From what I gather, it'll never really end because the benefits of it outweigh the risk for most people, imagine if you're a typical poor black kid in America, playing football will be the easiest way for a full scholarship into college (and the only way you're ever getting in is with a scholarship).

I agree that modifications could be made to the NFL to prevent injury, but that would change the core of the game, and make it closer to Canadian football

The incidents have been very small. The most infamous being that player from the Chiefs who murdered his wife and then committed suicide in the the KC parking lot.
Football was and will always be a bloodsport. It just needs to be looked at like boxing, you know the risks going in and just accept it.
Football is an instant payoff though, if you get drafted by an NFL team you'll make a decent amount of money even if you completely flop, if you get signed by a Baseball or Hockey team you could be stuck in the minor leagues for years making barely any money. Sports like Golf and Tennis are risky too as you're competing for prize money, you could spend years working your way up the ladder before you make any significant earnings.
If you're born in a ghetto as fuck area though, do you think the local schools are going to be up to a standard to get you into college with an academic scholarship? If I was a big black american kid I'd feel more confident getting a football scholarship rather than competing with autistic Pajeet from India with an IQ of 260
Football is easier for a poor kid to get into. In any other sport besides maybe track, which isn't as glamorous economically, the kid would need to join a club team. While AAU basketball teams are cheap, it is an extra commitment and probably requires attentive parents. If you're a good athlete you will eventually be ushered into football. Barely any football players besides QBs and really rich kids played club while pretty much every basketball player in the league right now was in an AAU team
I don't know how Hockey's salary cap works, baseball's union is so strong that if you scratch the majors even once you get your health care paid for for life and all contracts are guaranteed.
Same with the NBA. If you sign one contract all of that money is %100 guaranteed. Gilbert Arenas played like an absoulte madman and earned a 100 mil max contract. Then he decided to bring guns to his locker room threatening his teammate after a gambling argument. He got released and hasn't played basketball in like 7 years. But guess what? He's still raking in that $100 million contract to this day.
In the NFL you can get released for no reason at all and lose out on just about all the money you were owed. Even the best NFL players are lucky to get half of their contract guaranteed.
Also, Canadian football is Very diverse, You don't need to be good at throwing or kicking to play with, There's lots of different positions with a various set of skill.
