What you need to understand is that the sun is such a large source of light, that it literally drowns out the light from the moon and the stars as well.
With the light of the sun gone, the moon and starlight will seem that much brighter, like in this image. Sure the days will be a little darker but that's a small price to pay, ion my opinion.

Do a quick google search. This is elementary school science. The dark side of the moon is the side that sunlight does not reach. If the moon emitted light, there would be no "dark side" of the moon.
