slightly off topic, but what do you guys think comprises an album cover? What about them, besides perhaps the 1:1 ratio and words, give sthem that unique feel that helps them to be identified as such.

Being only vaguely related to the music. Obviously this varies (especially in the case of the cover being a picture of the artist) but most of the time, the art is something you kind of have to handle abstractly. Sort of makes you think about the album and how it relates to the art.

I agree, this is why I'm so interested by album covers. A lot of them are able to capture the overall tone and themes of the album. Even something as simple as the cover of Low is able to capture some of the album.
