This is the problem with the ACA. It works great if you live in a populous state so you can share costs among many people. If you live in a rural state, the cost of insurance is extremely prohibitive.

The whole point of the US, is that the states help balance each others strengths and weaknesses. When you put artificial road blocks in the way (again both sides are guilty of this) it creates break downs and divisiveness that hurts the working man. It's mostly based on welfare and entitlement, as much as we all think about how black people are a drain on society, the majority of that drain comes from black and white poor people in red states.
This can be linked directly to the quality of education. Education is paid for by taxes. Taxes are seen as prohibitive to enticing corporations from setting up shop. It's a balance and a choice federal, state, and even town politicians must make.
Case and point, look at what Wal-Mart did to Gettysburg Pennsylvania's school district.
They came in, bought land, on a promise that they'd be given a 5 year delay on ANY AND ALL taxes, on land they owned.
They promised they'd stay in the town for at least 20 years.
Well Wal-Mart was profitable, 7 years in, very profitable actually.
And, then they pulled a fast one. Instead of paying their taxes, they sold their building back, and rented for a tenth of the cost instead, and then refused to pay the school taxes a week before they were due, saying "well it's only if we own the land" the city tried to negotiate at first, but army of lawyers, no way to resolve within a week.
Gettysburg had to make a choice. And it sucked, they thought the children shouldn't bare the burden of a sudden million dollar + shortfall on the district budget. Instead they hiked every homeowners year end taxes and reassess all "upper scale" housing. Now upper scale was only 100k and above.
