ITT: Poorly describe the discography of a band, and others try to guess it

>Nearly everything was played by one guy
>He has a band now, and it sounds like his guitar's very... clanky
>Named after an anime character
>The best noise rock album ever
>Original cover was gorn
>Has an anime character on the front, last album they made

>very meh alternative metal, good blues cover though, i like the vocalist's range.
>kind of better? still not great though. still, vocalist is great.
>a fantastic album, track 7 has that weird-ass opening with animal noises
>WON'T YOU COME
>songs about suicide, murder, and isolation. FUN!
>we're back after a few years! and we're not as good!

soundgarden

yep!

we just had this thread with 100 posts like 30 mins ago

its ded jim

Big Black?
I guess you're including EPs?

>IQ way above the level of genius.
>For entertainment, he watches the films of Fassbinder, Herzog, Truffaut, Godard, Bertolucci, Mallick amongst other even more obscure artists.
>Long known as an avid reader of philosophy he has mentioned Baudrillard, Dubord, Hegel and Sartre among his inspirations.
>Understands the hypocrisy of contemporary morality and street culture and has exploited it to become a millionaire.

Lol shut up

Yep! I mean, I can't do much with two albums, and the compilations would just be "some EPs put together" and "the first album, an EP, and a single put together, only on CD and fuck you for buying CDs"

>they have basically one song they've recorded over and over for decades
>the lead singer sounds like Marge Simpson with a head cold
>most of their fans are aging rednecks

no one got it last thread
>one track that everyone loves even though the other 10 minute track is better/equally as good and no one remembers the rest of the album
>first track is better than the track that everyone loves of the previous album and the rest of the album is weird sound collage stuff because the band ran out of time to record more music
>their most accessible album
>wet fart on the discog but one of the band members saved it a bit 20 years later

>first song of debut album starts with first ep.
>piero scaruffi thinks the main guy's a god of his instrument
>why does he speak into that microphone most of the time?
>there are other band members, but we all know who we're here for
>quality decline from first album, oh but a decent album appears, then back to quality decline
>nobody but fans listen to the lyrics

wait which animu is on songs about fucking

Ride?

Speed Racer, I think

no, think 70s

Neu!

Gorillaz

>The one with the hit
>The one with some smaller hits
>The one most everyone likes
>The one where they got weird
>The one where they got weird at the same time as they were getting weird before
>The one where they got political
>The one that they gave away for free
>The one where they tried getting weird again
>The one that took the longest to make

I'm not sure. It's what appears to be a woman orgasming on the front and getting fucked on the back.

Lol radioman and the Yorkers

>hey guys am I popular yet?
>why did my first album tank? maybe this one will be better...
>okay fuck it fuck all of you I'm killing myself

yep

Nick Drake?

Easy mode:
>talks about dying in debut
>actually dies lol
Medium mode:
>government sucks wah
>government still sucks but the music is better
>same shit as the last one but nobody cares lol
>rehash of past ideas ooooo
>you tried
Hard mode:
>demos, nothing special at all
>vastly overlooked; their final album gets all the attention despite this one sounding just like it
>third and final album cuz singer commits suicide

pic not related in the slightest

yes sir

> every single album
> holy shit his guitarist is a god

Easy is Biggie

>um it's like lou reed + joy division + power chords + the fall
>-joy division, -the fall +REM
>mothers song title
>it's more chill and melodic now
>even more chill and melodic

>start as heavy experimental blues sludge country math death thing
>then sludgy hardcore with a few cool leads
>then more straightforward metal with more cool leads and a little clean singing
>next has even more
>wait where did the heaviness go now we're just prog metal
>wait no we're also simultaneously simple rock and experimental rock
>but wait don't go metal fans we're still metal look metal songs
>welcome back metal fans let's do the rock and metal thing together

I may have made it too easy but oh well

mastodon?

winner winner

>holds
>up
>spork

>Texan Cap'n Jazz but with better instrumentation and even more lofi >sad and/or angry man screams over dueling guitars
>the one album everyone knows (this time with even more impressionist lyrics)
>we're back nearly 20 years later and holy crap it does sound actually decent

>Starts off with goofy punkish songs about being sort of an outcast and failing at relationships
>Ends up becoming mediocre rock, the singer becomes full of himself and the songs get boring

Obvious clue:
It gets popular on tumblr
- No one really cares.
- Got good.
- Their best.
- Self-titled.
- Both features on worst tracks.
(press 'f' to pay respects)
- Cool album cover, inconsistent.
- Weeb, underrated album.
- A bit more experimental, a bit more shit.

