Is this even emo though? Not saying it's a bad album bc its not but how emo is it really?

>best
>Emo
It's not hard to be the best when it's competition is all shit

best emo album coming through

Negative, that would be this

youtube.com/watch?v=AC9bh-6abJ8
>cdr only release

members of agna moraine's autobiography

>it's another best emo thread
>it's just midwestern emo/indie garbage AGAIN

You guys are fucking gay. If you gotta listen to that style, listen to fucking Jawbreaker, please.

Anyway, best emo is Far's Water & Solutions, best screamo is City of Caterpillar's S/T and best proto is Heroin's S/T LP.

Correct, it's post-hardcore, really. Using that logic I could say that the best emo band is actually Fugazi but that would be fucking dumb.

it's like unintentionally progressive compared to the far more structured sounds of the late 90s

feels like they're always teetering between competence and failure, its funny and bad yet great

"Real Emo" only consists of the DC Emotional Hardcore scene and the late 90's Screamo scene. What is known as "Midwest Emo" is nothing but Alternative Rock with questionable real emo influence. When people try to argue that bands like My Chemical Romance are not real emo, while saying that Sunny Day Real Estate is, I can't help not to cringe because they are just as fake emo as My Chemical Romance (plus the pretentiousness).
Real emo sounds ENERGETIC, POWERFUL and somewhat HATEFUL. Fake emo is weak, self pity and a failed attempt to direct energy and emotion into music.
Some examples of REAL EMO are Pg 99, Rites of Spring, Cap n Jazz (the only real emo band from the midwest scene) and Loma Prieta.
Some examples of FAKE EMO are American Football, My Chemical Romance and Mineral
EMO BELONGS TO HARDCORE
NOT TO INDIE, POP PUNK, ALT ROCK OR ANY OTHER MAINSTREAM GENRE
CoC is amazing

emofags are absolute cancer, it's such an embarrassing term for a genre to begin with, there's absolutely no reason to Not Real Socialism over it.

even worse when it's straight up schlock like this youtube.com/watch?v=V5d8AVRtHTM or that embarassing 'PULL MY HEART-STRINGS' Saetia song, makes MCR seem like a serious band

whats not to like about native nod?

God, Native Nod conning everyone into thinking that they're the most important formative emo band makes me so fucking mad.

Native Nod are the reason why the noodly and ~deep~ emo exists.

i'm not shit talking them, just saying the entire genre is rooted in self-pity and "weak" shit. almost all of the REAL EMO bands have melodramatic 9th grade poetry spoken wordcore that would make The Used blush if you look hard enough.

This and Diary.

This is better

no, this is.

playoffs.bandcamp.com/album/demo

btw Moss Icon did noodly and deep emo before Native Nod formed

american football are the ones responsible

its the same album with EPs and demos tacked onto the end. the first tracks are the best anyways

i think y'all are just confusing melodic for noodly. Emo has always had melodic elements all the way back to the revolution summer bands. Noodly to me is math rock style guitar wanking like american football, algernon, make me, snowing, excessive shit like that. playing broken chords that build up into more chaotic loud parts isnt "noodly"

dude Moss Icon's Memorial 7" shares a direct link to AF. it's evident that songs like Moth would lead to the mellow emo sound as through the mid-90s math rock like Slint and Don Cab played the same venues as other punk bands, and the younger generation took from both.

midwest emo is directly tied to these sounds, it's not like they were just random indie bands that never listened to emo and then were magically lumped in by the press.

yea, and that makes it better

No question. I mean Memorial is probably the song that kicked the genre off in the first place. But Native Nod actually solidified it in my opinion and made it turn out like it did.

Dude, that Genre existed before american football put out that steaming pile of shit.

