People don't live there because there isn't much to do besides outdoor stuff, there isn't really anything to meet people. The weather is kind of shitty too, its really cold and super windy. The good paying jobs are in the oil field/coal field so it isn't laided back office work. Jobs like store clerk is payed more than in other areas though.