Smiths

>We're a bouncy synthpop band! Yay!
>oh, uh, guess not. hope you like moody synthpop
>Samples, even darker tone!
>first song about bondage, yaaaaaay
>we industrial now?
>we post-punk now?
>oh hello guitars nice to see y-HOLY SHIT THAT SINGLE'S A BIG HIT
>well the guitars worked so well let's go full alt rock
>oh hey more alt rock
>Let's mellow out, get some glitchy stuff in there, niiiiice.
>god that mixing sucks balls
>like the first album! yaaaaaay!
>MAKE UP YOUR MIND ARE WE UPBEAT OR SAD well fuck i guess we blues now
>we've been making music for 37 fucking years and we're still going have our best album in nearly 20 years

That actually fits it really well but it's not what i had in mind

ahem the smiths had four albums and they never became mediocre rock

i've never listened to them, but i'm just gonna guess depeche mode?

>a prophet VS with teeth falls in love with Prince
>an angry middle finger buried beneath waves of distortion
>self deprecation the likes of which you've never seen. this'll go on to be their most popular album.
>their back! and with enough material to pack out well over an hours worth of sad, mad, and production flexing the likes of which you've never seen.
>it's been awhile, and a lot of hardcore fans will feel alienated by this release ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
>...speaking of aliens
>wowitsnothing.jpeg
>this will end up largely being overlooked, but don't let it slip under your radar
>turns out theirs still steam in this 'ol machine! where most veteran artists become all time lows, this band still continues to survive...everything

can't think of anything for the other releases. feel free to tack on.

for someone who's never listened to them, that's too good of a guess

damn, depeche mode is that lit? i've never listened to them much but i'm curious now. which albums are which on your list?

well everyone who hasn't heard them at least knows they're a synthpop band, and I know they're associated with 'moody' 80s bands like the cure and the smiths, and I heard that they switched to a more guitar-centric sound in on eo ftheir later albums, that's how I guessed

all of them
Everything from Ultra back to their second album is great, and everything after Playing The Angel is great (in my opinion). Playing The Angel itself is very meh.

I remember really liking Sounds of the universe. Is that more of a poor point in their discography?

I liked it, in any case.

>really nice folk rock album by a famous actress
>no more albums sorry

>really cool psych album with some sound collage influence that doesn't have a guitar
>no more albums but the frontman did have some solo work that isn't as good

>album to play on warm summer nights when you're feeling sad or whatever that actually has more than one good song fuck y'all
>there actually is one more album but it might as well not exist

Pretty sure the first two are Millia Jovovich and The United States of America. No idea what the third one is.

is the last one American football

I thought of The Avalanches, personally

but Wildflower was good

and who tf thinks SILY has only one good song

Most people who aren't into the genre couldn't get over Frontier Psychiatrist because of the lolsorandumb video.
na m8

yup
haven't listened to wildfflower yet desu

easy mode
>we're cap'n jazz but better
>we're cap'n jazz but worse except for the most popular song we've made
>we're cap'n jazz

cap'n jazz

they're not cap'n jazz

you said they were

Fuck, I dunno... The Promise Ring?

nope

>Like grunge on top of grunge. It's extra grungy. Has the big hit. Possibly about vampires.
>The just-as-good followup The title track is a fucking beast. Nobody cared about it.
>The just-as-good followup to the followup, seven years later. One version had a The Cure cover.
>Re-recorded version of the lost album. It's okay.
>ditto, it's just okay.
>"Let's reinterpret some of our big hits!" they said. And it was fucking great.

