Hey Sup Forums

I have been recently thinking about getting a motorcycle

Would you recommend it and if so what kind of bikes would you recommend a beginning rider?

be sure to wear a helmet

...

suzuki DR-200

Shut up andrew

Depends on where you live. If you commute ninja 650. If just city drz400sm.

>Would you recommend it
yes
>what kind of bikes would you recommend a beginning rider?
the largest bike for the use you can afford
because you can always use less power than the bike has
but you can't use more power than the bike has

for beginners, recommend a standard (naked) bike. something with less aggressive acceleration and a stable feel.

Ducati 797 is perfect for beginners, if you have the money. If not, look at similar bikes.

sportbikes are fun, but they can be squirly in emergency braking -- experience needed.

...

A lower cc bike would be better instead of a higher one, anything from 200-500 cc is perfect for beginners, idk which bikes are available in your country to really suggest some names

you need to mention where and (body) size.
theres a lot of factors going into your 1st bike.

1) you want it
2) you dont mind eating turf (cause you will)
3) see #2

i agree with 1/2 you post
>Ducati 797 is perfect for beginners
why you you tell someone to buy a 10k bike as their 1st bike?
>Ducati 797 is perfect for beginners
no where is this close to a beginner bike
>Ducati 797 is perfect for beginners
you just recommended a 'standard' bike. something less aggressive.
>experience needed
exactly

nigga..dont listen to this guy

If you’re looking for a sport bike you’re gonna want at least 1000cc’s or else you’ll get bored with it too fast. Also Craigslist and Facebook marketplace are great for finding used helmets. DOT helmet approval is just a stupid sticker they slap on, it doesn’t mean shit so don’t pay extra for it.

look up "watch people die" and search for anything motorcycle related
then decide

My first bike was a vt1100c2. Smooth, stable, and plenty of extra power. Get something that has the right stance for you and stool has power left to pass on the highway.

kawasaki ninja h2.

cc's
fucking edgelord here.

Honda 500 series is solid.
Naked - CB500F
Sport - CBR500R
Cruiser - Rebel 500

heres another faggot

"you'll get bored with something under 1000cc"
OP says he's THINKING of getting a motorcycle. so obviously doesn't even know how to clutch/shift a bike yet.
"get a 1000cc"
ive seen enough people die, get wounded, or just plain give up on biking because of dumb advice like this

fuck yeah bro
shadow ace 1100cc was my first bike

this guy gets it

500 is where you should start
i'd throw in a suzuki 600 bandit in the mix

>200-500 cc is perfect for beginners,

This.

Get anything near 1000cc and you're asking for trouble.

i started on a 750 v twin, best decision ever
got the hang of it in a year and can push it to the max now
its more fun to ride a slow bike fast, than a fast bike slow

I can already see the shit coming my way, but my first (also current) bike was just a Ninja 250. I love it. Maneuverable, quick enough, lightweight. Learning with it has been amazing so far

Also relatively cheap

>Ninja 250

This is about right for a beginner. The general rule is you start out by riding a dirt bike (off road) so you can get the hang of losing traction, etc.

Broke my back getting hit by a retard on a ninja. Dead for 4 minutes. Bought another. I bought the CB500F this time around because it's light and has a nice seating position. Would be a good starter bike.

nurses and doctors refer to a motorcycle license as an organ donor card. but I'm sure you'll be fine.

and if you dump it, no real loss.
unlike this nigga you'd kiss you 10k goodbye

flatliner? do you see kevin bacon in your day to day?

Can't beat the shadow line. I love my Saber. Tried to post a pic but the file size limit kinda fucked me.

No but Travolta twice a week

Was the retard on the ninja, or were you hit while on a ninja?

My heart stopped beating for a few minutes after a particularly long and violent seizure. not sure for how long, but the witnesses said I turned blue enough for them to assume I was dead.
My memory has been absolute shit since then (also it just took me five tries to spell memory correctly).

