If anyone is interested in doing this job. All you'll need is a van. A mini van may work but a cargo van is way better. you don't need a CDL.

And they told me my philosophy degree was worthless.

>finance

it is worthless for that job.

I've been wanting to do this for a long time. I got an interview with them for it 4 years ago, but they didn't choose me.

Do you have any tips for getting that job? I've been applying about once a year since then, but I've never received another call back.

where do i sign up?

Coming from another artist I would joke about how big a lie that is, but doing furry is a very lucrative business. Also I'm personally slow at art. You could probably still make more than your listing though.

Didn't even notice, thanks user!

Can be a pretty fun job, but I get 1.10 a mile.. not always easy to get but I usually drive from Dallas to the southern border or western border. Not a bad job if anyone wonders if you can drive nonstop for 8+ hours and be ready at a moments notice

Technically it's good for everything as it helps develop your problem solving skills, your reasoning, and especially seeing things from another person's point of view. I'll be hones with you: I'm basically a salesman as it's my job to make you sign on the line which is dotted. So those skills definitely do come in handy. Although they're not direct applications

How do you get started/what's required?

Any other tips? I'm looking for a career change. I ideally want to move back home to Nashville, TN area.

You can buy a used van but the newer, the better. My van is a 2004 Ford E-150. You'll wanna contact a freight broker once you have your van.

Freight brokers hire more than just truck drivers, they hire non-CDL drivers too. Also since you'll be opperating your own vehicle, you'll make more money. I have an uncle who has a CDL and drives a semi-truck but because he drives a company owned truck, he's only making 40 cents/mile. I make 72 cents/mile just because I'm an owner/operator.

If you do manage to start this work, I recommend you save all your fuel receipts. Hire someone to do your taxes at the end of the year. Save any receipt for anything you buy for your business because technically you'll be self employed. The cost for your van, fuel, vehicle repairs, even money you donate to charity, its all tax deductible. Plus if you don't save your receipts, it will look like your making more profit than you are.

Major upside to my line of work is that I have off of work every weekend and I can choose to work when I want. I can call up my freight broker anytime and say "Hey I'm coming off the road for the next few days" and they say Okied dokie. Of course I don't make liberal use of this. The amount of money i make is directly proportionate to the amount of work i do.

Before this job, I was working as McDonalds. I worked and closed every weekend. What really pissed me off about that job is that I could bust my ass and make no more money than some fucking kid goofing off on his smart phone.

Wageslave is angry. I'm sorry.

yeah they should be like us and get paid salary so the company can rape us daily

Well I can see it being pretty bad if you get paid a shit wage hourly but I make almost 40 dollars an hour for overtime , so depending on how much I want to work, I can make more money than if I was salaried. I have good healthcare/dental through my work and make 70k a year and although my job could be stressful (warehouse manager on night shift) it's really not that bad because I generally can't really be stressed. Just load up trucks and keep the warehouse in order and follow code and all is fine.

I mean ideally maybe it would be better to instead take try and negotiate a salary of like 60k but then if my work decides to work me 60 hours a week , I'm just losing potential money in the long run.

The average income in the US is about $55k. Does it make sense to have to work overtime and sometimes 60 hour weeks to make slightly more than that?

Salary shoots way up above what I'm currently getting paid after your first few years and you get done with the initial training and testing. Also much higher if you work for a federal agency

Job mainly requires a willingness to do boring ass auditor type work and having decent people skills. Plus side is actual 8-5 workday for a salaried job. If you're working past 5 you're either trying too hard or browsed the internet all day and now have to finish stuff at home.