Alice in Chains?

Nope! Good guess, though, because they ARE from Texas.

Hint: The first big hit's music video had footage that was investigated as being a snuff film.

only powerhouse albums
>raw album of 3 dudes jamming
>SHOUTING, DRUGS, IRONY, W E L L
>kinda filler-y, many gems to be picked apart
>wow bro thatss pretty deep, universe
>god doesn't exist, we're drug free now
>the fucking sea, ocean, sailors
>we gon fuckin party tonight, also my brother died :(

modest mouse

>Dude we made a generic but well-written MTV pop punk album
>Dude we found this cool band called Modest Mouse and also we smoked a ton of weed
>We're super depressed
>Dude we're a noise rock band now and also my dipshit friend wrote all the lyrics for this one hope you like it
>Dude we found this cool band called Godspeed You! Black Emperor and also we suck now anyway peace out

...This sounds really fucking familiar. I'm drawing a blank though.

>wintery synthpop with Liz Fraser-sque vocals
>more of the same with better songwriting
>we lost our electronics guy so here's some world music inspired pop
>we like Bjork now
>eh
>stop pls

Brand New but your opinion on their albums is terrible dude

It did say poorly describe it
Also my opinion on Science Fiction has changed a little since posting that but it still seems like it's got some wasted potential desu

it's been literally 15 minutes

I was listening to it again when I typed that

Snowing

close but i guess it works

Tbh I've only listened to their first ep but it's Cap'n Jazz but better

green day

AC/DC

It is. Playing the Angel and the album that follows, Delta Machine, are better. But 90's stuff is superior anyway.

Mineral?

Uh, nah. Think more post-hardcore.

>dark mix of post-punk shoegaze and drone
>transitional album mixing style of previous and next album
>fantastic retro prog with one of the most emotional tracks I ever made
>I will do a concept album about isolation
>fuck it I'll just do a pop album

not At the Drive in is it?

> heroin money
> people say it's not worth your time
> nice
> did anyone listen to this?
> 3 drone tracks
> fucking great
> just a side project
> ???
> a satanic song
> probably good
> half shit half genious
> side project again
> closing chapter of rock music approach
> experimental EP
> mediocre electronica? (side project)
> kindergarten dubstep / one of the best albums
> another EP
> closing chapter of experimental approach
> more mediocre electronica?
> old rereleases
> now its getting weird

pavement

venetian snares?

> rape
> rape and drugs
> rape and drugs
> transcendence
> condemning humanity

nope, but was born in the same decade

> the best one
> the other one
> the one that went mainstream for some reason

>GAS THE WHITES! COMMUNISM NOW!
>DEATH TO AMERICA AND ALL IT STANDS FOR - brought to you by an American record company
>DOWN WITH CAPITALISM! this record costs $25 at your local record store
>covers

> sex
> drugs
> rock'n'roll
> underrated
> good
> artistically most sophisticated
> not so good

RATM - second line gives it away

>straight alt-metal EP
>mostly straight alt-metal debut album
>in which we find our style of faux-deep lyrics and odd tempo changes
>fun with convoluted mathematical patterns
>MY MAMA IS DEEEEEEEEEEEEAD!
>you'll never listen to this album in your lifetime

Tool

>ambient shit
>same as before but reworked
>the equivalent of a fuzzy dream in music form
>let's experiment with made-up words and new instruments
>more accessible but still keeping our general essence
>we mainstream now!
>life is kinda sad, but worth living for
>life sucks, then you die

If I fuck this model?

>black metal
>this time with even more grimier vocals
>...grimier
>evolves into clean vocals and powermetal elements
>songs way to long for any fans attention span
>thrash with unintelligible vocals
>violent thrash mixed with death metal, this time the vocals are somewhat clean
>power metal
>could have been a soundtrack to a skating videogame a La twisted metal style
>viking folk metal anthems
>even more viking folk metal anthems
