Latin america is a pretty good place in general, everyone is nice and if you don't fuck with crime it would hardly fuck with you. Of course, that is the normal latin american country, this shithole is a HUGE exception and that's why they care about us, because no one really can understand what the fuck happened here

Lets be honest here. People focus on Venezuela instead of any other shitty developing nation on earth because of it's populist "left" Government. Hence why you don't get news of Honduran death squads just mowing people down openly in the streets and executing poor people in western media.
It's pretty obvious what happened to Venezuela.
PSUV implemented price controls to help alleviate severe poverty which Venezuela had some of the highest levels in Latin America and increase consumption.
Production did though not increase with consumption and diversification, while happening throughout the 00s, did not happen fast enough, then crashed and burned come 2008 GFC which saw the country rapidly scramble back to Oil.
Monetary controls did help alleviate poverty, but also had the effect of also basically making it impossible to import now needed goods. Government got trapped between a wall and a hard place as if it got rid of price controls, the poor would turn against them, but it needed to get rid of them, because they were harming the economy, because people could just defraud the shit out of the entire system with ease.
Production also collapsed, because in Venezuela, Military more than anything chooses who keeps power and State owned assets were palmed off to the military to siphon wealth from.
Then came the death of Chavez, and the moron Maduro got into power and fired all of Chavez' people, then Saudi's artificially tanked oil prices to destroy competition (largely shale/tar sands and Russia) leading to the current crisis.
Currency controls that have outlived their usefullness, Government paralyzed, corruption, GFC and bad oil prices.
It's pretty easy to understand.

the thing about venezuela is that its actually a nice place to live and geographically speaking its almost perfect, its around 70F/21c degrees year round and honestly who the fuck wouldnt like that, plus tons of oil and gold and shit and touristy fucking places basically a pot of gold for whoever can take it (think cuba in the 1950's with all the resorts and shit)

Also, Chavez spent 14 years using media to brainwash people into worshiping him. Most chavistas supported him because he painted himself as a savior and god-like figure, not because they actually gave a shit about his political agenda.
In fact, the average venezuelan doesn't understand shit about politics because they made the political panorama all about emotional appeal. Barely any politican has to talk about actual plans to improve the country or anything.
Maduro tried to do the same as Chavez and manipulate people to follow him by using Chavez as a spiritual figure, but he's so dumb and plain that it didn't work on him, hence why even chavistas are turning against him now.

All my experiences and opinions as a venezuelan living in venezuela have more validity than yours simply by the fact that I live here, experience first-hand how the situation is affecting us, and, you know, live here.
