Race and species aren't set in stone terms. I've heard people make claims that we are different species and people who say we're different races. To say we are the same species because we can have offspring between for example a nordic woman and an aboriginal male doesn't hold its own when you consider horses and donkeys who are distinct species who can have offspring. Also, hundreds of thousands of years of segregation between organisms could well enough mean different species have developed.
