youtube.com/watch?v=ePEFBxDGRw8

Kataclysm, Dimmu Borgir

I guess Slipknot is the band that real metalheads hate. Back in my day, we had Winger.

>I guess I'm trying to ween myself onto what's relevant.

To a metalhead who also likes Ween this was hilarious.

Definitely check out the ones I listed already. Also, here are a few good modern ones from different genres. Should be a pretty good start.

Savage Messiah, Necromancing the Stone, Steelwing, Sylosis, Visigoth, Whispered, Insomnium, Be'Lakor, Amon Amarth, Aphyxion, Cauldron

>what's cutting edge
youtube.com/watch?v=s17dYqasBTY
youtube.com/watch?v=bgtD_0d6tF0
youtube.com/watch?v=d4es83MFZNs
youtube.com/watch?v=-9RHqEgVGK4

kek
but really actually sad
try Mushroomhead

Love Fist

>try Mushroomhead
i like their techno shit more than their SlipNOT attempt.
>inb4 'they did it first'

Vultur griphus if you are into spanish grindcore

dubtrack.fm/join/hell-yeah_149593294206228

youtube.com/watch?v=fzsy9R0qbPI

>this is an adult contemporary thread
listen to The Acacia Strain, Born of Osiris and Fleshgod Apocalypse, then rock your balls off to some Steel Panther.

All of these bands are bad.

Rammstein

36 here. Old metalhead. I'd suggest checking out the album "The Great Misdirect" by Between The Buried And Me. Pretty kick ass stuff that has a lot to offer. In Flames has some good stuff as well.

>cutting edge
youtube.com/watch?v=ATSoB5ClWWM

I like The Sword.

>Telekinetic Yeti

My man, just saw them open up for Weedeater a few weeks ago.

>In Flames has some good stuff as well.
every song by them since Come Clarity has been "boohoo whine whine"

youtube.com/watch?v=vXBsXK0Net4

Death Angel
Death
Horisont (if you like a classic sound)
Eluveitie is my favorite
Alestorm is upbeat and fun

Check out "in solitude"
Mercyful fate style occult heavy

Amon amarth has really caught my ear lately if you're into viking metal

Baroness
Rosetta
Russian Circles
Year of No Light

check out Trivium, especially the Shogun album

Gojira mah nigga
Kinda toolish but with more droned out heavy riffs

>Pantera
>Contemporary
Fuck dude, learn to read.

Jesters race is the only really good one

Murph and the Magictones

>in solitude
so far they remind me of Ghost and Danzig more than Mercyful Fate
>breddy guud though. thanks.

If you think born of osiris is bad it's time for you to chug bleach son

>Trivium
Chink metal
>in wave, in waves

Colors by between the buried and me was also incredible to this anons point

I not proud, but Slipknot and Godsmack got me into metal. Thankfully, my tastes have evolved.

>Jesters race is the only really good one
Check out Lunar Strain.
>they had the vocalist from Dark Tranquility.
I like whoracle a lot too.

youtube.com/watch?v=xixI-q5wFpg

Enforcer(swe) speed/heavy

Dream Theater.

Irepress.
youtu.be/JMBu8krt7c0

>In Flames
I used to listen to them in highschool like 15 years ago

Not so much In Flames, but BTBAM is fucking solid. Check em out.

Volbeat

Not exactly cutting edge but Remission by Mastodon kicks a lot of ass.

Evangelion- Behemoth
Rheia- Oathbreaker
Dead Planet- Hollow Earth

You might like Ghost?

>Godsmack
Their self-titles album is a fucking classic.
youtube.com/watch?v=fyTeoqnJTt4

>Dream Theater.
fake and gay

Lol it's really not.

Yob
Elder
Gojira
Blood Incantation
Om

>contemporary
>metal bands
>Slipknot
pick only one, retard

OP, Im 35 here and I have to say I have slightly moved towards more progressive metals stuff, but still good stuff.

Animals as Leaders

An Endless Sporadic

A Lullaby for the Devil

Spiral Architect

Try one album of each, any. I think you might like it. the genre is so diverse.

anybody member?
>i member
youtube.com/watch?v=auoS9eGypIA

>Lol it's really not.
that's because your gay. sorry to break it to you.

Don't tell anyone, but my message tone is the opening bit from Goin' Down.

This, they're retro enough for old people and heavy enough for youngins.

youtube.com/watch?v=m9KbmRTgigQ

i'm same-fagging and nobody can stop me
youtube.com/watch?v=J706nfqOXQQ

>Slipknot isn't contemporary anymore.
Now I feel old.

Obscurity, Eluveitie, Hunted, Ghost a.c.

If you enjoy Animals as Leaders, may I also suggest Blotted Science.

Biohazard, Suicidal Tendencies, White Zombie, Rage Against The Machine

Already have it The Machinations of Dementia is a hell of an album. what else?

youtube.com/watch?v=_QjyEB9AeJ4

Nope. I even bought that album when it came out. It was pretty forgetful. The first song was alright. The rest of it is basically him telling us how much he wants everyone to get away from him.

>Animals as Leaders
Niggers as Singers

shut up faggot

Love it.
youtu.be/a3tQ2SdYMnw

>The rest of it is basically him telling us how much he wants everyone to get away from him.
so you listened to 2 songs 15 years ago. gooooooood
>it's bad tho

>An endless Sporadic

youtube.com/watch?v=9SriJAPXCNo

youtube.com/watch?v=MzQ5o7b7qf0

The album that give me MF vibes is "the world.the flesh.the devil" especially
>breddy guud though. thanks.
Glad u like, no problem bro

>Lil Uzi Vert, and Migos
Tuff Chikenz and Vert Boi

Honestly, I don't really know of any other groups like them. Instrumental metal.. good stuff though. I'm open to suggestions if you know of any.

Amorphis, Amon Amarth, Skeletonwitch, Brendan Small, Eleuviete, Soilwork, Lamb of God, Mastadon are all in my wheelhouse. I'm 36 and love older stuff too but you will enjoy one of these. Start with Circle or Skyforger from Amorphis. They both are excellent from.start to end.

computer metal

Digital Veil by The Human Abstract. Awesome album!

my nigga i was just going to post this

Way to miss the point whiz. Try reading and answering the request.

youtube.com/watch?v=39E5tuTVHs4

Considering you grew up in the 80s (and probably had your first exposure to metal then), you owe it to yourself to check out Power Trip. I wasn't a big fan of thrash (in fact, I actively kinda disliked it) until I found them, and I'm in love. Listen to their second album, Nightmare Logic. Also, if you were ever into Sabbath, check out Sleep and Electric Wizard.