No, not really. As said, the earlier bands already did the sound, not 1:1 like AF or the like. But it already had been a part of the genre for years, shit didn't grow in a vacuum. And the american footballs and cap'ns and minerals out there certainly didn't come up like some people think.

i never said moss icon wasnt influential and i never said that later emo was unaware of earlier bands. and i know that slowcore/mathrock/postrock/emo all intermingled. what i was saying is in response to comment about native nod and noodly emo, as if a hardcore band being melodic is a bad thing

whatever just post some obscure emo shit

youtube.com/watch?v=Oku4erFYEzs

love the ebullition sound, first thing that comes to mind when i hear people talk "true emo"

potentially the first band to really take the screechy vocals to the next level, along with honeywell, who they did a split with. This release was also put out on the great american steak religion label - a gold mine for great emo. Put out releases by one eyed god prophecy and uranus whose sound orchid would later rip off. Members of Reach Out also played in great bands before and after like...

FE revival trash

salty

Your lecture on emo is fucking embarrassing. When certain styles have been called a certain genre for long enough, they become that genre. You can't argue that.

I mean, you called fucking Mineral specifically NOT EMO. Plus, your examples of emo fucking suck. Those bands just sound like generic rock. I hope you remember what I've said and avoid embarrassing yourself again in the future.

>falling for the pasta
you make me emo

Holy shit you guys are so pathetic. Most of this shit is emocore anyway, emo is an umbrella term so stop sperging out about "tru emohh".

Midwest Emo is to Emo what Post-punk is to punk. A perfect evolution of a genre, accomplishing growth, development and acclaim.

who originated the "innocent little kids" on emo/hardcore album covers?

Emo threads are so emo. All the dudes talking about "real emo" are almost 40 and waxing nostalgic over some bands that sound dated as fuck.

That music does not sound good, but you think it does because you never tried to listen to anything else

So apparently emo has the most unbearable fanbase

Violent Femmes

...

this

i have never seen a thread so full of pedantry and limp wristed genre obsession.

It is especially ironic given this music's emphasis on authenticity and emotional catharsis that some would spend their limited energy on playing gatekeeper to the illustrious club of "emo", a category that most would be mortified to be labeled as.

Are you the type of kid who didn't let your fellow students in to the video game club because they didn't know what Quake was? Do you like music, or only being in the position of liking music?

This is a sad board, I think.

...

lp2 is up there too

You'll never understand. Give it up, "emo" boy

youtube.com/watch?v=IW3EG_95usw

both great bands, prefer scout but couldnt find their side of split.

this is closer to prog than emo lol
still the best thing they ever did

idk who in this thread yall are specifically referencing but emo is just a genre I really like, I just enjoy the music, and their is A LOT of it. tons and tons of bands. this style of hardcore was the epitome of DIY for about 20 years. and its great genre for collectors too as most of these band's records can be found in bargain bins. I listen to tons of other genres too, this is just one i especially like.

Dumb talking point. Besides lmao @ your fucking stupid ass for thinking revival music brings anything new to the table.

It's not pedantry, it's actually discussion. Discussion that you never have in these threads because you everyone on here jerks it to 5 bands. And I'm not gonna go out here on a limb and say that Midwest doesn't belong to emo. What actually is maddening is that you always get these threads full of kids who just keep talking about 5 fucking bands. The irony is that you talk about gatekeeping while you guys are being gatekeepers yourself by just posting a select few bands. Each. And. Everytime. Over and over and over.

Truly hilarious A) thinking that plinky, shitty midwestern emo is a "perfect evolution of the genre". Might actually be the dumbest thing anybody's ever said on here. And B) "you never tried to listen to anything else" is especially precious considering you fucking idiots exclusively listen to the same 5 albums over and over again.

And besides "Midwest emo is to emo what post-punk is to punk" is just fucking false. Midwest is to emo what pop punk is to punk. No wait, actually midwest is just that: pop punk. But none of y'all motherfuckers actually around claiming that you listen to pop punk because you know it'll make you look like clowns.

love this and lp2. I only ever see people praising diary. I think that album, while good, is a bit overrated compared to the quality of their other albums

youtube.com/watch?v=unDFPd8LRg8&t=27s

evergreen had the one of the best and most unique sounds. This album desperately needs a reissue. They were completely ripped off by later band the pine, somewhat successfully
youtube.com/watch?v=5lXh4iXUALI

Jawbreaker is fucking pop punk with some emo undertones. And youre complaining about midwest fans...