Any lingering side effects for you?

get a Ural
2WD bike with a side car
designed from the 1930s German mechanized infantry bike made by BMW then modified byt Union of Soviet Socialist "Fuck Everything That Isn't Strictly Utilitarian" Republics to be used in the Ural mountains, aka maintained roads that are some of the harshest off road terrain in the world

...

>you can always use less power than the bike has
True, but only for a particularly mature/self-disciplined person. Which IMO is not most people. If you don't think you are likely to control yourself (ALWAYS) then get something with less power.
One thing to consider tho, a more $ bike is more likely to have traction control, which can save you from some stupid moves.

797 isn't exactly sportbike powerful. Is it an excellent choice? Probably not for most people. But it isn't a stupid option either (like user said, so long as you have the cash for something like that).

bait should at least be funny.

then go do the same for driving a car. and walking on the street.

And when you get bored of it on the street you just convert it to a track bike.

Get a rebel 250 or something. You can pick them up at pretty good prices and they're comfy to ride and don't cost much to run.

Not the fastest bikes in the world but for a beginner they're nice and light so you can get used to handling them.

Best advice I can give to a new rider is learn counter steering. Turn the bars right and the bike will lean and steer left and vice versa. You can thank me later!

im just saying i would never recommend spending 10k on a 1st bike. even if it was a 250cc.
what if you dont even like riding?

>driving in a car and get clipped by another car: welp that sucks, now I gotta have some repair work done and drive a rental car for a week.
>riding a bike and get clipped by a car: welp I sure am glad all these doctors offices I go to have wheelchair ramps and lots of handicapped parking

Just do the MSF course first and see if you like riding. I know a few people who just said fuck that after the course.

Paralyzed optical nerve

I was on the ninja

Ayyyyyyy my man

i used to teach this. and i 2nd this poster's statement.

it also get you to bypass the license test in some states and gets you an insurance discount.

also looks well in court if shit goes down.

in that vein
if this is your absolute first bike, you haven't even riden a pedal bike or moped, then definitely buy a used bike
it will be much cheaper

According to the file info I made that pic 5.5 years ago and I'm pretty sure that's the first time I've ever posted it. I'm impressed that I remembered I had it, since I have such shitty memory.

Wtf is the story behind what is happening here

Ninja 250 or CBR 250 depending on price, availability, and all that. Always the answer for a beginner sport bike.

as he is breathing, the air is going where it's not supposed to. like, under the skin of his face. it's probably not good when that happens though it looks cool as fuck.

Rode bike through cloud of nerve gas

>guy bonces face off pavement
>breathing causes his skull to expand and contract

...

Inexperience. Nobody should get on the road until they have a year or so experience riding off road.

you're gonna dump your 1st bike. maybe only once, but you will dump it. not skidding out, not from laying down too far, but usually from not stopping properly at a stop sign.

learn and dump on something cheap.

granted there are people that buy a harley as their 1st bike. but they are sooooo ginger on the bike they never really learn to ride.

damn

i dont quite agree with this
80% of off road, you're standing up on the bike.

Anyone have sauce for this gnarly shit?

something low to the ground, not a dirtbike/ dual-sport. Trust me. begin on a low cc like 200 or 250 and work your way up to higher powered ones if you want. It takes practice to be a good rider.

Fucking squid. Short pants, probably flip-flops, and did he even have a helmet on?!?!?

Sauce?

...

isn't this the same old boring cannibal holocaust movie or whatever. movie blows.

So what? Getting a feel for a bike sliding around underneath you can save your life when you get on the street. I've had to lay bikes down at low speeds more than a few times on the street and got hit twice head-on. I credit my years in the dirt as giving me an edge on street survival.

dumb rider.
can't assume anything about another driver not he road.
loud pipes dont save lives. they just put your misplaced pride and judgment on someone else rather than yourself.

if you learned that way, then fine.
i would never as a MSI say "go buy a dirt bike and ride around for a bit then come back"
for a beginner, dirt isn't always an option.

