Bayern caught up in 2013 actually, but who cares about ancient history anyway? Liverpool won a bunch of babby European Cups when there were significantly fewer teams and in an era when shite teams who have had no staying power also were capable (Forest, Villa, etc). The current format is infinitely more difficult to win, and they have only won that once.
It´s easy nowdays to get in the CL, back then you need to be the champion of your league.

That is true but most teams are just in the competition to make up numbers. Any club outside of Barca, Real and Bayern has very small chance of winning it currently. The last team outside of that trinity to do so was Chelsea (who happen to be the most likely team outside the trinity to achieve it next in my opinion, Atletico choke too hard).
