Your favorite videogame soundtrack(s) and the effect it has had on your musical preference

For me it would probably be the soundtrack for total annihilation, it got me into classical:

Morrowind soundtrack got me more psyched on ambient

World of Goo has one of my all time favorite soundtracks, but I wouldn't say that vidya music had any effect on the music I listen to in my free time. Videogame soundtracks are inseparably linked to the game experience in question to me, outsie of that they completely lack their impact and the only thing I can get out of them is maybe a catchy melody.

>Twinsanity
My homeboy. What a creative fucking soundtrack.

The best soundtrack i've ever heard

Do you mind if we expand this to include OST's from TV shows?

Where is that google doc with all the ost links in it?

...

This is actually a good OST.

tomas dvorak is goat, his samorost soundtrack is also 10/10

The soundtrack for Twinsanity was done by a group called Spiralmouth, if memory serves. They released an album in 1999 that is fucking incredible. Their original stuff is great, and some of the covers are just... Fuck.
My two favorite covers on it:

And my favorite original:

No matter what people think of the game because of the fanbase, I still think it's incredible. Why judge a game based on the people who are "fans"? The soundtrack is one of the best video game OSTs of the 2010s, maybe of the 2000s (though it has stiff competition from SH3, MGS2, and Mother 3). I... I actually own the Undertale OST on vinyl. It's fucking great.
HOWEVER
My other favorite? Silent Hill 1.
I ALSO have that one on vinyl.
Seriously one of the best soundtracks ever in terms of how it conveys the atmosphere of the world. It's a crushing reminder of how insignificant Harry is in the hellscape of Silent Hill. My Heaven is the greatest horror game boss theme of all time.

Pygmalion was a better ambient album than the Minecraft OST.

This is really good, I just wish there were more songs. Hearing Road Most Travelled is comfy, but kinda weird if you're hearing it in a dwemer ruin or a daedric ruin when there's all sorts of shit that can and will kill you.

Opened my mind to a whole new genre.

Everything else pails

Aw, fuck yeah. Hotline Miami's music is just something else. What are your opinions on the sequel's OST? I think it's just as good, but I've seen people say it's very inferior to the first.
...much like the sequel itself, actually. hm.

This soundtrack made me realize the importance of texture and space in music. I started to listen to more electronic based music.
I previously used to be focused purely on my guitar playing technique, but this game made me attempt to create some more diverse soundscapes, using distortion and effects.

git on muh level, i still listen to it when im in the car
the soundtrack is half the game