>MSI

Not him...but does that pay well and is that your only job, or more like a secondary source of income?

i would also say you are in the minority for most street riders. not everyone grew up with a dirt bike around

this. my first was a Ninja 250. get one second hand because someone, like you someday, will want to move up. there are plenty of riders who have more than one bike and still fool around on their 250.

by all means stay away from the 1000cc bikes to begin with. also, taking a riding class will help. don't ride with idiots. slow speed drops are embarrassing but almost inevitable. high speed drops will hurt - a lot.

>for a beginner, dirt isn't always an option

How is that? Who doesn't have access to trails or vacant land? I grew up in a mid sized city and started out riding in a corner lot. There are acres and acres of railroad property that people ride on also.

its not my main job. its not even my 3rd job.
its a 2 month thing i do for a a couple grand a year, but still get to play with all the new bikes in the dealer and get the dealer discounts.
On top of i believe people who just walk in off the street and want to buy that gsx as a 1st bike, take my class. its free.
ive seen too many kids buy gsxers and flip it within 3 months

>most street riders

May be, but I guarantee you it's the former dirt riders who have higher survival rates on the street.

Take the MSF course or equivalant. See if you actually like riding before shelling out the money for a bike. The course will get you your liscence as well.

Inflatable mask for Hollywood movie

people in NYC for example

i will agree with this

NYC, like it even matters. Hahahaha.

I'm guessing you don't ride. It gets your attention, you are not looking at your phone, thinking about shit at work or anything else. you are in the moment and paying attention. also, you get to smell stuff - like someone cooking or doing laundry or flowers on the side of the road.

I, myself, ride a KTM 450 mxc I bought for $2800 off a guy on Craigslist who ended up not being able to do anything with it due to a knee problem. Supermoto/motocross is plenty reasonable.

lets not turn this into a faggot n vs s thing.

you do realize a lot of riders dont have access to dirt trails, and not where they are to learn?

im not discounting that you're off road experience helped you. it def did. but not everyone has access to that. (unfortunately)

most military bases now require their active duty to take a safety class before they're allowed to own a motorcycle. too many idiots, too many fatalities.

personally i think it should be required for anyone getting a license

Everyone taking a bike road test should be required to test on slippery and loose pavement, either way.

and i'l add the abolition of helmet laws is dumb.
ive been in a wreck were i would have lost my whole jaw if not for my full face.
states getting rid of helmet laws is insurance companies.
its cheaper to pay the 500$ twards a funeral than medical.

if you cant make a figure 8 in 3 parking spaces and come to stop without the bike leaning is another one.

I got my license while I was in the NG
could buy a bike w/o the safety course
but couldn't ride it on post until I had a copy of the safety course certification in my MPRJ
and bc I was NG, the state paid the tuition to take the safety course at any state college or university
would recommend (the safety course not the military) to everyone, even if they will never ride a bike
I noticed that it really bumped up my awareness of bikers when I'm in a car

(granted this is harder with a larger bike, but really easy on the 250's i teach with)

>states getting rid of helmet laws is insurance companies.
"You're free to do anything as long as I can make a buck off it."
that's the official US motto, right?

I really like ural except their top speed is like 60

...

Is there any money in teaching msf

how to do feel about bluetooth helmets?
most beginner will say "yeah, bluetooth so i can listen to my music"
ive got 30 years under my belt and i still won't get a bluetooth hemet. not for music, not for navigation.
i just dont need the distraction.

none. its just something that you want to do.
like i said in my previous post, it keeps me abreast with whats new out there and i can play with dealer stock and get dealer discounts.
it takes me about 8 hours a week for 8 weeks. usually the weekends where im at, but it depends on your location.

Comrade Commisioner of Soviet Roads says this road if perfectly maintained and 55mph is the ideal speed for hard working comrades

Not that user.
But man that sounds fucking retarded

was meant for
fucking shmirnoff.....

Honda vtx 1300 boiiii

>not for music, not for navigation
and pack communication
and even then a full face helmet over 70mph is impossible to hear the speakers

if they could keep up with trucks on the freeway at least I would definitely buy one
